When this was released and it shot up iTunes, I read several comments in the iTunes thread describing this song as extremely dull - even for Coldplay's standards. I wasn't really sure what to expect when it came to finally hearing the track. As it is, I think it's a great track. Like two Christmas songs put together like in a medley style. The second half of the song "those christmas lights..." is a joyous piece of music. Especially when they go "ooh ohh ohh ohhhhhhh". It has a really warm Xmasy feel about the track. Odd that this has done so much better in Europe than it has in the UK. Maybe releasing on a Wednesday went against Coldplay - had it been releaed on the Sunday, it probably would've gone top 10 last Sunday.

Initially, I preferred this to 'Christmas Lights' and this was even placed higher than Coldplay in my Pre-Release Chart a week ago. How a lot can change in 7 days. Still think this is a great Xmas track - can't remember how well 'Guadalope' did in my chart but it definitely wasn't high up in my chart.

Well, it wasn't much cop to begin with. I thought it was ok but a bit ho-hum - good enough to dent my top 20 last week but it has got boring really fast. In fact, it's just made me appreciate the Dirty Dancing original more. :lol: I wouldn't be at all surprised if Black Eyed Peas plummeted out of my top 40 next week. From 'I Gotta Feeling' to 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' in the space of 18 months. :drama: If I'm being 100% honest, I'd rather have seen Willow #1 in the UK chart today as I prefer that song out of the two. Not that it says much, ideally Nicole Scherzinger would be #1 for her second week. :P

04 (--) Coldplay - Christmas Lights (04) [1 wk] I'm no Coldplay fan but this is very good!

 

It's a great genuine Xmas song. Makes a refreshing change to have a new Christmas song to listen to rather than recycling the old (albeit great) Xmas songs from years gone by. It's clearly all about the second half of the song. ^_^

 

09 (--) Michael Jackson feat. Akon - Hold My Hand (09) [1 wk] Quite pleasant although very dated sounding. I was surprised to hear it on Heart today, I know they love MJ but I've NEVER heard them play anything by Akon before! :lol:

 

I really like 'Hold My Hand' in an inoffensive way. Even with Akon providing vocals, often his vocals can grate on me but with other tracks like 'The Sweet Escpae' and 'Sexy Bitch' I can tolerate Akon's vocals much more.

 

19 (--) Kylie Minogue - Better Than Today (19) [1 wk] Disappointed that this didn't make the UK top 30 - what a flop for her!

 

I think Kylie just doesn't appeal to the average iTunes downloader. She might have the loyal fanbase but obviously this isn't enough to make her fans buy every single she releases on CD. 'All The Lovers' was a one off that appealed to more people and this was evident in its chart run. If 'Get Outta My Way' couldn't make the top 10 with physical sales, then it was always going to be a struggle for single #3.

 

21 (--) Robyn - Indestructible (21) [1 wk] Wow this is low! She left far better songs on her albums though in my opinion...Time Machine, In Your Eyes and Call Your Girlfriend - youtube them if you get a chance!

 

Well, it is low but in my head I never had this down as a high new entry anyways. I like it but nowhere near as much as I did 'Hang With Me'.
