Look I do think if this does happen (unlikely, but hey) it will be funny as the radios will be in a state, but thats it- I dont want this getting christmas number 1, as its a bit pointless aside from the fact its mildly amusing- and the campaigns are getting as bad as the XF singles now- they are clogging up the charts and their not charting on their own merits

 

the Pogues would be deserved, as its been ten years since Kirsty Maccolls death and this would be a good tribute to her, plus its an amazing christmas song which has never got there before

I'll probably hate whatever The X Factor brings out ... I think the only really decent winners single from a Reality Show was probably Girls Aloud 'Sound Of The Underground'. (Well Emma's Imagination too if you count that). I think Simon needs to realise he needs to try something different from whatever 'inspiring' christmas karaoke cover they're going to churn out this year.

 

Saying that, people buying into complete silence makes no sense and is a waste of money. I understood the Rage one fully last year, but this seems completely pointless to me and a bit retarded, I kind of get 'lolz silence is better than X Factor', but really it just makes the people buying into that look as braindead as the people buying into the X Factor. I'd rather just have a decent original song to be Xmas #01, not a song of silence or a cheap karaoke cover. :/

I think the campaign is a load of crap regardless of it's intentions. This is primarily as the 'song' is a load of $h!te, it's completely pretentious and talent free but yet is masquerading as some form of art and social comment. I don't think anyone should ever be encouraged to spend money on something like silence (or background noise or whatever).

i'm sorry if you find that rude (and wasnt aimed at your post btw) but every time i come on any thread in chart chat it appears the majority of people are devoid of actual discussion and say the same things over and over like "it should be a campaign for a christmas song" when they clearly dont get the point of the campaign no matter how many times it must be repeated to people before them what the actual point is, its not like this thread is 50 pages long.

 

Anyway as for your opinion, 'talent free', maybe this ONE piece of music, and I think you don't understand much about John Cage if you refer to his work as 'talent free', infact I did Music GCSE and we spent a lot of time studying his music and just how important he is, as for people shouldnt be encouraged to buy silence, its not like it costs alot is it, i'd pay more than 79p for the hilarity of silence being at number 1 of the charts, you may not think its worth paying 79p just for amusement, I however do think so.

I'm doing my own Pogues campaign on the 25th October 2010 but I'm not doing it now as it's too early :P

 

good luck with that, im not against the idea but this campaign already has like 34,000 people and you have to start from scratch, not really too early seeing as the x factor winner would have had a longer advertising campaign (as in being on tv every week for longer).

seriously though I think Fairytale Of New York should be the one to use this year, such a great Christmas song that really deserved to be No1. The problem that will go against this is that it will almost certainly be in the chart before Christmas with people downloading songs like this and Mariah Carey in the weeks before the big day as any sort of campaign would probably only work against the XF in the week of the XF physical CD/download release
