The gap could still be bigger, even if Rihanna closes in. Like if, on day 1, Cheryl sold 60,000, and Rihanna sold 20,000 (so Cheryl would be outselling Rihanna 3:1). And then it turned out Cheryl was more frontloaded, and on day 2, she only outsold Rihanna 2:1 (Cheryl sold 30,000, and Rihanna sold 15,000).

In that scenaraio, after day 1, Cheryl sells 60,000 total, and Rihanna 20,000, so the difference is 40,000.

Then, after day 2, Chery has sold a total of 90,000, and Rihanna has sold 35,000. The difference is now 55,000, so whilst Rihanna has gained on Cheryl, the difference is still bigger.

NOTE: This is just an example. I am aware this is not how it really is in this situation.

That said, seeing the figures in the mid-week thread, and seeing the pop-bars, I think the gap could indeed close.

Well you're clearly going to say I'm wrong even if there's 50k gap between them, so I don't care.

Yes, this was the general gist of what I was saying presented in a clearer way.

As long as Cheryl is outselling Rihanna, the gap is getting bigger. Cheryl will still be outselling Rihanna for at least a few more days this week.

Well, it clearly wont be a 50K gap but okay.

So you are saying 'few more days' but said i was wrong when i said its going to be so much closer by the end of the week, any logic behind that at all? :???:

Yes everyday Rihanna is catching up but Cheryl Cole has a big lead and will sell 135k at the end of the week, with Rihanna selling 115k.
Mikey are you going to ask bray or daniel if they are 'mystic meg' now then? -_-

I think sales might be higher than that. :o Bruno Mars sold 116k last week so it's difficult to judge how much his sales have dropped this week. Say 'Just The Way You Are' sells another 70k this week, Rihanna is double Bruno Mars on pop bars so would be looking at 140k. If you then half that gap that's how far ahead Cheryl is from Rihanna. So 'Promise This' could be looking at 180k this week (ie; 70k divided by 2 = 35k + 140k = 175k plus 5k made up from remixes/physicals? )

Whatever the end result, I reckon the top 2 will have fantastic sales and also reckon Bruno Mars may still be selling relatively well in his sixth week.

Well seeing as the gap gets smaller and smaller everyday, it is a logical assumption to make

You're only looking at those two tracks though. The 'Promise This' EP is at #11 on the iTunes Album Chart, giving it extra sales, there are 4 versions of 'Promise This' charting in the iTunes Top 1000 (#1, #169, #272 and #490 at the moment), as opposed to the one version of 'Only Girl (In the World)' that is charting (#2) as well as physicals for the both of the singles.

i have been checking all day rihanna hasn't gained much on cheryl at all

We're now 72 hours after its initial release, so without new promotion, 'Only girl' is probably going to stall now.

And 48 hours after Cheryl's performance, the X Factor effect is now pretty much done, 'Promise this' shouldn't drop fast now.

Yes they are both stabilizing now and have been around the same difference apart all day

In a way, it's a good thing that Rihanna didn't perform this week. If she had, it would have been so close that the extra sales gained from the X-Factor would have been wasted, as I think Cheryl would have just pipped her with the extra remixes.

At least now Rihanna has a better chance next week.

rihanna deserves to be number 1 by sunday rather than cheryl. its unfair that cheryl got to perform on the x factor because all she did was dance and sing one or 2 lines. the rest was a mime. you can tell the bits that are live . any time she actually sings she is out of tune hahaha
Appartenly Cheryl Cole's ahead of Rihanna by 20,000 copies :o

The sales are in the midweek thread, so everyone on this site who cares will already know :P

EDIT: This is my 17,000th post :w00t:

actually its nearly 25,000

at least cheryl won the battle

Only because Rihanna wasn't in the UK to promote, had both songs been performed on X Factor last Sunday I think RiRi would've snatched it quite easily. I know which song will sell the most in the long run, and it's not the overrated Geordie.

Won the battle? Rihanna is going to be #1 next week and definitely a bigger hit in terms of sales, so the battle is just cancelled out. Also rihanna would have 'won' without cheryl beign on x factor.

The reason is pretty irrelevant. The point is Cheryl won. Not that it really matters, both will have fantastic sales, and both will get their week at #1. ^_^
