May 5, 201312 yr Okay, that was definitely my favourite episode so far. I still feel let down though. This Season hasn't been bad compared to previous one's. I miss David Tennant!!! :snif: Next week Looks immense!!!
May 5, 201312 yr Asylum of the Daleks - 6.4m (o/night), 8.3m (final) Dinosaurs on a Spaceship - 5.5m (o/night), 7.57m (final) A Town Called Mercy - 6.6m (o/night), 8.42m (final) The Power of Three - 5.5m (o/night), 7.67m (final) The Angels Take Manhattan - 5.9m (o/night), 7.82m (final) The Snowmen - 7.6m (o/night), 9.87m (final) The Bells of Saint John - 6.18m (o/night), 8.44m (final) The Rings of Akhaten - 5.5m (o/night), 7.45m (final) Cold War - 5.7m (o/night), 7.37m (final) Hide - 5.0m (o/night), 6.61m (final) Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS - 4.9m (o/night), TBC (final) The Crimson Horror - 4.61m (o/night), TBC (final) Seems the ratings just keep dropping and dropping every week, which is a shame. :(
May 5, 201312 yr LOVED that. Jenny going undercover was excellent, as I really like her character but I always think she's vulnerable to getting killed off so I pay attention to every scene she's in. Intriguing Victorian mystery too, pretty good all round. Cybermen becoming Borg and some annoying kids along for the ride too next time? Well this is probably gonna be better than it sounds by the look of it.
May 5, 201312 yr Not a massive fan of Mark Gatiss' episodes normally but that was amazing! The mother/daughter were both very developed and I really felt sorry for the daughter. The scheme was also refreshing and I liked the image of them being presevered in the bottles in the village. I agree about the beginning though and I feel that the Doctor only appearing 15 minutes in probably hurt viewing figures. Vastra/Jenny/Strax aren't well known enough yet to lead the episode and so viewers would have likely switched off as they had no idea what was going on and why the story was following two aliens and a girl. In story terms and for fans who knew who they were, it worked and it was one of the best of the series. Loooking forward to next week with Neil Gaiman writing Cybermen. The setting sounds fantastic too with a disused amusement park, my only disapointment is having the kids on board. I also agree with the coming home comments as Moffat just used that with Amy/Rory like he already used the dying multiple times (even if it is different this time). 1. Asylum Of The Daleks 2. The Crimson Horror 3. Hide 4. The Angels Take Manhattan 5. The Power Of Three 6. Journey to the Centre of the Tardis 7. A Town Called Mercy 8. Cold War 9. The Snowmen 10. Dinosaurs On A Spaceship 11. The Bells of Saint John 12. The Rings of Akhaten
May 5, 201312 yr Loooking forward to next week with Neil Gaiman writing Cybermen. The setting sounds fantastic too with a disused amusement park, my only disapointment is having the kids on board. It has been reviewed by a couple of magazines/online sources already, and some of them have been saying that with the kids on board, it does feel a lot like watching an episode from a CBBC series. I hope that doesn't take away from the overall quality of the episode. :(
May 6, 201312 yr That was such a big surprise about the kids finding out!! I hope it's just for the one episode though. Anyway, I think next week's looks amazing!!

May 6, 201312 yr What a mixed episode that was. Great setting, Rigg and daughter were brilliant, decent idea for a plot and always good to see Vastra. However, Jenny and Strax are appaling comedic elements. Clara is still an incredibly uninteresting companion who is less likeable in this version than previously and I didn't much like the Dalek version. My theory on her story - I'm thinking there could be a Scaroth element to her, causing several identities in time As for The Doctor, the scripts for him this year have been terrible. Matt plays it with great gusto but the scripts have been bad this series. I heard next week the Cybermen were meant to be scary again according to Moffat. So I hope they kill those annoying kids but I suspect it's going to be awful.
