Posted July 19, 200619 yr What's everyone's fave Dance/Techno/Electronica albums of all-time? Leftfield - Leftism Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works vol 1 Future Sound of London - Dead Cities VNV Nation - Future Perfect The Shamen - Pro-Gen The Shamen - Boss Drum CombiChrist - Everybody Hates You Rotersand - Welcome To Goodbye The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation KLF - The White Room Orbital - Snivilisation The Orb - Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld The Drum Club - Everything Is Now Autechre - Amber Polygon Window (Aphex Twin) - Surfing on Sine Waves Future Sound of London - Lifeforms Covenant - Europa Covenant - United States of Mind Goldie - Timeless Sabers of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall
July 19, 200619 yr Author 'boss drum' is a fantastic album.... If you like that, you should listen to Leftfield mate....
July 20, 200619 yr Agree with Shamen, KLF and Prodigy albums, + I'd also suggest Daft Punk's 'Homework'.
July 20, 200619 yr Author Not heard any of the above albums. :o :o That's pretty shocking mate, I mean, you are a 'Dance' music fan, yeah?? I aint meaning to be funny or nowt, but a Dance Music fan not hearing albums by the likes of The Orb, Orbital, Underworld, The Prodigy, Leftfield, The Shamen, Chemical Brothers or The KLF is a bit like a Metaller who's never heard of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple or Led Zep..... And considering that these albums are all only a decade or so old (as opposed to almost 40 years in the case of Sab or Zep...), it's even more unbelievable that you aint heard at least one of em...
July 20, 200619 yr Author Agree with Shamen, KLF and Prodigy albums, + I'd also suggest Daft Punk's 'Homework'. That's the first one innit? Yeah, I heard that when it came out in '96, quite liked it, certainly a bit more dark and edgy than the cheesy Disco c**p they're doing now....
July 21, 200618 yr The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation To be honest this was my least fav of their 3 major albums. I became a fan during the Fat of the Land era (still love that one) and bought this and Experience. While the bizarre, sort of... prehistoric dance from Experience fascinated me, I never listened much to this one. And before you lambaste me I was only 11 when Fat of the Land came out so there's almost no way I could have discovered them pre-sellout :P :P
July 21, 200618 yr Orbital - Snivilisation Once again, because I came in sort of late to the game... I'm familiar with really early stuff like Chime (why do I still love this so much?) and much later mainstream songs like Halcyon, The Saint, and Satan. I'll be sure to check this album out though - thanks!!!

And before you lambaste me I was only 11 when Fat of the Land came out so there's almost no way I could have discovered them pre-sellout :P :P "Fat of the Land" has its moments ("Breathe", "Firestarter", "Smack My b**ch Up", etc), but as an album, it's not really that great, "...Jilted Generation" is an utter classic from beginning to end; "Experience" again, has the problem of feeling like an album with great singles, but with some of padding... But, in saying that, I'd certainly rather listen to "Fat of the Land" or "Experience" anyday than the rather disastrous "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned", which only has about two or three tracks I can even bear listening to....

I'm familiar with really early stuff like Chime (why do I still love this so much?) and much later mainstream songs like Halcyon, The Saint, and Satan. I'll be sure to check this album out though - thanks!!! The stand out track on "Snivilisation" is the sublime 15-minute "Are We Here?" - brilliant, simply brilliant.... "Halcyon" and "Satan" are originally from Orbital's first two albums - before "Snivilisation" which is their third - (the 'Green' one for "Satan", the 'Brown' one for "Halcyon and On"), they were just re-released later on in Orbital's career (an interesting metalled-up version of "Satan" appears on the "Spawn" soundtrack with Metallica's Kirk Hammet doing guitar breaks and riffs....).... I was never huge on "The Saint" to be honest, it was okay, but it felt like they were just doing it for the money....
July 22, 200618 yr That's the first one innit? Yeah, I heard that when it came out in '96, quite liked it, certainly a bit more dark and edgy than the cheesy Disco c**p they're doing now.... i wouldnt call the latest stuff cheesy disco c**p hold up to stuff like this [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ulo_IPArg_A.swf rather than this: [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KkqLryi4bQ.swf ( this was written by Thomas Bangalter's Dad) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6f/Thomasbangalter.jpg Bangalter Dad not pictured  [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzfqZcTluHc.swf [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx5Jlap6uZY.swf all together now: Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, Trash it, change it, melt - upgrade it, Charge it, pawn it, zoom it, press it, Snap it, work it, quick - erase it, Write it, cut it, paste it, save it, Load it, check it, quick - rewrite it, Plug it, play it, burn it, rip it, Drag and drop it, zip - unzip it, Lock it, fill it, curl it, find it,
July 22, 200618 yr Agree with Shamen, KLF and Prodigy albums, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/ce/2K_-_Wheelchair.gif Sorry but i dont just get why the music of the klf is considered to be such a big deal, so much that the wikipedia entry goes on and on and on and on and they even have their own wikiproject: This article is part of WikiProject The KLF, an attempt to improve and expand coverage of The KLF and related topics whilst on the Oasis discussion page of wikipedia: This article is part of the Alternative music WikiProject, a group of Wikipedians interested in improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to Alternative rock, and who are involved in developing and proposing standards for their content, presentation and other aspects. If you would like to help out, you are welcome to drop by the project page and/or leave a query at the project's talk page. so Oasis are not in anyway as important as the klf, a band who had 5 singles and when i had a look on youtube just sound like scooter or someone else like that  so in order of importance to culture i guess its 1. The KLF 2. Darren Hayes 3. Chico 4. Ocean Color Scene 5. Oasis

Oasis  The KLF were there when the burgeoning dance/rave scene was just kicking off and they created some utterly compelling and experimental music and are rightly held up as a major influence on just about any serious Dance Act that followed to this day.... Oasis, by contrast, just copied a tried and trusted formula (pioneered by The Beatles), never did anything remotely risk-taking or original and 'inspired' a bunch of sh!t corporate "indie" bands....
July 26, 200618 yr Author DJ Shadow - Endtroducing David Holmes - Let's Get Killed Yep, like these ones too... Cracking albums.... And I quite unbelievably omitted Chemical Brothers' magnificent "Dig Your Own Hole" from my original list... DOH!!!
