The album has leaked in full now.

Most of it sounds nothing remotely like TT and is certainly going to shock a lot of fans. On first listen it sounds very interesting - and frankly quite a few of the tracks would fit nicely on 'Rudebox' :o Underground Machine is electro/rock Robbie - a bit similar to 'Break America' :o

Happy Now is very 'Last Days Of Disco' imo - really liking Kidz and SOS (I knew a duet between Rob and Mark would work very well and have a great rockier sound to it)

This is as about as far removed from BW as it gets tbh. Some fans are surely going to be saying to themselves "WTF is THIS?" The lack of Gary is really quite shocking. His main track Eight Letters doesn't even sound right with the others.

The many fans of the Barlow ballads are not going to be happy at all. -_-

I however am pleasantly surprised and am really enjoying the energy to this album - it's a very interesting record, which is something I never thought I would say about a TT album :o

Excellent job by Mr Price on the production front btw. I had forgotton he had originally been shortlisted by Rob to produce RKTVS but he went with Horn instead. Obviously wanted to let him do this instead and I am glad he did as he has done a very good job.

OMG I'll give this my first listen in a couple of seconds.. I really loved the typical TT sound... i hope it won't shock me negatively.

Absolutely amazing. It'll cost them a fair amount of fans but they have done their best album yet. Fantastic songwriting from Mr. Barlow. Hats off.

Mr Barlow... em !!! I guess it's obvious that he was heavily influenced by Robbie as I doubt he would had the creativity or imagination to write an album like this on his own <_<

well done boys !!! great album ;)

Well it clearly says in the Q interview that Gary Barlow went into the New York studio with the 10 tracks already laid down. He doesn't know his way around good lyrics ... but he can be trusted on the music front. I think to be fair ... it has to be mentioned ... else it seems everyone thinks Rob did this all on his own.

This is about as far removed for Gary’s songwriting style as it gets. There is not a hope in hell they would have changed direction in such a drastic way had it not been for Rob rejoining and it would be more than naive to think otherwise. The Circus part 2 would have been a certainty, and in many ways in terms of mass appeal in the UK they may regret not doing exactly that. I am not for one moments suggesting Gary didn’t have imput – as we know from the Q article he had already done many of the backing music to the tracks upon the NY songwriting session, to Rob’s surprise who was shocked Gary knew anything about the history of electro music. I have no doubt a lot of the basic music overall was from Gaz (although with this type of music that could very well have been very basic and then built up via different effects, especially after Price got on board - it's the type of sound where the original demo of the music would quite possibly not even be recognizable compared to the finished product), but I also have no doubt Rob had a big imput in coming up with alot of the music too, the beats etc because as we know, although he is not an accomplished musician, he loves writing electro music on computers and coming up with hooks and experimenting with different sounds when writing. I imagine they worked together, all five of them in coming up and I am sure they had a lot of fun doing so. It’s a totally different way of creating music, and one where a producer such as Price can be utilized very effectively which has been proven here with the excellent production.

Many of the tracks sound very Robbie – the electro music and the melodies in particular – the lyrics obviously although they are not really the high point of the record overall imo, although they do certainly suit the sound. Quite a number of tracks would fit very well on Rudebox and in many respects with album is like the son of Rudebox. Rudebox the album, and the B-sides/outtakes (Break America etc) is very close in sound to many of these tracks – as are Disco, Weirdos and Arizona from RKTVS. Robbie must have been delighted when the lads also wanted to take a big risk and go for a totally different direction – one he has done many times in the past and one he adores. No wonder he is so excited.

I agree 100% as to where the influences came from, I also think that Robbie & Gary work very well together as can be seen from Heart & I on Robbies album so I do give credit where it's due but I am sorry I am not giving all the credit to Gary Barlow, he may have had the tracks already as was stated in Q but without Robbie I doubt that we would have got the finished product we hear today. Nothing up to this about any of TT albums has ever caught my attention music wise ( with the exception of a few of the older tracks ) but this is different , it's interesting & the obvious Robbie influences & musical taste has made it so

But you do go on as though Rob invented electro-pop. I just think no-one here is going to give in and say it is a joint effort ... without getting the last 'you can tell actually Rob wrote the whole bloody thing'. Seriously ... that is why someone has to put in a word for the others. There are three songs there that sound as if they are Mark's and Mark's alone (he certainly doesn't need any help from Rob when it comes to imagination.)

