December 5, 201014 yr Author 50. Meat Beat Manifesto - "Answers Come In Dreams" http://www.fixtstore.com/img/graphics/IndieStore/MeatBeatManifesto_AnswersComeInDreams%202.jpg genre: electronic highlight track: To be fair this should be much higher, as it's pretty incredible, but I just haven't listened to it enough. 49. Fake Problems - "Real Ghosts Caught On Tape" http://www.soundstagedirect.com/media/fake_problems_real_ghosts_caught_on_tape.jpg genre: indie rock/beach punk/folk highlight track: 'White Lies' Another one that could be higher if I listened to it more, this was an improvement on their last album but still didn't quite catch the greatness of their first album. 48. The Soft Pack - "The Soft Pack" http://img.noiset.com/images/album/the-soft-pack-extinction-cd-cover-61341.jpeg genre: indie rock highlight track: This album gives me hope that new guitar indie bands can be good, infact this is a great album i'm thinking i should have ranked it higher. 47. Pin Me Down - "Pin Me Down" http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/312lKqpqT1L._SL500_AA300_.jpg genre: indie/alternative dance highlight track: This album is a bit of a wasted potenial, I like the vibe but in the end most tracks sound too similar to make it a great album. 46. We Are Scientists - "Barbara" http://www.thisisfakediy.co.uk/images/uploads//barbara300.jpg genre: indie highlight track: 'Rules Don't Stop' This was dissapointing, as a big fan of their former albums this was a massive new low for the band, i can only hope they will improve with the next album.
December 5, 201014 yr Author 45. Jimmy Eat World - "Invented" http://berglovespizza.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Jimmy-Eat-World-Invented-cover-300x300.jpg genre: alternative rock highlight track: This band appears to get worse with every album, shame really, it's not bad but it's nothing special at all. 44. And So I Watch You From Afar - "The Letters" EP http://img.noiset.com/images/album/and-so-i-watch-you-from-afar-the-letters-ep-cover-art-64130.jpeg genre: post-rock highlight track: 'S is For Salamander' I've given this EP a fair few listens since the start of this year, such a powerful use of guitars. 43. Gallops - "Gallops" http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SbPMK0hnL._SL500_AA300_.jpg genre: post-rock/electronic highlight track: 'Miami Spider' Discovered this band at Reading Festival this year, was really impressed so checked out the EP, and love it. 42. Bomb The Music Industry! - "Adults!!!: Smart!!! $h!thammered!!! And Excited by Nothing!!!!!!!" http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/a3c96b719f6e9d9e8c365f7200373b4b/2743535.jpg genre: ska punk/punk rock highlight track: 'You Still Believe In Me?' I feel like I should have listened to this more as it's pretty great, not quite as good as BTMI!'s 2009 release 'Scrambles'. 41. The Automatic - Tear the Signs Down http://www.rocksound.tv/images/uploads/auto300.jpg genre: post-punk revival highlight track: I was a bit underwhelmed by this release really, after their last album being great after they added Paul Mullen to the band, and the pre-release track from this album ('Something Else') being one of the best tracks they have done, it was a shame the album really didn't capture me much, although it was cool to hear Paul Mullen doing lead vocals for a lot of the tracks on this album.
December 6, 201014 yr The Automatic are still going are they? I've not heard anything by them since the 2007. I never even bothered with the We Are Scientists album, I didn't like the first couple of singles at all. Come to think of it, I didn't bother with the previous album either...
December 6, 201014 yr Author The Automatic are still going are they? I've not heard anything by them since the 2007. I never even bothered with the We Are Scientists album, I didn't like the first couple of singles at all. Come to think of it, I didn't bother with the previous album either... The Automatic got better since 2007 when Paul Mullen from Yourcodenameis:milo joined them, W.A.S' album isnt worth bothering with tbh, their last album was alright though (but still not a patch on WLAS).
