the top 20 from this date 1965

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

for all you 60's fans, heres the chart from 45 years ago, in the heart of the swinging 60's!

1 Seekers The Carnival Is Over

2 The Rolling Stones Get Off Of My Cloud

3 The Who My Generation

4 Len Barry 1-2-3

5 The Animals It's My Life

6 The Toys A Lover's Concerto

7 Bob Dylan Positively 4th Street

8 Cliff Richard Wind Me Up (Let Me Go)

9 Ken Dodd Tears

10 Gene Pitney Princess In Rags

11 Chris Andrews Yesterday Man

12 Elvis Presley Tell Me Why

13 Paul & Barry Ryan Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches

14 Ken Dodd The River

15 The Fortunes Here It Comes Again

16 Jim Reeves Is It Really Over?

17 Matt Monro Yesterday

18 Petula Clark You're The One

19 Roy Orbison Crawlin' Back

20 The Yardbirds Evil Hearted You / Still I'm Sad

what strikes me is the amount of male solo artists in this chart, 11/20 ! with tv's ken dodd being reprisented twice! (abit like x factor now?) . only a quarter of the chart was by 'groups'... with the #1 being the sloppiest most sentimenatal mush ever to enter the charts! (he he, i know some of you will like it.... but it was hardly cutting edge).

my favs...

yardbirds... 'evil hearted you/still im sad' a fantastic double a side track by one of the most overlooked 60's greats. gregorian chant in a pop record? gotta be a first!

animals ... 'its my life' theres something about this lamentful track that grabs me, maybe its chas chandlers bassline

who ... 'my generation' possibly the teen anthem of all time, i always regarded it as a punk classic ten years early.

'My Generation' is amazing  Easily the best Who song

I didn't realise it was 45 years old though :o

If The Who 'My Generation' is the song that goes "Talking bout' my genn eration" then it is easily the greatest song on this chart! I haven't heard any others so this stands the test of time.

I'm not shocked its 45 years old, it's very 60s