I have already said I think all five five of them worked together to create it - never did I say Rob wrote it on his own. But similarly comments praising Gary's songwriting for the whole effort is quite ridiculous to put it mildly. Rob certainly didn't creative Electro-pop  But as we know along with hip-hop it is his fave genre of music and one he has been doing for years now - since TT have come back their sound has been very much 'safe' radio2 MOR type of songs - risks were not taken. When Rob comes back they are suddenly doing the type of tracks he has been doing with the likes of Soul Mechanic for years (most of which have probably never seen the light of day for too 'out there' sadly) - so it doesn't take a rocket science to see that his rejoining has largly influenced the overall sound. They wrote it together but do you really think they would be releasing this type of album had Rob not rejoined? (don't know why I am even asking as I read you say only the other day that they would not be :P )

Kath ...you are getting the wrong end of the stick here on what I am saying.....I agree it was a joint effort & I am not looking for the 'last word on it' because that does not actually matter but when I see a comment posted congratulation Gary Barlow & ignoring everybosy else's input then I think I am allowed to say how I feel about it...no hard feelings ;)

I would not have bought a TT album before but I will buy this one & I personally think that some of the tracks are similar as DeNiro says to tracks on RKTVS ( the interesting side of the album ) so that is where I am coming from,

I am even impressed by Mark Owen & that is saying something

Listening to 'Happy Now' now - the melody to the verses are so Robbie - the bridge is very Gary and the chorus seems to be a joint effort - I am talking about writing, as obviously this is the case vocally. It's a nice mixture of the styles that blends well together IMO. It does appear that a lot of it is whoever is singing certain lines has their stamp on the melody too and it shows, which is something I like. The only issue I have with Happy Now is that about 3/4 in it starts dragging on a bit.

Oh I knew this would happen.

All the TT fans who love it will praise Gary

All the TT fans who hate it will blame Robbie

All the Robbie fans who love it will praise Robbie

All the Robbie fans who hate it will blame Gary

Such is life. :P

Anyway, I'm off to have my first listen. I'll report back with my verdict tomorrow night.

If I love it I'll praise Jason. Just to be different.

If I hate it I'll blame it on the boogie.

Sorry for biting your head off Cleo! I don't know what came over me. I think I am actually in a bit of a bad mood because I turned down the offer of a Manchester Ticket (when I was in my 'I detest the Tory Gary Barlow' mood) and now I regret it when I think that this could be an album I really like and I've missed an opportunity to see some of the songs live!

It is weird ... this album looks to be as far removed from BW as possible ... and yet I loved BW too! I did think The Circus was very 'meh' (although the tour was brilliant) ... but this album is making me like them again. I just want people to say 'Well done Take That' ... without singling out Rob or Gary ... when all FIVE of them (yes FIVE) make up what is Take That.

Now you see ... both Barlow and Williams would give their left arm to write lyrics like that!

Well done to Robbie,Gary,Howard,Jason & Mark ...great job overall & I actually mean that ;)

Have pre-ordered my very first TT album B)

MY ITUNES HAS TURNED INTO A TAKE THAT TUNES! LOL AT THE SITE ONLY PROMOTING TT!

I still believe the album is closer to Robbie than to TT. (although it is not my favourite Rob style it has the marks of RKTVS and Rudebox all over it) Mark's influence is very strong on the whole thing as well.

Suggested album title: Rob & Mark in wonderland, Gary's fans at exile/ Mark the Robellution!

On the album now: (I've just listened to it once so far)

-The Flood: 'nough said

-SoS: Strange blend...Robbie sings rock and Mark pop in this one? (a 'tiny' bit of shine?) Not bad at all.

-Wait: Instant (rudebox-like) but a bit boybandish as well. I like this one.

-Kidz: That is a bit too alternative but it is attractive nevertheless. Really fresh song :) (chelsea dagger?)

-Pretty things: I like the music and Rob's whispering voice (Last days of Disco into twinkle twinkle little star?) LOVE this one!!! (3rd single)

-Happy Now: The Actor into Mika this time... the chorus is kind of too light for me.

-Underground Machine: A MUCH better version of do you mind. Some interesting lyrics ... This could be a Kasabian song.

-What do you want from me: Not my favourite song of the album... a typical Mark song (the main focus here could be the lyrics but I am not moved)

-Affirmation:I struggle to understand some of the lyrics obviously not the best singer in TT but the song doesn't help at all. ultimate FILLER -_-

-8 letters: Nice one, just a reminder of old TT. This is clearly Gary's work isn't it? I like this song either way. Gary should have another 'love' ballad in this album imo (2nd single).

It is experimental but it is fresh. I'd love to see Gary a little bit more involved but I definitely like Robbie being the frontman.

Will traditional TT fans like this electro-pop alternative album?

Just preordered my copy. I am curious about the singles though: there are no obvious singles.

Are there any complains for Rob's bad influence on TT sites already? :o I think they will like the album in the end :music: Or not... who cares :heehee:

Like Kathyp said. It's clearly written in the Q interview and Robbie confirmed it. It was Gary who wrote the inital songs. That's why he wanted to rename Take That into the English because the songs were fra from what Take That had ever done. You can read it in the interview. Of course during the course of the writing process everyone worked on the tracks......However, they all together have created an amazing sound. Well done Take That. I'm happy for them to have created a really exiting album. It's not about Gary, Robbie, Mark, Howard or Jason. It's about Take That. Long may it last.
