It looks like the use of goal line technology has moved one step closer. The International FA Board has agreed to reopen discussions with the proviso that nay technology used must send a signal to the referee almost immediately.

I agree with them. The matter of whether the whole of the ball crossed the whole of the line between the posts and under the bar is a matter of fact without any room for opinion. It ought to be possible to devise a way of establishing this instantly rather than with the use of replays. I'm still not entirely happy with the idea of different rules at different levels of the game but I accept that it's bound to happen.

It will never happen I'm afraid. It should do though.

Oh please! NO! The great thing about football is that its the same game no matter where it is. If this happens then kids playing in the park could say "oh we can't football we don't have goal line technology" for example.

Plus the best thing about being a football fan is the DEBATES you have about something being a goal or not and did the referee get this or that right etc.

Sometimes Nicky makes me want to punch a wall.

I really don't get the "it takes the fun out of football" argument... plenty of other sports, even Rugby, usse it and they're no worse off! Off the top of my head I'm fairly sure Germany 2-2 England at HT would have been a lot more interesting than a deflated England second half.

Is this really ever going to happen? You don't get people refusing to play tennis because they don't have HawkEye, for example.

I don't buy the debate argument either. Surely fairness is better than a ridiculously tired debate of 'I THINK THE BALL LANDED ON THIS SIDE OF THE LINE' 'I DISAGREE' etc.?
