S&M is very similar to Only Girl. They're both European influenced pop/dance songs, and I think S&M sounds a lot like Sexy Chick by Akon and David Guetta.

Also, what's this about Stargate ripping off deadmau5? I heard that Stargate also made Firework, but I can't see that ripping off deadmau5 in any way.

EDIT: Oh, is it Happiness? If so, I wouldn't say that's a rip-off, because it's a sample (although it would've been nice if they credited it "Alexis Jordan ft. deadmau5").

EDIT 2: I found this un-released Kylie Minogue song that also sampled Brazil (Second edit) by deadmau5.

Stargate supposedly 'produced' Happiness which as we all know is just Brazil by deadmau5.

They can make original-ish songs but OG(ITW) and Happiness are not.

Happiness never really bothered me tbh. Not as a song. Obviously the crediting, and who made the track is a different issue, but it's not really any different to how Miami 2 Ibiza was originally an instrumental, but they added Tinie's rapping on it, or how Seek Bromance was originally and instrumental called Bromance, but they put vocals on it in the end, or how I'm In Love originally only had a few male vocals throughout the song, but they added lots of female vocals for it's release, etc. It's basically the same thing.

Like if Stargate had nothing to do with it, and deadmau5 hadn't released the song beforehand. Like if he made the song, and then asked Alexis Jordan to sing on it, and that was the first version everybody heard, and deadmau5 was credited as the producer, I don't think anybody would care. Although I've probably just repeated what you're trying to say.

My annoyance is Stargate took all the credit for the production when deadmau5 did near enough all of it.

Yeah, true. All Stargate must've done is put the song is verse/chorus/bridge form.

I think it's a great song, but yeah, I wish deadmau5 was credited as a featured artist or something.

He does get a songwriter credit. I don't know if that's because of the sample or because he actually helped writing the lyrics but he doies get at least some credit.

wow, thats quite a difference between sales and position points :o

That's the unavoidable bias to earlier releases at work. It's done very well to get as high as #99.

KE$HA
“Take It Off”
from the album “Animal”
[August 2010]

Here’s the fourth single from Animal by Ke$ha. Take It Off continued Ke$ha’s ‘logical single choice’ order. In the week of Animal’s release 5 cherry-picked songs from the album charted in the UK top 200. The highest was Blah Blah Blah (feat. 3OH!3) which made #11 and was, as you already know, the second single. The second highest was Your Love Is My Drug (#63) which would go on to become the third single, This, Take It Off, was the third highest at #112 and became the fourth single. If she’d moved on to fifth and sixth singles they would have logically been Kiss N Tell (#163) and Dinosaur (#180). This song’s chorus has a very similar melody to a song called The Streets Of Cairo if I’m to believe what someone said on Yahoo! Answers. I recognise the melody from an advert but I’m not sure if that’s the same thing or not. As with all Ke$ha songs there’s a few alcohol references (‘got a water bottle full of whisky in my handbag’) and a few terrible lyrics. Yes, this is definitely Ke$ha. Two more to come from her.

Oh my gosh. Thanks so much for that! I always thought Take It Off sounded SO familiar to something, but I never knew what!

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA VS. TINIE TEMPAH
“Miami 2 Ibiza”
from the album “Until One”
[October 2010]

