It's different. I can't compare it to RTW or Patience because this song is a major departure from what they've done previously.I've never heard anything quite like this before. What is it? Techno-rock?They have created something absolutely new as far as sound goes..

Outstanding! I am glad it's getting rave reviews from both TT and Robbie fanbases. It will be absolutely massive. They just need some good promo and it will easily outsell ''Rule The World'' (their biggest seller since reunion).

Tremendous song!!! Well done, Take That.

Ive just managed to get time to hear it today and i love it and its a very very strong single and bodes very well for whatto expect from the new album, i cant wait to hear progress now on the back of this. This re union so far is all good for me, i love shame and i love the flood and as i have always said the reunion for me was nothing about the guys themselves its about the music, if the music is good i will buy it and so far its brilliant and i have no hesitation spending money on buying the music.
Take That single with Robbie Williams gets good reception

Ever since, Twitter, Facebook and online fansites have been deluged with listeners hailing it as the boys' best song ever.

But the fans aren't going to say anything else are they? The same fans hailed I'd Wait For Life as a classic ... I rest my case!

DeNiro said it reminded him of something else ... and it did me too ... someone pointed out the chorus to Little Boots' Remedy ... just had a closer listen .... and it is quite similar. I don't think they've created something terribly new at all ... but as a single ... it is OK.

I don't think it is amazing like lots are fans are making out on both forums but it is much better than I expected it to be and I think while it may somewhat overproduced in parts, it does have that big epic feel that Shame sorely lacked. But I do agree. I also prefer 'Heart & I' too. The HQ version is fantastic.

It is annoying me though - it reminds me of something else, possibly various songs but I can't think of what they are. <_<

I really like the flood and it sounds very promising for what the album will deliver. For me its not as good as rule the world as for me i dont think take that will ever beat it as i adore the song. The flood is different and not what i was expecting from them but its a song i really like.

The whole re union thing for was always about the music, personnely i dont care what goes behoind the scenes or who makes the most money etc. For me any artist is about the music and if i enjoy the music i am quiet happy to spend my hard earned money on the albums. I love everything music wise that i have heard since robbie rejoined take that including shame so i am very looking forward to hearing the progress album.

I wouldnt say they have created something new as in brand new sound never heard before, but from a take that perspective they have created a new sound for them. Whats good about that is it doesnt represent what robbie or take that have done in the past which shows they have kind of found a middle that no one can say oh thats a robbie sound or a gary barlow sound. When creating the music im sure that was partly in their mind that they needed a balance that people wouldnt be able to say this is a gary or robbie song with four backing singers so they have accomplished that change in my mind.

Im sure in some ways making and creating the progress album added a some deal of pressure to keep fans from both sides happy and what better way to do it than go in a direction that no really expected. Im confident progress wont disapoint so once again its highly likely i will be quiet looking forward to spending €10 of my hard earned cash on another take that album.

I am trying to like it, maybe the video will help  but tbh if I have to wait for a vodeo to make me like a song then it ain't happenin

Maybe I will like the next one :nocheer: maybe Robbie at the back is a better idea after all

I like it, did on first listen

 does that make me a TT fan :P

Jups is trying to start a militant group on here Sparkle so I am not sure as a newly fledged TT fan how you will fit into her plans as we had taken it for granted that you one be one of the leaders so to speak <_<

maybe a backlash will ensue

 Steady on, I only said i liked the song

Jups might not view it like that, she is a very harsh judge :o

Wow !! just seen Robbie's album on the tv ads....lovely videos with Robbie on a horse <_<

Now that I've had time to calm down ... I think my initial good feeling about The Flood was actually just blessed relief that it is better than Shame. It is OK ... but I don't think it warrants the eulogies being bestowed upon it. Some people (not on this forum) are saying its the best single since Shine! WTF? Patience, Rule The World anyone? The Flood doesn't come close.

That was me Kath! I totally stand by it. Obviously as Patience came before Shine I am not including it but I genuinely prefer The Flood to Rule the World. I do like RTW but it has never been my favourite TT song. Different people have different tastes and I happen to think that The Flood is a great song.

I agree with you there. I'm not a RW fan at all and I would have preferred that they stay as a four piece but as I said before if I like the music I will buy it too. I thought Shame was OK. A nice enough song but I didn't like it enough to buy it and I'm not really fussed how it does tomorrow. I will definately be downloading The Flood though and am looking forward to hearing more from Progress now. I'm intrigued.

I agree about the flood been a great song and from first few listens i would rank it among one of their best singles, although certainly not as good as the classics never forget and rule the world. Again only time will tell, i always say if a song sounds good and you still love it 12 months after its release its a good one, so im not sure what i will think of the flood at that stage so i cant say if it will be a classic or not. For now, im delighted with the lead single and i hope it does very very well for them.

Yes it definately is one of their best. Never Forget will always be my favourite but it's definetaly up there with Patience and Shine (for me anyway). It's just one of those songs that I loved instantly and that doesn't happen very often for me. It certainly didn't happen with any of the singles on TC. I liked them but that was as far as it went. When I heard that JLS were realeasing a single and album on the same day as TT I assumed that they would get the single no. 1 and TT the album no. 1 but now I'm not so sure (especially now that I have heard the JLS one - although they are big single sellers so you never know)!

JLS may have the advnatage when it comes to the single with it been the children in need single, but shame hasnt been percieved as stronglt as the flood plus it isnt a take that record and its selling quiet well so there is a chance it could beat jls as i think the flood may sell better than shame.

In the albums i believe there is no contest and take that will run away with the number 1 even if susan boyle and jls are out the same week.

The flood is very instant i agree with you on that alfie1 and its alot more instant than greatest day for example. Sometimes i have different tastes to other take that fans for example i think back for good is one of their worst singles, i love patience but prefer shine so maybe loving the flood will make it an opposite in some cases aswell.

A few listens in and I really really like it - so much better than Greatest Day and all of The Circus singles. Rule The World and Shine are literally two of my favourite songs of all time though so I doubt it will get to that stage.
Ya it wont get to that stage either or up all night which i also adore and is by far the best single of the circus.
:o  Just noticed that the chorus of the Flood is almost identical to the chorus of an old Greek boyband song (which is definitely a rip-off sb else that I don't know :P  )