December 6, 201014 yr Out of those I've listened to: Pin Me Down: Such a letdown! I wasn't expecting it to be brilliant but I loved 'Crytpic' and 'Time Crisis'. The rest of the album just basically blended into one. We Are Scientists: Another huge disappointment. I even liked their last album quite a bit but this was just boring. Hopefully, like you say, the next album will be a big improvement. The Automatic: I loved 'This is a Fix', such a good album (which I wasn't expecting). Wasn't a fan of this one at all though.
December 6, 201014 yr Author 40. Tyrannosaurus Alan - Campaign http://punkrockoi.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/18.jpg genre: ska punk Highlight track: This is one of the best ska punk releases this year, and the most underated for sure, rap style vocals with a great horn section. 38. HEALTH - DISCO2 http://www.israbox.com/uploads/posts/2010-06/1276060058_300.jpg genre: noise rock Highlight track: A great album of remixes, lead by the wonderful 'USA Boys'. Some of the remixes are fantasic on this album, my favourite being 'Before Tigers' (Blindoldfreak rmx). 37. Weezer - Death to False Metal http://popstache.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/weezer-Death-to-False-Metal-album-artwork-300x300.jpg genre: alternative rock Highlight track: 'The Odd Couple' I really enjoyed this, and it was cool to hear the couple of tracks from Pinkerton times. 36. Elvis Costello - National Ransom http://thehurstreview.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/national-ransom.jpg genre: alternative country Highlight track: 'National Ransom' I felt this was an improvement on some of his material from recent years, but it still failed to grab me to take me back for more listens.
December 7, 201014 yr Author 35. Carl Barat - "Carl Barat" http://www.revolver-club.de/musik/plattenkritiken/2010/cover/carl-barat-carl-barat.jpg genre: indie rock Highlight track: 'Run With The Boys' A big improvement on the last Dirty Pretty Things album, but after a triumphant performance from the Libertines at Reading this year it's clear he has more potenial when working with Pete Doherty. 34. &U&I - "Kill the Man That Shot That Man" http://www.rocksound.tv/images/uploads/andyouandi300.jpg genre: post-hardcore Highlight track: 'Don't Die' This is f***ing awesome, I accept no other opinion on this. 33. Anamanaguchi - "Scott Pilgrim the World: The Game Soundtrack" http://www.filez.st/screenshots/98/4122494198Anamanaguchi_Scott_Pilgrim_vs_the_World_The_Game_2010.jpg genre: chiptune/8bit Highlight track: 'Toronto Map' This is the best 8-bit I have ever heard, f***, best game soundtrack ever, so so good, and so so fitting to the game. 32. The Xcerts - "Scatterbrain" http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_P9zvkyKDzi8/TK3dLbSi8uI/AAAAAAAAABE/Xiq8qguz0hQ/s1600/Xcerts.jpg genre: alternative rock/powerpop Highlight track: A great return from a mega underrated band, it also happens I met them on Friday night, and they are all super nice guys, so listen to their music. yeah. 31. Matt Skiba - "Demos" http://hangout.altsounds.com/geek/gars/images/1/7/6/3/9/rsz_skiba_demos_1.jpg genre: indie/punk Highlight track: Matt Skiba is one of my favourite song writers, this is an album of tracks he has done solo and recorded to his computer, there are some real gems.
December 9, 201014 yr Author 30. Serj Tankian - "Imperfect Harmonies" http://www.serjtankian.com/sites/serjtankian/files/imagecache/project-preview-300x200/IH_500.jpg genre: neo-prog Highlight track: Serj is a real classy musician, although not as good as his first solo album, this is still great. 29. Kele - "The Boxer" http://media.musicfeeds.com.au/files/kele-the-boxer-7064529300.jpg genre: alternative dance Highlight track: A good first solo effort from Kele imo, but not a patch on his work with Bloc Party. 28. Losers - "Beautiful Losers" http://www.shout4music.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/loser1-300x300.jpg genre: electronic Highlight track: Easily one of the best electronic albums released this year, a collaboation between xfm DJ Eddy Temple-Morris and former The Cooper Temple Clause member Tom Bellamy. 27. Laura Marling - "I Speak Because I Can" http://cdn.pastemagazine.com/www/articles/lauramarling.jpg genre: folk Highlight track: No where near as good as her debut album, but this album does explore some interesting experimentation compared to her first. 26. The Gaslight Anthem - "American Slang" http://cdn.pastemagazine.com/www/articles/the%20gaslight%20anthem%20american%20slang.jpg genre: punk rock/heartland rock Highlight track: 'American Slang' Not as good as their two earlier albums, and too similar to their last album, but still a great album, brilliant band.
