Does anyone have the first week sales figures for the X Factor Winners: I'm interested in comparing. I'm talking first proper single, rather than winner's singles.

Joe McElderry "Ambitions": 43,034

Alexandra Burke "Bad Boys": ?

Leon Jackson "Don't Call This Love: ?

Leona Lewis "Bleeding Love": ?

Would also be interested in the first week sales of:

Diana Vickers "Once": ?

Olly Murs "Please Don't Let Me Go": ?

Shayne Ward "No Promises": ?

JLS "Beat Again": ?

Thanks anyone who can help!

Olly Murs "Please Don't Let Me Go": 93.239

And Shayne's first proper single was No Promises, not No You Hang Up.

Only other big single from X Factor I can think of (Aside from winner's songs) is Chico - It's Chico Time. Has anyone got the figures for that?

Also:-

Leona Happy 85,552

Olly sold well over twice the amount of Joe? Oh dear.

And Alexandra over 4 times as many (in a lesser sales climate) and Leona over 5 times as many (in an even lesser sales climate).

I think Leon would have had more sales than Joe in this current climate
I think Leon would have had more sales than Joe in this current climate

Spot on:-

Leon sold 32,404 copies of his single

Joe sold 43,034 copies of his single.

Given sales were lower 2 years ago than where they are now, you need to scale them appropriately for any analysis of them to be meaningful.

Single sales in 2010 are on average 23% higher than they were in 2008. However, at the top end of the chart, they are a massive 66% higher.

Joe sold 33% more than Leon, but when Leon's sales are scaled to reflect the different sales periods, Leon probably sold c. 48k copies (approx 50% uplift), which is 5-6k copies, or 13% more, than Joe.

Also need to take into account the huge increase in ratings of the show over the past two years as well. Last night saw over 15 million viewers, more than the 2008 final!

It would be pretty embarrassing if Matt sold less than this.

Even more so given single sales are some 20% higher this year than they were a year ago, therefore Matt equivalent target is 51.6k (43.0k+20%).

Anyone know roughly what his sales will be this week?

'Letters' will probably outsell 'Wide Awake' in a couple of weeks max though which will more than make up for it. (I don't think RFYL's sales will be THAT far off 43k anyway - last week's #5 sold 41k so Matt should be heading for around that, maybe a few thousand less).

The big % increase in sales is only really applicable to the lower reaches of the charts, sales in the top 10 have probably barely changed from last year...

Vidcapper might be able to answer this better, but my understanding is that sales at the top end of the chart have actually increased more than the %'s quoted in the MW reports (i.e. total sales per week in 2011 vs. total sales from equivalent week in 2010), not the converse.
