Posted September 29, 201014 yr The track-listing for the forthcoming greatest hits album, "Ultimate Pet Shop Boys" has now been finalised. It includes 25 years of hits from 1985's "West End girls" to 2009's "Love etc." and concludes with a new song, "Together", written and recorded this month. The full track-listing is: West End girls Suburbia It's a sin What have I done to deserve this? Always on my mind Heart Domino dancing Left to my own devices Being boring Where the streets have no name (I can't take my eyes off you) Go West Before Se a vida é (That's the way life is) New York City boy Home and dry Miracles ( :o ) I'm with stupid Love etc. Together The new song was written and produced with former Xenomania staff member Tim Powell and will also be released as a single. The release date will be announced shortly. "Ultimate Pet Shop Boys" will be released on November 1st. It was originally proposed by EMI to celebrate 25 years since the release of Pet Shop Boys' first hit, "West End girls". A special edition (full details in the earlier news story below) includes a DVD of Pet Shop Boys' performances on BBC TV and also their Glastonbury Festival performance from June this year. www.petshopboys.co.uk Personally, I love them to death but can live without this. Will buy the new single of course. I adore all these songs but very surprised 'Miracles' is there although it covers all their eras. Edited September 29, 201014 yr by SKOB

September 29, 201014 yr They could've left Se A Vida E out and replace it with Rent, Can You Forgive Her or Minimal. Not for me, that's one of my favourite ever songs - and surely one of the most airplayed songs of the 90's, or the year it came out at least? I can see why it was included definitely! Can You Forgive Her, I'll agree though, is sorely missed here.
September 29, 201014 yr Author Didn't know that.. Well in that case it's understandable On the other hand, Very is their only no. 1 album and only song from it is Go West, a cover. Weird.
September 29, 201014 yr This is pointless for me, PopArt is a far more comprehensive collection and I have all the albums that were released since then. Plus it missess off so many essentials.
September 29, 201014 yr Author Yea and especially if you have the Pandemonium Live cd/dvd this hasn't much to offer except the single and maybe the dvd Which reminds me, have to buy the PopArt video collection
September 29, 201014 yr So much wrong with this - Flamboyant should have been there instead of Miracles, Minimal or Integral should be there instead of I'm With Stupid. Do we really need this anyway?
September 29, 201014 yr Which reminds me, have to buy the PopArt video collection I got that last year. The commentary is great.
September 29, 201014 yr I do like the pet shop boys mainly their earlier catalogue but i have bought their 2 previous greatest hits set so i probably wont buy this, i hope it does well for them. Popart i really thought would have sold so much better than it did and i was surprised by its undeer performance, so im not so sure how this will do for them.
September 30, 201014 yr Author Top 40 if they're lucky I'm more interested in how the single does. Even their Christmas EP last year went Top 40 (just) so it's a challenge in climate where Scissor Sisters' second single off their album doesn't go Top 75 and Kylie barely scrapes Top 20.
September 30, 201014 yr Pet Shop Boys >>>>>> Kylie >> Scissor Sisters Anyway, their fanbase is still huge, and if the song is good, and they can get the traditional Radio 2 airplay, I think this could go top 20.

I'm sure PopArt has sold decently in the longrun, afterall it did re-enter last year after the Brits and get a new peak inside the top 20, as well as sure trickle sales over time.
October 3, 201014 yr Had no idea this was coming out but dear lord the tracklisting is terrible. :o West End girls Suburbia It's a sin What have I done to deserve this? Always on my mind Heart Domino dancing Left to my own devices Being boring ^^ All starts off fine and the first 9 tracks are definitely worthy of inclusion Where the streets have no name (I can't take my eyes off you) - what the heck, hardly a classic PSB hit, So Hard would better represent this era. Go West - I can see why it's being included as it's one of their biggest singles but to have nothing else from Very is just criminal. Before Se a vida é (That's the way life is) - Before flopped, Red Letter Day is a more sensible choice but would be too similar to Go West I guess. New York City boy - awful song. I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Any More is far better. Home and dry - Okay enough Miracles - odd choice, not sure we really need either of the PopArt new tracks tbh. I'm with stupid - awful and dated already. Minimal and Integral are miles better and among their best singles. Love etc. - Sound choice. Together - new track so fair enough. Revised and better (imo) tracklist would be: 01|West End Girls 02|Suburbia 03|It's A Sin 04|What Have I Done To Deserve This? 05|Rent 06|Always On My Mind 07|Heart 08|Domino Dancing 09|Left To My Own Devices 10|So Hard 11|Being Boring 12|Can You Forgive Her? 13|Go West 14|Se a Vida é (That's The Way Life Is) 15|I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Any More 16|Home And Dry 17|Minimal 18|Love Etc 19|Together
October 3, 201014 yr I think it's great too and I loved it at the time it was released. The trouble is that it's not as great as Can You Forgive Her? and wasn't anywhere near as successful as Go West so would never make a single disc edition of a best of.

Stupid record company decisions. I like 'Can You Forgive Her' but 'IWNDTKOT' is miles better, imo. :P Obviously individual tastes aren't reflected in the singles chart. Being the third (?) single off 'Very' chances are those who would've wanted to buy this song already had the album so didn't bother. I wonder how much better this song would've fared had it been released as the lead single in June 1993. ^_^
October 3, 201014 yr At the time of release IWNDTKOT was my absolute favourite track on Very so it could well have made a great lead single, as you say, who knows how well it could have done. Since then CYFH? has grown on me incredibly though and is now one of my favourites of theirs from any era. Lyrically it's just amazing and I don't think I ever really understood them at the time, they raise it above IWNDTKOT for me but it doesn't detract from the latter being a great pure pop track.
October 3, 201014 yr 'I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind Of Thing' is underrated. :( Agreed. They don't include it in their live shows either :( I've loved the Pet Shop Boys since I first heard West End Girls (25 years ago :o ) and they still sound great. I also have them - and Annie Lennox in her Tourists days - for convincing me that Dusty Springfield wasn't some boring singer for old people.
