I loved Eliza Doolittle, she made my xmas! The Coldplay xmas song is a bit bland and boring really, the only reason they didn't promote it was probably so that when people suggest it didn't do well in the chart they can blame the lack of promotion! Thought the Cee Lo Green track was out of place on a xmas show too as all I could think of was that it was a row in song form and the alternate lyrics. But above all the one thing that stood right out to me is that as far I can recall it was the first time TOTP has made absolutely zero mention of the chart (well apart from a hurried link pointing out in passing that Matt was xmas no1!). A chart show with no charts, whatver next!
I missed the start of the show :( Didn't realise it started so early.

???? It's on between 2 and 3pm EVERY year followed by the Queen at 3.

if TOTPs was shown before xmas eve christmas lights would have rocketed up the chart, its just too late now!!im sure it will be a christmas classic in the long run though and people will be astounded it only peaked at no13 anfd the long forgotted matt cardle was no1!! :P

There was a performance of it on TOTP during the week.

I've watched Cee-Lo, Ellie, Jason , Katy Perry and Tinie , and parts of JLS, Eliza and Take That.

I have to say Tinie stole the show for me, as expected, but I loved Firework aswell. :)

Jason looked like he was big time copying Michael Jackson with his performance, I like Plan B but he looked like a wedding singer on that stage, Katy was a lot better than her X-Factor and the shocking Graham Norton (or was it Paul O'Grady)? performances. Ellie totally rocked it.
Cee-Lo Green, Ellie Goulding, Katy Perry and Jason Derulo weren't the best live singers, Eliza Doolittle, Coldplay and Tinie Tempah were the best for me, Plan B was pretty good too, not a great show overall though

you think?if chris nmartin had have performed it on the xfactor it would have risen to no1 then like terrible efforts from the BEPs did in the past month, im pretty sure of it!!

Lets be honest here TOTP as a brand is nothing these days and it couldn't even find enough artist to fill the show. it was a 'we will have on anybody we can get' show and the rest we will try and fill with random BBC performances from this year.

horrible and pretty tacky feeling to it to be frank

Ooops! Bad typo TOTP Christmas was on during the week (BBC2 Tuesday 6:30 - 8:00)

At least it looked like TOTP a bit I suppose. There was one a couple of years ago that looked like they'd borrowed the corner of a warehouse and just stuck a couple of logos on the wall. We'll be able to see how it could've been done because Five are showing TOTP Xmas 1985 today at 6:40pm! Special Guest Shaky 'Bad Jumper and twitchy limbs' Stevens!
Special Guest Shaky 'Bad Jumper and twitchy limbs' Stevens!

You'll be doing well to see him!

the Christmas 1985 show was, for some reason, recorded in late November 1985 - which saw a set which was replaced in early December 1985 (the one with X's made up of flourescent tubes...) reappear again.

The main giveaway that the show was recorded so ahead in advance is that towards the end, Peel and Janice link into "the most recent Number Ones of 1985", not referring to them by name - "I'm Your Man" and "Saving All My Love For You".

(Also, more subtly, the caption shown over the videos to both songs, as well as Feargal Sharkey's studio performance, mention "Number 1 Hit" instead of listing how many weeks the song was at number one in the charts - in the case of the other Number 1 songs featured.)

So Shaky wasn't featured, or even mentioned, as the Christmas Number One on the 1985 show - and he wasn't included on the Christmas Day 1986 episode either.

The only edition of TOTP that recognised Shaky's "Merry Christmas Everyone"'s status as Number 1 was 2.1.1986. It could simply have been a case that the chart where Shaky was announced as Number One was first announced on Christmas Eve afternoon, leaving it too late to do a last-minute edit to the show to include Shaky.

Oops soz. I just assumed the 'xmas TOTP' clip of Shaky on TOTP 2 this week was from the 1985 xmas show.
Just watching it now. Was Dixie Peach a regular presenter? I've never heard of him before, and I've looked at sites listing all TOTP presenters a few times in the past.
Cee Lo Green - F**k You!

Coldplay - Christmas Lights

Ellie Goulding - Your Song

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out

JLS - Love You More

Jason Derulo - Ridin' Solo

Olly Murs - Please Don't Let Me Go

Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song

Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up

Take That - The Flood (Children In Need Performance)

Matt Cardle - When We Collide

Love those in BOLD - the rest are crap

Made the same assumption myself! As did the Christmas issues of both the Radio Times and TV Times! :D
