Im really loving the flood, th emore i hear it the more epic its sounding, i think this could end up been in my list of favourite take that songs/singles.

I just think its ok now. I don't think its as great as everyone is saying it is ... but its ok. My husband heard it for the first time today and said he thought it sounded suspiciously like something else ... which I have to agree with.

I don't think it'll get to number 1 though ... even though the album will.

No track listing news yet but apparantly there is going to be 2 phyisical versions released, one the normal cd single and the other a dvd single,im sure the die hard fans will buy both versions, take that are usually strong physical sellers and going by shame the physicals for the flood will be strong aswell which will boost sales and its chart peak.

Take That: 'The Flood'

Released on Monday, November 8 2010

By Nick Levine, Music Editor

A couple of albums that have earned fifteen platinum awards between them, tours that sell out quicker than half-price protein shakes on Venice Beach and a warm 'n' fuzzy popularity so all-encompassing that even cosy old Marks & Sparks have sucked it up. Take That's comeback has been so overwhelmingly successful that, whisper it, it was all in danger of becoming a bit predictable.

Re-enter Robbie Williams, a man essentially allergic to being predictable, alongside Stuart Price, the synth-poppy knob-twiddler who's worked wonders with Kylie and the Scissors this year already. This amuse bouche for the reunited five-piece's upcoming Progress platter initially seems confusing, perhaps even messy, but after four or five plays it reveals itself to be a genuinely epic pop belter, a winning mix of Williams wonkiness - those lyrics are pretty cryptic, right? - and Barlow's knack for cranking out choruses that make even Wembley Stadium feel cramped. Oh, and hats off to the boys for being ballsy enough to name what is potentially the biggest single of their career 'The Flood' when there's a joke about sticky old mops knocking about in Gaz's attic just begging to be cracked.

OOH I've only just heard this for the first time this morning. It's really VERY GOOD. The moment when that first chorus comes rushing in IS a moment indeed.

The only thing I'm not feeling is that they've caved into the inevitable and given Blobby the lion's share of the solo spots, even though he's only the 3rd best singer in the group at best.

What are the chances for The Flood going to number 1 on Sunday?

I'm not too sure. I think it could be peaking on iTunes too soon ... it may trail off towards the end of the week. Popularity bars would help but nobody seems to ask for them anymore.

Physicals will be very strong and I can imagine if it were just on physicals they'd be number one for a month. But physicals only make up a tiny fraction of the chart. I think they should base the chart on £ revenue ... not on numbers of sales.

Kath

It's already #4 on Itunes so I would think it is pretty much a given. Although it may trail off during the week, especially considering there is no promotion lined up until next Sunday which will only benefit sales for next week. Very odd decision to do the first live performance a week after the single is released.

The truly brilliant Neil McCormick has given a good review to The Flood. I am really liking the sound of this album. :o

Take That: The Flood, review

Neil McCormick reviews The Flood, the first single from the reunited Take That.

The Telegraph

7th November 2010

The first single to reunite Take That with Robbie Williams, The Flood is a stirring us-against-the-world pop anthem that blends the best of Williams’ rabble rousing instincts with Gary Barlow’s smooth songwriting.

The reunited five piece metaphorically wave their fists in the air as the harmonise over a battle cry of “There was more of them than us / Now they’ll never dance again.”

Fans be warned though, this is, by some distance, the sanest and most commercial moment on their new album, Progress, an utterly bonkers electroglam techno stomping apocalyptic sci fi epic. And that’s something I never thought I would say about Britian’s best loved boy band.

I think the phyisical will possibly add around 12,000 extra sales or or if it goes well it could be more as there is 2 versions available, im really hoping this goes to number 1 and more importantly i hope overall it ends up with great sales.
Well there's a first. Neil McCormick saying something good about Take That, although I'm sure if the album was exactly the same, and Rob wasn't with them ... he'd be giving it his usual 1 out of 10 stars.
Yes very true and alot of that sort of thing will happen when the reviews of the album start coming out, it will work both ways as im sure so reviwers who disliked robbie will write in favour this time, if anything it just shows how fickle people really are.
Truly, hand on heart ... The Flood is NOT as great as everyone is making it out to be. Sure, its a vast improvement on Greatest Day but it isn't half as good a song as RTW. I think everyone has got too wrapped up in the Robbie return and is making this out to be an 'emperor's new clothes' thing. Even I thought it would be fabulous with his return (even though I don't like him - I do appreciate he's had a lot of hits) ... but it sounds no different than a lot of Take That or Robbie William's songs of the past. It's OK but it isn't fabulous ... and (although I believe it will certainly make number 1) it wouldn't be tragedy if it didn't. Either way ... it won't hang around on the chart for nearly as long as RTW ... and quite rightly so.

Well, in my opinion "The flood" is amazing, and I'm not a TT fan and I'm annoyed by the whole "GREATEST POP REUNION OF ALL TIME" business.

But the song is clearly up there with "Rule the world", and probably better than "Patience".

The flood is ok but all take that songs sound the same to me. Not melody wise obviously but they are so predictable and not very original. It will still be no1 this week though i imagine.

It's a matter of taste I suppose. The Flood to me is no more amazing than a nice cup of tea is. Patience is a nice Cava whilst Rule The World is a gorgeous pink champagne.

It's up there with Rule The World and Shine for me as the third best song since their comeback. Considering those two both rank amongst my top 15 songs of all time, I'd say that this is a good achievement! Definitely one of my favourite songs of 2010 anyway!

I recieved my CD & DVD singles today and I've had the song pretty much on repeat all day. It's a shame there's no b-side though, this is the first single to not have one since their return :(

I have to say I am gobsmacked 'The Flood' has not shot to #1. Rihanna is still ahead despite already being out for two weeks. It was #2 on it's first week and #1 last week - total sales already exceed 260K so it really is shocking. I know there has been no promo so far but it is the most played song on British radio so that should easily be enough to ensure it tops the chart. Next week I expect sales will be a lot better on the back of the XF performance, however JLS also have a slot and their single is for CIN so really TT's only opportunity to get to #1 is this week. A lot of people will just buy the album on after the XF performance anyway.

I think they will probably get to #1 by Sunday but it won't be by a huge margin which I have to admit I am quite shocked at as the song is very commercial. Will it sell over 100K first week? One thing is for sure, if it sells less than 'Shame's 72K opening sales it will be a disaster considering how much better a song 'The Flood' is. -_-

Not all Rob's solo singles have had B sides though have they?

BTW ... how much is the physical CD for The Flood?

Kath

Gotta be honest though ... I've only liked two B sides of Take That since the return 'Beautiful Morning' and 'We All Fall Down' ... I think all the others have been pretty poor and wouldn't have been especially missed.
