January 22, 201114 yr Interesting comment on ESC Today; EVERYONE! My Icelandic friend has told me that Sjonni Brink's song will not be replaced - his friends are going to sing it next week and it can still go to Eurovision! The presenters have said it! Potential competition for Yohanna? Certainly the public will be with the song and what it represents. O/T but strange to hear Twist Of Love in the background, I was just humming it in the shower earlier  It's not even an Icelandic entry...
January 22, 201114 yr I just saw that. As far as I'm concerned that's game set and match. Yohanna doesn't stand a chance.
January 22, 201114 yr I just saw that. As far as I'm concerned that's game set and match. Yohanna doesn't stand a chance. I'd say so too. I wonder how the song would be introduced at ESC, if there will be any mention of it being a tribute. I'm sure the commentators will point it out at least. And indeed, the song should probably be kept in Icelandic.
January 22, 201114 yr A part of me is now hoping that Yohanna is just put out of her misery tonight. Along with the rest of us!
January 22, 201114 yr Yohanna through to the final...unsurprisingly. She'll finish 2nd and we'll never hear an English version but hey... and oh dear god at the other qualifier, expected though :/
January 22, 201114 yr I sort of knew Eldgos was going through... it isn't over until the fat lady sings  I'm glad that Sjonni's song will still be in the contest, though I do feel a bit bad for Yohanna, and for the fact that we'll never hear the English version (then again, that's more of a Swedish thing, I just found that the English version of Milana Misic's Finnish song from last night is being released on Monday :o My fave )
January 22, 201114 yr True, in Sweden, when a song is in Swedish, it's usually with good reason. Nótt is in Icelandic because it's in the rules of the competition. Considering Yohanna releases most of her music in English, I'm sure the English version will be on her next album. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if it was originally written in English and then translated in order to be eligible for the Icelandic selection.

We haven’t decided yet, we haven’t won the competition, so let’s go one step at a time. The song was actually written in English and I personally think it’s better in English, but it’s up to the writers. If I do win, I’d love to perform it in English at the end of the final, but right now, it’s just a dream. From ESC Today.
January 23, 201114 yr Johanna still stands a chance I think. A tribute's a tribute but let's not forget there are always shocks - who would've seen Cascada beating Michael Jackson, for one? It'll be close but if the song isn't up to scratch I'd hope Nott can blow it out of the water...

It'll be close but if the song isn't up to scratch I'd hope Nott can blow it out of the water... We can only hope. It's a fitting tribute to Sjonni, and it would make a great story for this years contest, but all his previous entries into the Icelandic NF have been really bland, and I'm expecting this one to be the same. Hopefully the best song will win.
January 23, 201114 yr It depends how it's sung as well. If the people singing it are crap then tribute or not Yohanna should knock the socks off it. The rest of Europe isn't going to know that it's a tribute, or care. They'll hear a badly sung song and it'll get Nil Points. If the Icelandic's have any sense Yohanna will still win. [unless of course the tribute is well sung and lifechangingly epic. In which case fair play to it.]
January 24, 201114 yr The songs from the (all male) third semi are up here; http://vefir.ruv.is/songvakeppnin/ The guy who sang Elisabet is here as part of a band - can't say I like the song though  The second song is more chirpy but I not my sort of thing...Sjonni Brink's song is (like his entry from last year) very happy and jolly and reminds me of Banjo-Kazooie music! It's easily the best song in this semi and with his friends singing it in tribute is the probable winner of the whole thing but it's doubtful that it would go anywhere in ESC. Song 4 is a less poppy Icelandic take on The Wanted's Lose My Mind and Song 5 is an average piano/rock ballad. Sjonni's song is walking this semi (and would have done even without the tragic cirumstances) but if Iceland are looking to send what is by far and away the best song to ESC - and really their only hope of qualification for the final, it's Yohanna.
January 24, 201114 yr Oh dear... I think we have a winner. It is nowhere near as good as Yohanna's song, but Aftur Heim will be very sweet with Sjonni Brink's friends singing it.
January 24, 201114 yr I'm still hoping the big tribute burst will come in this heat and that sense will prevail in the final. Aftur heim and Eg lofa to the Final please...
January 24, 201114 yr Yeah really liking Eg Lofa, but I wish it went a bit more schlager than rock after the first chorus :( Even a bit The Killers would be nice. Sjonni's song is very nice too, pleasantly Beatlesesque. Also HELLO Georg Alexander Valgeirsson :kink: Shame the song's a bit crap.
January 25, 201114 yr Author 'Ég lofa' is quite AMAZING. :o Probably my fave of the whole contest now. Sigurjón's song is good too. These two should qualify.
January 25, 201114 yr Semi final 3 'Sáluhjálp' \\ 6/10 // The verses are really slow and boring, but the chourses are good 'Ég lofa' \\ 9.5/10 // This is amazing 'Ég trúi á betra líf' \\ 6/10 // Reminds me of 'Sáluhjálp' 'Morgunsól' \\ 3/10 // No, I don't like this 'Aftur heim' \\ 8/10 // I hope this and 'Ég lofa' qualifies, but I hope they doesn't send this to Eurovision Final Nótt \\ 10/10 // I love this, they have to send this !! Yóhanna never dissepoint, can't wait to hear the English version (I'm 99% sure she will translate) but even in Icelandic it's amazing.. maybe it just should be in Icelandic? Like I said in the MGP thread, if Babel Fish is being sent to ESC, I'm going to move to Iceland.. if Nótt wins Söngvakeppnin 2011 I'm moving there right away!! 'Eldgos' \\ 6/10 // I kind of like this a little lmao 'Ef ég hefði vængi' \\ 4/10 // I don't like this 'Ástin mín eina' \\ 8.5/10 // Very beautiful, some of these lyrics I think I understand, because it sounds like Norwegian.. "Aldri gløyma hjerte..." - "Never forget the heart..."
January 29, 201114 yr Aftur Heim is definitely a worthy tribute, his friends are all fellow singers, a couple of whom I recognise from former Icelandic NF's, so the vocals were very strong and it works well as a group performance. This is sailing to the final, and probably Eurovision.