5-4-7-12-13-22-28-30-45-52-65-52-

~ 877 points // 12 weeks // #4 peak ~

Miami 2 Ibiza, the second single released by the trio of Swedish house DJs who could be regarded as a mafia under the collective name, er, Swedish House Mafia (Axel Hedfors/Axwell, Steve Fragogiannis/Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso), is one of my personal favourite songs of the year along with their previous single One (Your Name) (feat. Pharrell) but I’ll attempt to keep my loonery down for this commentary. They got British rapper Tinie Tempah (real name Patrick Okogwu) along for the ride too, with him rapping lyrics which were slightly more developed than the vocals in their previous single. They gave Tinie a ‘vs.’ credit, which is surprisingly rare these days - the only other 2010 hits with a ‘vs.’ in their crediting are Mika vs. RedOne’s Kick Ass and Skepta vs. N-Dubz’ So Alive which peaked at #84 and #99 respectively. Just a random bit of trivia for you there. Tinie has three of his own hits still to come in this countdown. He’s much like Lady GaGa in having four top 100 finishers but none in the 101-200 range. Anyway, it’s a fair point that this song sounds almost exactly the same as its predecessor if you take away the vocals, but when One was so good, who really cares? Swedish House Mafia’s album Until One sadly only contained the two singles under their collective name and the rest of it was filled up with solo work of the three members (both original songs and remixes) and a few completely unrelated songs such as One More Time by Daft Punk. For this reason the album wasn’t eligible for the main album chart but it did peak at #2 on the compilations chart. I was personally disappointed when I found out they only recorded 2 songs as Swedish House Mafia. The first two singles both had numbers in the title if you didn’t notice and I was looking forward to hearing Three, Four, Five etc. Ah well. This song entered the charts at #5 after a relatively slow start in the week. Possibly because of this it didn’t peak until its second week. Unfortunately its top 40 run was cut short after just eight weeks, the same amount of time One (Your Name) spent in the top 20.

Miami 2 Ibiza is an absolutely incredible song. It's so good. Just like how it builds up to the "chorus"! Just wow.

And Tinie's rapping is total lol. Seeing how many abbreviations he can fit into one sentence. And the bit after 1:40 sounds SO good!!!

That song is just so good though. When it's played loud, you just have to dance and go insane! Doesn't matter if it's embarrassing, the music is just too good!

One of the best songs of the year, imo.

This was number 13 in my top 100 songs this year, One (Your Name) only reached number 19. They are basically the same song, but I love Tinie Tempah's rapping. Oh and whenever I listen to One it has to be the instrumental. Pharrell ruins the song for me and the instrumental version was the one hitting clubs and the song wasn't made for vocals whereas they made 'Miami 2 Ibiza' so that Tinie Tempah could rap over it.

The instrumental of M2I isn't very good anyway it has way too long an intro, it only works with Tinie

Yeah, I have an instrumental version of Miami 2 Ibiza too. It's fantastic, but it takes sooo long to get to the good bit. The outro is similar too. I never listen to it right until the end. I just want the middle 4 minutes and 49 seconds to be on repeat the whole time.

PIXIE LOTT
“Gravity”
from the album “Turn It Up”
[February 2010]

73-43-35-33-26-23-20-26-23-33-41-43-54-68-91-x

~ 883 points // 15 weeks // #20 peak ~

So Pixie’s highest entry on this chart is her lowest peaking single. That makes sense. (Although to be fair three of her five other singles peaked in 2009 - this has still finished higher than 2010 peaking #11 hit Turn It Up and #12 hit Broken Arrow). Gravity is a fairly good ballady song, much like its predecessor Cry Me Out. The chorus is largely made up of her repeating the title over and over. It makes Keri Hilson’s Energy spring to mind. Not that Pixie Lott and Keri Hilson have anything in common though. They don’t, other than the fact they’re both female. It peaked at #20 as you can see above. Follow-up Turn It Up only really did as well as it did due to Britain’s Got Talent hence its shorter chart run. I have nothing else to say about this song.

Anyway, that's it for today, I'll *try* to get to at least #91 tomorrow but I'm making no promises. Hopefully the weekend will see a bit more progress on this thing. I was projecting to have finished it 2 days ago  And I'm only up to #96

Edited by ★BlindFaithBray★

I've heard a lot of people compare Gravity to No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. I guess because because of the OTT female screaming throughout the song, the synth-strings, and they're both ballads. Of course, since Pyramid by Charice and Iyaz came out, suddenly No Air and Grativy don't seem so similar.

THE BLACK EYED PEAS
“Rock That Body”
from the album “The E.N.D.”
[March 2010]

