December 29, 201014 yr Author Wow :o I genuinely didn't expect to see Telephone at #1 here! It missed my top 100 although I quite loved it at the back end of last year and would have been in my top 100 of 2009. Although since the video came out and the song became overplayed, I've sort of always thought of it as one of those where the video is better than the song and I'd probably rank it as only her 5th or 6th best single personally. Beyonce definitely adds to it though, I'm far from a huge fan of hers but her verse really does add some oomph to proceedings. Nice to see Not In Love, The Cave and Dancing On My Own doing well too - all are very good. Not heard the song by The National. I didn't think it would be either, when I compiled my list I thought it'd be #3 probably, but then I listened to them all a lot this month and I realised that 'Telephone' was my favourite and deserved its 4 weeks at the top. The top 7 were well ahead of #8 IMO. The top 40/50 are all brilliant but the top 7 are all in a different class. I agree with what you say about Beyonce, I'm not a fan of her at all when she's on here own, my Beyonce top 5 would only feature one song where she's on her own; 'Irreplacable'. Glad to see you like 4 of my top 7, I doubt you'd like the National, you're more likely to like the Pains song but I wouldn't bet on it.

January 24, 201114 yr 002 The National 'Conversation 16' 10-04-01-01-01-01-01-03-03-05-07* (11 weeks) *2nd hit* *peak* HEE0OGJUE-4 History: 'Bloodbuzz Ohio' (#28, 2010) This was the hardest decision I've ever had to make to decide an End of Year number one, I wish I could've made it a joint position, I almost wish thaty 6 Music didn't promote this as a single then I wouldn't have had to make the decision. This song is perfect, stunning, elegant, beautiful, dark, emotive, haunting, pick any superlative you want and it probably fits. The National have always been a good band, and their album 'High Violet' is fantastic, but it's not until you get to track 9 that you reach its high point; 'Conversation 16'. Who knew a song about a dull and monotonous life could be so beautiful, a tale of being stuck with the same person for life and how it can turn you into a zombie; "I was afraid, I'd eat your brains, cos I'm evil". I don't think I've ever come across a song before that makes me stop and listen quite like this does, without a doubt this will be a song that remains close to me for the rest of my life. I've no doubt that this is a better song than the song above it, it's just not my favourite of the two.... By far the best lyrics I'd heard in 2010. This songs has brought a lump to my throat many times - I only discovered High Violet in Dec when the guy I'm currently obsessing about ( ) played my Runaway and England in his place. Anyway, I went away to download the album and Conversation 16 really got me. Outstanding and possibly my track of the year but because of it's newness I chose not to put at the top of my list. It ended my year at number 3.
