Sadly that is wishful thinking look what PJ have on their front page.I imagine if it is indeed a cover version that will be the focus.

I presume it'll be a bit like Torn, Superstar, No Promises, Don't Call This Love etc. - media sources will mention it's a cover, but nobody will really care because they hadn't heard of it before.

Barely anybody will actually know it's a cover though, will they?

People are getting far too hooked up on it being a cover - it's not really going to damage him anymore than it damaged Shayne or Leon's chart performances (they released covers of European hits as their lead singles too) - even though Don't Call This Love relatively flopped, I'd say that was more down to Leon himself than it being a cover.

Been taken off YouTube :( Anyone have another link, or a download link they can PM me?

I do quite like Joe, and I love the original, so if he does it justice, then it is all round AMAZING. At least the song will become known in the UK...

Radio 1 just played it. But seriously, that's Joe? :o To me, it sounds exactly like the original, except a bit faster and perhaps some other changes in the music. I don't know whether I like it or not, because I can't believe that it's Joe's voice.

Who did the original of Don't Call This Love? :o

Anyway, listening to this it's... surprising. It doesn't really sound much like him. That's a good thing obviously :kink: The lyrics aren't really appropriate for an X Factor winner though are they? "Ambitions are already starting to fade" :/ Glad they're not changing the title to Somebody.

I have really high hopes for his album actually. This as the first single and I heard that Darin was writing for him. He's basically going to be our version of Ola/Mans/Darin/Eric etc...and god knows we need one. I didn't know he could sing in this high register but I'm really impressed actually. Hope it does well for him. At least the song gets to see the light of day in the UK, and it's almost identical to the original.

Why can't Westlife cover Scandi-pop songs instead of terrible old 80's ballads. They'd be a lot more appealing to me...

Oh WOW! Much better than I though :o

Who did the original of Don't Call This Love? :o

Stephanie Heinzmann...

I LOVE it!

For me, out of all the X Factor winners first singles, this one has been most instant. I have it on repeat. ^_^

its was lame on first listen :(

Im kind of in two minds about this- its good that hes picked an unknown song to cover, but it doesnt sound like him at all, his voice sounds totally different to that on The Climb

also at the end of the day, its a cover- he really should be focusing on original material but also, they sound SO similar and he didnt add anything to it in particular, I do actually prefer the original

I will give Joe's a few more listens- I think it will certainly do well though

I'm not too familiar with the original, but I like the song (well his version). It's not a popular enough cover to garner any negativity from people. The original will probably see a boost when he starts promoting it, as his version won't be avaliable.
The problem is Joe has an average voice at best. This is nothing special for the supposed x factor winner of last year. He will always be in the shadow of the likes of Leona and Will Young.
It's a shame it's a cover to be honest. I have nothing against covers personally, as many people here know, but a lot of people hate Joe, and the media will be likely to strongly emphasize this. It's going to be like how Leona covered Run. No matter how good the cover is, people just won't let go of it.

Except most people actually knew the original with Run...

It was still a #1 tho

Stephanie Heinzmann...

OMFG :o I never connected the two before. Thing is I love that song, and I never really listened to Leon's...

Perez just posted the original on his site.

Gutted with this. I really love Joe, but not this song.

Still, it could grow I suppose (and hope)

I think it's decent, I've heard the original beforehand but never really held it as something I loved (I had to remind myself today what it sounded like), this is very similar to the original and I can see it growing on me really. I'm glad this is the the type of material he's releasing to be honest - they very easily could have shoved him down the solo Westlife route.
So.. loads of people want to see Mika represent Eurovision for the UK. Well.. we have Joe McElderry's new single.

Incorrect. He's only writing the song, which we can expect to be better than last year's which ever way you cut it.

For me, this song is catchy as hell, and greatly exceeds by expectations. But it's annoying to see, once again, Syco push their alumni down a route that is already chock-full of more successful artists - it's like he won't let Joe, Olly, Leon, Alexandra et al be themselves for fear of not selling well. Instead he makes them into other artists that he thinks are about over.

Oh HELL TO THE NO. You DO NOT play around with Mika. He writes songs about sluts and calls them funny names so people think they're actually singing a little nursery rhyme-esque songs but actually you're being VERY RUDE, ITE?

Go Mika