43-23-15-11-12-14-17-23-32-40-57-71-80-95-94-x

~ 888 points // 15 weeks // #11 peak ~

The first three singles from The Black Eyed Peas’ fifth studio album The E.N.D. were all UK #1s leading some to believe Rock That Body would also be a #1 (it would have been their fifth). It did even better, becoming two #1s! Well, it peaked at #11 is what I mean. It was only their second single since Where Is The Love? to miss the UK top 10, the other being Let’s Get Retarded (also known by its less offensive title Let’s Get It Started) which was also a #11 hit back in 2004. Strangely, all of their top 100 hits since Where Is The Love? have either a single-digit peak, or a double-digit one where both digits are the same - their non-top-10 hits were 2 #11s, a #55 (Imma Be, the flop fifth single from The E.N.D.) and a #88 (Alive, released as a ‘promo single’ for the album on an iTunes countdown alongside Imma Be and later third single Meet Me Halfway). Anyway, Rock That Body didn’t get its own music video, instead forming the second half of the video of Imma Be. The full video is titled Imma Be Rocking That Body. The video above is just the second half of it but you can find the whole thing on YouTube with a simple search. They did a dual video presumably to save some money as they released Imma Be in the USA while they released Rock That Body here. Imma Be gave the group a third US #1 from The E.N.D. (and, indeed, overall) but when it was later released here it only reached #55. Rock That Body was released in the USA at around the same time and got to #9, the fifth top 10 hit from the album.

I still can't believe Imma Be missed the top 40... People kept saying "Oh, but it's the 5th single". Let's not be stupid here, only a couple of months before it got to #1 on US iTunes. I'm sure it could've gone, at the very least, top 40!. :(

Also, Let's Get it Started is so popular now for a song that only peaked at #11! :o Just goes to show really!

MARK RONSON AND THE BUSINESS INTL FEAT. Q-TIP AND MNDR
“Bang Bang Bang”
from the album “Record Collection”
[July 2010]

6-6-11-15-18-25-31-39-53-66-68-43-56-92-97-x

~ 889 points // 15 weeks // #6 peak ~

This is the second appearance of ‘Alouette’, as I mentioned in the commentary for Promise This by Cheryl Cole. Bang Bang Bang was the first single to be released by British music producer Mark Ronson with the band The Business Intl, which may or may not be a non-existent entity which is a general term for the featured guests on the album Record Collection. I can’t find much information on ‘The Business Intl’ online. If it is a general term for featured guests, The Business Intl consist of US rapper Q-Tip (real name Jonathan Davies) and US electronic music duo MNDR (Amanda Warner, Peter Wade) on this song. Bang Bang Bang was a far cry from the material on Mark Ronson’s previous cover album Version and seemed less commercial. This move to a less commercial sound was reflected by the song only making #6 compared to the #2 peaks of previous singles Stop Me (feat. Daniel Merriweather) and Valerie (feat. Amy Winehouse). Follow-up single The Bike Song (feat. Kyle Falconer and Spank Rock) and third single Somebody To Love Me (feat. Boy George and Andrew Wyatt) fared less well peaking at #17 and #55 respectively. The album Record Collection failed to get #1, instead peaking at #2 and falling quickly. Bang Bang Bang did have a pretty good chart run though, so that’s fine. In the first midweek chart update on this song’s week of release it showed up at #2, leading to people thinking Mark could get a third #2 peaker and be well on his way to being the new Sash! (who had 5 #2 hits but no #1s) or it could even get him to #1, which would have been Q-Tip’s first #1 very nearly 20 years after he first hit the singles chart with 1990 #47 hit Bonita Applebum (as part of the group A Tribe Called Quest). But, alas, it ended up falling to #6 over the week.

RIHANNA
“Russian Roulette”
from the album “Rated R”
[December 2009]

-8-13-19-25-24-31-37-46-50-54-61-62-65-58-72-91-x

This song came as a bit of a surprise to many people. Rihanna’s 2009 fourth studio album Rated R was expected to be at least nearly as big as Good Girl Gone Bad, her third studio album. When it came the time for the big premiere of her comeback single most people expected it to be an uptempo song, but instead it was… er, this. Russian Roulette. Yeah. It didn’t get #1 as was widely expected, instead stalling at #2 behind Peter Kay’s Animated All Star Band’s 2009 Children In Need single The Official BBC Children In Need Medley. Follow-up and more uptempo single Rude Boy (which is still to come in this countdown) nearly got her a fourth #1 but again peaked at #2. The album Rated R also fell well short of expectations, peaking at a low #9, albeit with good sales. Her more recent fifth studio album Loud has done much better, likely because the lead single was actually uptempo. Rihanna ballads tend to not be very good with the notable exception of Unfaithful. Leading off an album with one was never going to be a good idea really. There are still two more Rihanna singles and another song she featured on to come. Thankfully all three are far better than this. This song came 99th on the Top 100 Downloads of All Time.
