Karen Gillan was also in the Pompeii episode as a completely different character. Granted, like one season away from her debut as Amy but still.

They weren't cast as the next companion at the time, though. But as Joseph said this is Steven Moffat so all we need to do is wait for the episodes.

What did we all think of the Christmas special then?

I thought it was really good and a real step up on last year's (which unfortunately I'm struggling to remember). The villain was excellently portrayed and the Doctor's new 'assistant' added some good comedy value.

Could have been that my attention span was starting to fade, but my one qualm would be the very end where the snow suddenly started to melt after coming back, from a family crying and it miraculously melts the intelligence? I found it slightly random, but it could just be me misunderstanding things...

Clara was great as well and seems like she'd be a wonderful 'companion' (if she even classes as that, as there's clearly a lot of mystery behind her)...she's really hot as well, which helps... :P

Oh my days I thought it was just perfect (aside from that tiny little bit of stupidity regarding the TEAR). It was funny (the Sontaran and especially ''I'm a lizard creature from the dawn of time and this is my wife'' bit) and nicely touching and the way they introduced the link between Oswin and Clara was brilliant (even though we all KNEW it was coming). The series looks proper amazing too - CELIA IMRIE *.*

"Run you clever boy.. And Remember!!"

LOVED IT. Jenna-Louise is shaping up to be a great addition and I love the 'Lizard Woman and her wife'.

Its was alright, but nothing special, just a typical Xmas episode of Dr. Who, I thought the ending when he lost Carla is something to do with a fracture in time. I just hope the lizard woman, her wife and the sontaran are not regular companions in the new series.

Jenna-Louise is becoming my fav companion since Billie Piper, just fits that role perfect.

Seriously the best Christmas episode since Voyage Of The Damned. I really enjoyed it all the way through, not least because Clara/Oswin stole pretty much whatever scene she was in. An excellent choice for companion - seeing how this all turns out will be intriguing. Hopefully this will see an end to the Doctor's brooding 'I don't want to travel and save the world anymore' shtick but it'll probably reappear in time.

I loved seeing the reappearance of the Silurian and her wife and the Sontaran was fairly good for comic relief. Villains were fairly forgettable and defeated too easily but the important stuff here was with Clara so that didn't matter all too much.

I enjoyed this episode.

Although Clara's personality bothers me a little. She seemed far too savvy for somebody who just met someone who lives in a phonebox in the sky.

I figure maybe Clara keeps reincarnating and she remembers her past lives because she said at the end she wasn't afraid of ghosts.

I loved this episode! Matt Smith's best Christmas episode by far and after only one viewing, it could easily be the best Doctor Who Christmas special yet! Clara was fantastic, yet still very confusing and I loved the guest characters too. The villains were perhaps defeated too easily, but then again, they weren't exactly a terrifying concept/force to start with.

I would have liked to have seen more of the Snowmen rather than the ice lady and the evil snow globe.

The snowmen were genuinely creepy but I thought they were underused. Also I would have liked to have seen the monster snowflakes attacking people.

You may need to rewatch this episode. The villain was not the snowmen, it was the Great Intelligence and it was stopped but not defeated. I believe there's more of it to see and it has something to do with Clara's multiple incarnations.

IT'S SMALLER ON THE OUTSIDE.

I swear I actually predicted she would say the exact same words!

The second half of series seven isn't on until April! :( Hopefully it'll be worth the wait - it's going to be eight stand-alone episodes (so two months' worth), followed by the anniversary special in November and the Christmas one in December, so there's still 10 episodes despite the break this year :D

Here's a brief description of the rest of series seven, apparently from Doctor Who Magazine:

706: Written by Steven Moffat. Directed by Colm McCarthy.

A proper urban thriller, starring a man in a frock coat and a bow tie and quiff from space!

707: Written by Neil Cross. Directed by Farren Blackburn.

Set on an alien planet, an “epic, overwhelming, boiling, red-orange planet”. The brief was: “You know how the Doctor always promises amazing, awesome wonders to his companions, then gets them stuck down a tunnel being attacked my mutant slugs. Let’s deliver some awesome and amazing!”

708: Written by Mark Gatiss. Directed by Douglas Mackinnon.

Mark Gatiss is about to explode fanboy hearts. This is a cracker of an episode, in the grand tradition.

709: Written by Neil Cross. Directed by Jamie Payne.

Spooky and clever and even a little bit romantic.

710: Written by Stephen Thompson. Directed by Mat King.

Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS! Will do what it says on the tin.

711: Written by Mark Gatiss. Directed by Saul Metzstein.

A title to die for. Tread carefully, there are some dreadful things in there!

712: Written by Neil Gaiman. Directed by Stephen Wolfenden.

Gaiman’s new spine-chiller. You already know there are

Cybermen

– what you don’t know is there is something else. A

Cyber

-something else. They are disgusting.

Guest-starring Warwick Davis, Tamzin Outhwaite and Jason Watkins.

713: Written by Steven Moffat. Directed by Saul Metzstein.

“One that will thrill you a bit, and worry you more. Yes, I think you’ll be just a tiny bit worried where we might be going with this one. I’d say more, but then you’d be less worried, and frankly, what’s the point in that?”

Vastra, Jenny and Strax

return.

Spoiler-tagged the most minor things, but just in case people don't want to know!

If the Anniversary Special doesn't last 2 hours I'll be very pissed.

Why?! I'm not sure I could sit through 2 straight hours of any programme I love  Maybe a two-parter would be good. It's said to be a "love letter to the fans". Unrelated, but Matt Smith will be playing the Doctor until at least 2014 (which I am glad of)! He's really come on as an actor and as the character in the first half of series 7 especially, but series 6 onwards too.

Never posted my views on the Xmas special here. I thought it was fantastic, easily the best one since Voyage of the Damned. Jenna-Louise Coleman was FANTASTIC and I'm really loving her (she's no Martha though). The plot was good but a tad wishy-washy at times for me, which isn't a problem as it wasn't really the main focus of the episode. Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax were all fantastic too, I love how Strax especially was used as more of a comedy device.

I'd settle with two one-hour specials then. It's just that the hype is too big for it to end up a 60-minute special.

The mid-season première is called Phantom of the Hex, and is on 30 March! Not long to go now :D

Edit; Jessica Raine (the beautiful Jenny from Call the Midwife) is playing a character called Emma Grayling in this episode!

Episode 9 is called The Cold War and episode 13 (the penultimate of the series) is called The Last Cyberman.

Also - the 50th anniversary is going to be produced in 3D! :D

Phantom of the Hex is written by Neil Cross, so it isn't the first episode to air. The first to air is written by Moffat.
