Gettin' Over You had Fergie added. That's a huge addition.

Considering how cheap Syco are, I doubt they'd get anybody that major. Although I suppose they could easily draft in Leona and it'd be the most surefire #1 of the year.

Don't forget LMFAO too!

But that's sort of my point. If the single version of "The Silence" is almost the same as the album version, it's not going to do well.

It's going to need to be changed quite a bit in order to convince more people to buy the song. Gettin' Over You is a good example, as it was a major success, and they worked off criticism of the song. Some said the original was too much instrumental, and not enough vocals (especially if you want a radio hit), so they added Fergie and LMFAO's vocals on there. They also made the song more mainstream, by adding a bridge into it (interestingly, it was pretty much directly ripped out of Boom Boom Pow, and it did not help that it was Fergie singing both bridges, and that they similar lyrics too! :o).

I don't know what they'll do with The Silence, but they're going to need to do more than just changing the introduction, or doing the usual "rap verse instead of bridge" tactic.

The Silence is a good ballad, and I'm glad that she doesn't release something awful yet again. I have lost a lot of respect for her and her music when she released SWY. I hope it will do well, and also hopefully that the new version won't ruin the original.

I won't vote for now though, I need to hear more details about the release.

Yeah, they may have remixed it and chopped and changed it, but it's undeniable that without Fergie it would not have got anywhere near #1. Kind of sad really but that's the way the chart works. Adding Fergie's unmistakable vocals made it stand out and led to more interest in it in the media and from the public. I mean, is it really coincidence that David Guetta's singles that featured "major" artists all got to #1, whereas the ones that had "lesser" artists (Kid Cudi and Estelle) both missed the top 10 - despite arguably being better?

Anyway, I don't think it's much of a comparison as Alexandra is far bigger than David Guetta, whose success depends on who he has singing on the song not him himself.

I do agree though that the changes made to The Silence will have to be pretty major, or at least have a big, notable artist as a "duet" - if she wants to get to #1, that is. Even without that she'd still probably get top 10/5.

The Estelle song flopped because, let's face it, it was awful. Memories peaked far higher and it wasn't even playlisted by Radio 1. That's how bad OL was.

I think Memories would have actually had a shot at #1 if it weren't released such a long time after the album... or if they released it not long after Day 'N' Nite ie. when Kid Cudi was briefly relevant.

(Then again, Kid Cudi must still have retained some relevance when he managed to chart with Erase Me earlier this year. Or perhaps it could have just charted because of Kanye West... then again Kanye himself had clearly lost some relevance as his lead single with R1 A-List support released the same week as Erase Me only made #36)

I'll stop rambling now :P

I'll agree with you on Memories being a lot better than WLTO, SB and GOY though. OL is easily the worst of the bunch however.

Top 10. However, I might change my mind when we hear more regarding the release.
Top 10? Around the same peak as Broken Heels if left in it's current form which I take it will not actually be the case? If they add some sort of collaberation to it or whatever they're planning, then combined with a presumed X-Factor performance it could of course giver her another Top3/Top 5. I think #1 might be going a bit too optimistic though.

Fergie being on the song is part of "remixing" it though. You're making the same point as I am.

The Silence needs to be changed to a decent extent to get to #1. If it's just a little rap verse, it would probably only get top 10, max.

Things I'd suggest need to be added/changed/improved in the song are:

It depends what the new version of The Silence will be like. If it's just an extra rap verse, I don't think it'll help much (except her devoted fans can buy both versions to get it to chart a bit higher). If it's a full on remix, with a different instrumental, different bridge, different introduction, maybe a guest female vocalist, it should be a hit, as I'm sure the people who already own the song would want to buy the new version too.

Okay, so it's a tie between THE SILENCE getting to #1 or going Top 10.
If the new version of the song is the one in the video I've just seen on Bliss and The Box, then it's almost, if not exactly, the same

Wait, what? There's a video for it?

I LOVED start without you!! Don't know why?

If STY go to number 1 , The Silence must.

And anyway, this song is perfect for XF!! The massive notes at the end WILL show she STILL has it!!

Yes :P

:o Really? I can't find it on YouTube! I'm excited to see it! ^_^

Top 5 if xfactor, top 10 if not.

Alex can go Top 5 or No 1 without an X-factor performance. After seeing the video and hearing the changes (choir added, something is slightly different at the bridge, more high notes and the rasp is not so noticable).I think she should get her fourth No 1.Really enjoyed the video, just Alex at a photoshoot but she looks great and is very over dramatic.

Those sound like *very* minor changes.

That gives me the opinion anyone who thinks this is going to be #1 is deluded. I'll stand by my prediction of top 20.