May 6, 201312 yr Cybermen becoming Borg and some annoying kids along for the ride too next time? Well this is probably gonna be better than it sounds by the look of it. The Borg will always remain massively indebted to the Cybermen, they were after all acknowledged as an influence on their concept after The Borg's original alien parasite idea proved unworkable. Watch the early Cyberman stories and it's so obvious
May 6, 201312 yr Filming on the 50th Anniversary has finished today. Filming from 2 April - 6 May. A month of filming. Normally, 45 minute/Christmas special episodes take a fortnight (3 weeks at a push) to film, so it would imply this episode is definitely longer than one hour.
May 6, 201312 yr Hopefully the annoying kids don't ruin too much from next weeks episode, I've always liked the cybermen. Edited May 6, 201312 yr by Thermometer
May 6, 201312 yr I REALLY liked that episode - it felt like classic Who for the first time since this batch of episodes started. I also thought that Jenny, Vastra and Strax worked really well for the first time - I've not been a huge fan of them before this episode. Witty, intriguing, interesting, mysterious, a new (if not slightly lame) villain. Very enjoyable!

May 9, 201312 yr Author This was never posted, but Matt has confirmed that he'll be back for series eight (although it's not certain if he'll be in all of it). I have mixed views - he has been great in the past, and I do really enjoy him as The Doctor, but the show does feel like it needs a breath of fresh air at some point... Source.
May 9, 201312 yr AMAZING new imo. I don't think Matt is to blame at all for any of the issues with the show right now, last weeks episode proved that for me. His acting there was brilliant and showed, when given the right material, he can truly excel.
May 9, 201312 yr Oh dear at him being back for Series 8. :( I was hoping he'd bow out in the 2013 Christmas Special, but it appears not. The show does need a breath of fresh air - not just new episodes for Matt.
May 9, 201312 yr You know what I want, Moffat to step down after the 50th Anniversary. In theory he should have been excellent, but in practice he was totally wrong for the job.
May 9, 201312 yr You know what I want, Moffat to step down after the 50th Anniversary. In theory he should have been excellent, but in practice he was totally wrong for the job. How so? I doubt we're anywhere near the end of his era, though - because there are a lot of arcs still open that he wishes to answer before his time is up, but he has said before that won't be resolved until a while after the 50th Anniversary, so possibly Series 8 or 9. I can't see him giving the job up any time soon. He's more of an asset to the show than RTD was, anyway.
May 9, 201312 yr I had MANY issues with RTD's tenure of the show, being overly focused on emotional aspects of the story being prime among them. Those final 4 specials were largely dreadful as a result of them being as much of a wrap up of HIS time as the 10th Doctor's. I fully expected Moffat to come in and be brilliant, and for a time he was. However as his tenure has gone on the show has gradually gotten worse and worse. I'm quite certain that isn't entirely his fault but in the role he is in the buck stops with him as far as I'm concerned. The first 3 episodes of this series each sum up my issues with him perfectly. The first episode was actually quite a strong story but it felt rushed and like the story had been made to fit the lofty idea rather than coming up with an actually strong story and building an episode round that. The second episode was just an utter, utter mess and really showed that the characters are actually a little 2D right now so it's hard to actually CARE about any of them and the whole 'love' as a deus ex machina type plot device is so obscenely abysmal it would have been savaged had it been most other shows of that ilk. Episode 3 showed much more promise but the whole 'sing song' aspect was contrived and it just felt like the pieces of the puzzle were all there but totally jumbled. Again some of that is down to the writing and not him specifically but he does have a large say in the direction the show goes and for me it's fundamentally wrong right now. I LOVED the arc centric aspects of the previous 2 series and I think that totally worked but Clara feels like a carbon copy of a carbon copy and as a result, despite actually really liking HER, couldn't give a fig about her story/place in the universe. What the show needs next is someone who can take the good aspects of episodic TV like what RTD did and the good aspects of arc centric TV like S5/6 and blend the 2. I don't think Moffat is capable of that and I can only see it getting worse as his tenure continues.
