I think they will probably get to #1 by Sunday but it won't be by a huge margin which I have to admit I am quite shocked at as the song is very commercial. Will it sell over 100K first week? One thing is for sure, if it sells less than 'Shame's 72K opening sales it will be a disaster considering how much better a song 'The Flood' is. -_-

Oh it'll sell well over Shame's opening week sales ... there's no fear of that! Remember as well as X-Factor ... they also have the TV special 'Look Back Don't Stare At Our Bottoms' ... which should see a last minute surge in the closing hours of Saturday night.

Not all Rob's solo singles have had B sides though have they?

BTW ... how much is the physical CD for The Flood?

Kath

Gotta be honest though ... I've only liked two B sides of Take That since the return 'Beautiful Morning' and 'We All Fall Down' ... I think all the others have been pretty poor and wouldn't have been especially missed.

CD is £1.99 and DVD is £2.99, I bought the former as I got the video on iTunes yesterday.

I quite like most of their b-sides but We All Fall Down is by far the best  I really liked Beautiful Morning (which oddly sounded Corrs-like melody and production wise!) and Trouble With Me too. Considering the class of its a-side, and the fact that I usually love the songs with Mark lead vocals, Stay Together was absolutely tragic.

I guess nobody makes b-sides anymore. But then nobody's buying singles so it makes sense because nobody will hear them anyway. Might as well save the leftovers for iTunes bonus tracks and future rarities collections where they'll get more attention.

Stay Together, 84 and Sleepwalking were equally as bad as each other. No ... I take it back .... 84 was one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

 The tune was bad enough but the lyrics were woeful '84 was a pretty good year'! Imagine if in some parallel world this had been a single and was being hammered by commercial radio on the hour every hour, I think I'd have to leave the country. Stay Together was hideous though, it sounded like a slowed down take on Terry Venables' football song England Crazy - as you can imagine, this is not a compliment  Horrible song. I wonder if it's any coincidence that Mark gets to sing lead on nearly all of the b-sides? Maybe it's his job to write them!?!

I think as We All Fall Down was so good (I can't remember ... was it the b side to IWFL - in which case it was FAR superior to the a side) 'ickle Mark can be forgiven. Somewhat!

Have you got a ticket yet? I'm starting to regret letting a chance to go (the girl who got them via Irish Ticketmaster ... and onlly wanted face value) go now!

Oh I completely agree. I've more than once mentioned in this forum that that particular release was backwards. On one hand, I feel like I'd Wait For Life was a boring Gary solo vehicle and deserved to do badly, but then on the other hand it meant that hardly anyone got to hear We All Fall Down, which was massively superior. I know they gave it a fresh lick of paint in the studio and put it on the Beautiful World re-release though so I guess it got into the public domain properly in the end, it wasn't that much different to the b-side version.

Nope, still haven't :( I keep checking See Tickets but all they ever have is coach travel or messages saying 'not available at this time' or something similar. The absolute maximum I'll pay is £70-75 because I only want standing. So if I don't find one for that then I'm not going.

Maybe if they miss number one spot this time, they will learn a lesson or two at last. They really should work their arses off and FIGHT for their positions.Rule The World was under-promoted and as a result performed very poorly outside the Uk whereas it could have been a HUGE worldwide hit for them. But no.. they were too lazy to promote it properly for whatever reasons.. I think The Flood will suffer the same fate.It could be huge, but it wouldn't.

It would serve them right if it didn't get to number 1 then ... for their complacency in believing that anything they do can turn to gold ... especially now that they're the 'full monty'.

It'll still get to number 1 though so I don't know why everyone's so up a gum tree about it.

BTW ... what has happened to the iTunes thread in the main forum? It's gone completely. I know there was a bit of an altercation there a while ago so Mikey closed it ... but its actually gone now!

Ooooohhhhh!

Kath

I like both songs - however it is amusing that the Robbie/ TT comback has been hyped to the max only for them to first stall with Shame... and now with the Flood.

Maybe the inclusion of Robbie is putting people off rather than helping to sell it.

Will be interesting to see what happens next week

If Take That don't get to #1, I can officially say that it's the curse of Robbie Williams :D
Let's be honest, 'Only Girl In The World' is FAR better than 'The Flood' :(

Going by itunes it seems Rihanna has a hefty lead over take that, i know take that will gain on phyisicals but i think they will be very lucky IF they do manage number 1, that said i dont think take that will be overly bothered as the sales will be very good and with an x factor performance on sunday that will boost sales again the following week. I think the album is what is important to them and as i said before since they returned they are now more of an albums act than a singles act.

On saying that i still want the flood to make it to number 1.

I like only girl in the world but i dont think its all that great either and im surprised it has sold so well even up til now, the flood isnt take thats or robbie;s best single but for me its far better than only girl in the world.

OT, a more credible reason is that The Flood just ins't up to their normal standards.

Its all very well saying they won't be overly bothered but it is a bit of a disappointment when the lead singles from BW and TC went to number 1.

I wonder what's changed?

Kath

*I have to admit ... the Rihanna song is good - I think its miles better than her bloody umbrella!

I'd say they'd be bothered. Rihanna's on her 3rd week of release and they'll be disappointed that they pulled forward to avoid JLS meet demand and still can't get to #1 with their big Robbie comeback. That said, it has an outside shot of topping Rule The World's first week sales and will certainly top all of the opening sales of their other singles since their comeback - but then sales have gone up as a whole anyway.

I still think the album will be huge and most people will be waiting for that, which is only a week away, so probably don't see the need to buy the single. Rule The World on the other hand was a standalone single release - sure it was added to the deluxe edition of Beautiful World, but I don't expect many people rushed out to buy that just for 3 new songs, two of which were b-sides.

Let's be honest, 'Only Girl In The World' is FAR better than 'The Flood' :(

FAR inferior imo.

Only Girl (In The World) is so catchy that finally grew on me but it's so generic compared to what Rihanna can usually be trusted to come back with. The genius sampling of SOS, the anthemic Umbrella or the moody and atmospheric Russian Roulette. This is Stargate, Guetta influenced dance by numbers, made more powerful only because of Rihanna's stellar vocals. I guess it's captured the public mood right now hence the huge sales but it's certainly nothing revolutionary music-wise.

Give me The Flood any day! I've made my feelings known on it already, one of my favourite songs of the year. The build up, the strings, Howard's anthemic chorus chanting, Rob's verses, Gary's bridges - perfect  All down to personal taste though of course!

Their fans are clearly just waiting for the CD (album).

A lot of us actually are. The reviews of the album have been fantastic and its possible there is a number one single in there ... it just may not be The Flood.

I honestly think the problem is it just isn't as great a song as the media was / is hyping it up to be. And certainly not good enough to let it loose on its first week without any visual promotion - a rather arrogant move on the part of Take That in my opinion. But there is still time ... for all we know they could have sold 50K physicals!

And for all its opening week sales being better than it ... I doubt The Flood will still be in the iTunes top 200 three years after its release as RTW is. I'm actually very glad about that.

True. Rule The World is in a class of its own though. Career defining moment, incredible song, it's just a shame that it was really only a hit in the UK. The two German guys I live with are well aware of TT and know Patience and Shine, but had never heard of Rule The World when I played it to them!