December 10, 201014 yr Author 25. Angels & Airwaves - "Love" http://mylifeinreverse.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/angels-airwaves-love.jpg genre: alternative rock/neo-prog Highlight track: I think I perfer their earlier albums but I thought this was a good listen with some excellent songs. 24. Iron Maiden - "The Final Frontier" http://www.onemetal.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/cover4.jpg genre: heavy metal Highlight track: Why kill a bad fomula right? ok so they might not have changed much as a band but this is still a powerful metal album. 23. Eminem - "Recovery" http://www.getasol.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/eminem-recovery-album-cover-300x300.jpg genre: hip hop Highlight track: Thank f*** for this album because I actually thought he had lost it with the terribleness that is "Relapse", ok so this isnt any where near as good as old eminem, but it's still got some great tunes and lyrics, omething which "Relapse" lacked. 22. Crystal Castles - "Crystal Castles" http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DQkGJCBIBG8/TP9U0Yjc5wI/AAAAAAAAAr8/JKU-pd3v_Mc/s1600/crystal.castles.sleeve.2.000001.jpg genre: electronic Highlight track: I very much perfer their first, but this is still a good listen. And although it's not the version on the album, the Robert Smith vocal version of 'Not In Love' is easily one of the best tracks this year. 21. Girl Talk - All Day http://www.uncrate.com/men/images/2010/11/girl-talk-all-day.jpg genre: mash-up/electronic Highlight track: This is a mash up masterpiece, that said I think I perfer "Feed The Animals".

December 12, 201014 yr MUCH love for Crystal Castles, Laura Marling and Girl Talk. I can't say that I really know anything else in your list so far, which few would you suggest I listen to?
December 12, 201014 yr thought Serj's album was one of the disappointments of the year :( as mentioned it's nowhere near like his first solo album but the 3 tracks I heard before it came out were so much better than anything else on the album unfortunately. Shame as I absolutely loved his debut solo album but I'm not sure if it was experimenting a bit too much or the songs were just of poor quality I guess that's why SOAD are restarting again next year as Scars On Broadway didn't do too well either Edited December 12, 201014 yr by Gerry1975
December 12, 201014 yr Author MUCH love for Crystal Castles, Laura Marling and Girl Talk. I can't say that I really know anything else in your list so far, which few would you suggest I listen to? hmm, i'd say definatly checkout Sonoio (who you might have had a taster of from UP), Pin Me Down, and maybe Losers. And if you havent already, The Naked and Famous. go through some of the highlight tracks from those releases i linked to above and then maybe check out the whole album if you liked the single tracks. thought Serj's album was one of the disappointments of the year :( as mentioned it's nowhere near like his first solo album but the 3 tracks I heard before it came out were so much better than anything else on the album unfortunately. Shame as I absolutely loved his debut solo album but I'm not sure if it was experimenting a bit too much or the songs were just of poor quality I guess that's why SOAD are restarting again next year as Scars On Broadway didn't do too well either Yeah definatly not as strong as Elect The Dead, I think his album was helped by me having a taster of it at his fantastic performance at Reading Festival this year, but I definatly think he is an excellent musician, I don't think that is the reason for SOAD being back at all though, they were always gonna be back at some point, and we may not even get a new SOAD album.
