December 14, 201014 yr As many people have said, they're just too expensive. I only shop there in the sale for dvd's/albums or cd singles, which are pretty much £2 everywhere.
December 14, 201014 yr Just another business which failed to adapt to a changing times. Can't wait to see the record companies blame this on piracy
December 14, 201014 yr In Edinburgh, where I live, there's hardly anything in the shop. I don't go to HMV these days - I prefer the online HMV or Amazon :)
December 14, 201014 yr I'm shocked by this. They are now the only major retailer of music and DVDs in my area. I buy everything from HMV and the online store is very price competitive.
December 14, 201014 yr Author They might keep their online services, its like Woolworth's there is an online store available.
December 14, 201014 yr What other stores do you guys have here in the UK? I've been here for one and a half months now and HMV became a huge part of my London life. I always go on a bargain hunt of the Oxford Street or Trocadero stores, haha. It's the whole vibe of being in a store full of CDs I like, so on-line is really not the way to go for me. Plus, I don't think it's expensive. CDs come out on sale at around £9-£10, back in Portugal they come out at €16. There's a few "raraties" that are shockingly expensive at HMV but I think that's because they have very few, sometimes only that one, in stock. HMV Trocadero had Girls Aloud's The Sound of... market at £10, I bought it at £3 at Oxford Street. I just love HMV. If you buy chart music, HMV is more or less it. If you like other types of music there are a number of shops in Berwick Street (off Oxford Street) which even sell vinyl if you want that.
December 14, 201014 yr they should lower the prices and make it cheaper than online stores... plus people should move their a$$es and leave their PC's alone and GET A LIFE while doing some real shopping :w00t: down the street!!! I'm sure they try and sell most of their stock as competitively as possible. However, they incur costs which don't arise online, e.g. premises, staff etc. And I care that HMV may be shutting down? No I remember recently going there to buy a trance compilation. It was £18 there so I bought it on iTunes instead which was £10. I'm sure amazon was £8. Look at the number of albums promoted on the HMV online front page or on iTunes. There are far more - and more diverse - albums promoted in your average branch of HMV. The loss of the last major music chain would almost certainly see even less variety in the charts. It would be even more difficult for a new act to make any sort of breakthrough.

December 14, 201014 yr Oh thanks! Sounds great, HMV has really high prices on Indie stuff. My favourite for indie music is Sister Ray. If you walk down Berwick Street from Oxford Street, it's on your left.
December 14, 201014 yr I doubt HMV would close in the near future. Where else is there, now? Woolworths closed, WHSmith don't seem to stock CDs anymore. HMV is probably one of only two stores in my town center where you can buy CDs, and the other one is a rubbish independent store. And I don't get people complaining about the price - I always think that the CD prices are either cheaper or the same as normal. I prefer to buy from a store, but if I do order online, I prefer HMV over Amazon or Play. HMV seem to be quicker at delivering. Christmas shopping at the weekend, my Dad spent about £155 in HMV. I go in there often, really should get a loyalty card, but I think you need to pay a small fee in the first place to get it, which puts me off when a Boots advantage card is free. It can be a rip off, Sugababes Sweet 7 is currently priced at £16 at my local one   My local store doesn't have any normal CDs over £10 (even Justin Bieber's "My Worlds Collection" (the new one, with about 31 tracks) is only £10). The only ones more expensive than that are deluxe editions.
December 14, 201014 yr HMV we don't have it. But I'm sure it is a very nice store. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
December 14, 201014 yr My HMV is a total joke, I was there a few weeks ago with my Mum to buy presents. We got Take That's new album, Bionic by Xtina and a Fleetwood Mac Cd (2 for 10 deal) The nitwit at the till tried to charge us £46 for it  Then it was £24 then, after 3 more tries he got the right price of £19.99. Plus, they are charging £20 for Madonna's Hard Candy album and £3 for Celebration 2CD version. Edited December 14, 201014 yr by Regina Flowers
December 14, 201014 yr ^^alot of album prices will always go up and down but wait a while and you are likely to get it on sales eventually for as low as 3 squid.hope hmv doesnt close - i thought capitalism was meant to offer MORE choice not restrict choice by forcing people off the high street.hmv is good as they focus solely on media so they are more specific to customer needs and the people in store actually know about music unlike the corporates like tesco et al.there are still butchers on the high st even tho we have a tescopoly in every town so hopefully a record stiore in every big town can too!!
