One of my all-time favourite songs and one of Girls Aloud's only classic singles doesn't even finish in the top fifteen, despite being one of their most iconic singles and their second most successful. It also marked the point in which they became a women band, instead of a girl band; with the sassy video and strong vocals from all Girls, aswell as the retro theme that went with the 'Out of Control' album. The song spent a single week at the top of the UK charts, two years ago, around this time; becoming the fastest-selling single of 2008 at the time. The two performances of it on the Out of Control Tour were absolutely amazing (again, in my opinion) and I'm so glad I made the decision to see them live! Unfortunately, due to backlash against this song for it being overrated (I, personally, think it's incredibly underrrated! - I mean, 16th!?); which I never actually saw, as I loved it from the very first play on Radio 1!

Well I was definatly expecting 'The Promise' to finish relatively low down the list but I thought it would at least beat the likes of Cant Speak French/Life Got Cold/Whole Lotta History. It's not one of their best by any means, and as nice as it was that they finally got another #1 that wasnt a charity record/$h!t it was somewhat bittersweet considering how numerous other GA records that were much better had failed to do so.
October 27, 201014 yr What the actual hell at The Promise 16th :mellow: it was the song that transformed them from huge into iconic imo. Amazing pop song, by far my favourite of theirs. I can't call it underrated, because of the massive success it had, but I'll never get the mass hate towards it.

I really got into them during the release of CSF, but I do agree that it's not as amazing as I once thought it was. :P And I think they've got far better singles too.

Really wasn't expecting 'The Promise' to do as badly as this, but I ain't going to moan' it'd be in roughly the same position as i'd put it if I were to count down GA songs. I don't particularly "hate" it, I just think it's horrifically over played and overrated. They have far superior, which have all finished above it, so no complaints from me. Also, bar the video, 'Long Hot Summer' is bland too. Everything about that release was wrong.

November 10, 201014 yr These results are absoluetly perfect so far. When GA do covers, they truely are awful, and out of all there original singles the only one I can't stand is The Promise (horrifically over-rated) so these results are very suitable. Hopefully The Show and S!NNN get the praise they deserve :wub:
November 10, 201014 yr Surprised that Jmh123 hasn't been in here to complain about the slowness of the results yet. He seems to be a GA/Cheryl fan :o 'The Promise' is rubbish, I don't see how some people like it so much. I don't find it that catchy, and the chorus is just terrible.
