December 28, 201014 yr Halo/Walking On Sunshine is by far the best Glee song imo, and the only one I still listen to apart from Like a Prayer and Total Eclipse of the Heart, which are also very good. Also, they played Halo/Walking On Sunshine in Tesco on Christmas Eve. All the panicked shoppers seemed to be enjoying it. :D Edited December 28, 201014 yr by Eric_Blob
December 28, 201014 yr Author #155 RIHANNA FEAT. DRAKE “What’s My Name?” from the album “Loud” [November 2010] 18-10-8-4-2-2- U0CGsw6h60k ~ 562 points // 6 weeks // #2 peak ~ One of the more recent hits on the list and also one of the more fabulous, What’s My Name? is the first appearance of a fair few by Barbadian singer Rihanna (real name Robyn Fenty), the ex-girlfriend of Chris Brown I mentioned earlier. The second single from the album Loud, it holds the curious distinction of being the only second single to ever top the US Billboard Hot 100 before the first single from the album. While What’s My Name? went straight to #1 on download sales (technically climbing 60-1 but it was basically a début) the first single Only Girl (In The World) took its time building up enough airplay to make the US #1 a few weeks later. That song will be one of the other Rihanna entries in this countdown. The song’s popularity in the USA led to it making #18 in the first week of the album’s release and it has recently gone as high as #2, aided by a performance on (yet again) the X Factor. It could very well climb to #1 at some point in 2011 but as it stands it’s Rihanna’s eighth different #2 hit in just six years. She also has 4 #1s (one a year since 2007) to make up for it though. The song features Drake who says the peculiar lyric ‘the square root of 69 is 8 something, right? ‘cus I’ve been tryna work it out’. It’s around 8.307, Aubrey.
December 28, 201014 yr Author #154 KINGS OF LEON “Radioactive” from the album “Come Around Sundown” [October 2010] 7-14-14-26-34-45-63-73-88-92-x(1)-87- -IAxoqoqJ44 ~ 568 points // 11 weeks // #7 peak ~ After scoring two enormous hits from fourth album Only By The Night (which was itself huge, selling over 2.5 million copies) it was widely assumed Kings Of Leon (Nathan Followill, Caleb Followill, Jared Followill, Matthew Followill) would cruise to a second #1 single with whatever their comeback was. However, the US rock band came back with something less ‘stadium rock anthem’ and more to their gospel-ish roots and only made #7 with Radioactive. Note how 2008 single Sex On Fire is ahead of this on this countdown. Their fifth studio album Come Around Sundown did give them a third #1 in the album chart, but it missed out on the top 10 in the Year End album chart, or the one sent out by Radio 1 anyway, which is likely to be wrong as it’s been broadcast a week early for some reason.
December 28, 201014 yr Author #153 BOYZONE “Gave It All Away” from the album “Brother” [March 2010] 9-20-29-10-22-30-47-66-86-x 9n8fxrejX78 ~ 590 points // 9 weeks // #9 peak ~ I don’t think it’s too offensive of me to say the only reason this song and its parent album Brother exist is because Irish boyband Boyzone (Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, Shayne Leach) wanted to capitalise off the death of band member Stephen Gately. It didn’t really work, as the song became only their 2nd single to miss the top 5 (after 2008 #22 hit Better) and the follow-up Love Is A Hurricane became their first single to miss the top 40, peaking at just #44. The album Brother didn’t do badly though, spending 3 non-consecutive weeks at the #1 spot. This song has a rather peculiar chart run. It entered the chart at #9 and initially plummetted but then randomly made an about turn and nearly outpeaked itself, climbing back to #10 after being featured on a TV special. It then plummetted again.
December 28, 201014 yr Author #152 N-DUBZ “Say It’s Over” from the album “Against All Odds” [March 2010] 93-50-40-27-27-30-20-31-46-66-89-x u-V1l8L5oEg ~ 592 points // 11 weeks // #20 peak ~ Ignore what it says in the video title, this song does not in fact feature Skepta at all. It does, obviously, have N-Dubz on it. This song was the third and last single from their second studio album Against All Odds and it gave them another top 20 hit. Not much to comment on here. There are still a couple more N-Dubz songs to come, one each from their second and third albums.
December 28, 201014 yr Author #151 MCFLY FEAT. TAIO CRUZ “Shine A Light” from the album “Above The Noise” [November 2010] 4-9-15-15-19-24-20- x8zlZpG5OkE ~ 601 points // 7 weeks // #4 peak ~ This song was unnaturally successful for UK boyband McFly (Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter). McFly have pretty much since they first came out been used to having their singles enter somewhere in the top 5 then drop out of the chart very quickly. The first single from fifth studio album Above The Noise seemed to continue this trend but not in the top 5, only making #6 and spending only 3 weeks in the top 40. Second single Shine A Light however, featuring British singer Taio Cruz, has shown great longevity. Its climb from 24 to 20 in its seventh week on the chart is astonishingly only the second time McFly have ever climbed within the top 40 after their peak, the other time being when Room On The 3rd Floor climbed 35-29 on the chart W/E 1 Jan 2005. This song was recently promoted by one point due to an OCC error printing its position one place too low. Right, I've actually stuck to doing all 25 today. It's taken forever, but I've done it. That's all you're getting for today. :D Edited June 9, 201114 yr by Bray
December 28, 201014 yr Author What a good way to have yourself extra 200 to your post count! :D Yup ^_^ At least it's not as bad as the 2 Dannyboy countdowns where he insisted on a separate post for each of 500 different songs, adding 1,000 posts.

December 29, 201014 yr Author Well, because of the news there was a slight error in the chart this week, The X Factor Finalists 2010 have been knocked down a place and Olly Murs climb back up one with Thinking Of Me. No other changes yet but we don't know if there are other changes between 41 and 100 yet.

Im not that sad to do it just to get post either than you very much. If im gonna spend months doing something then why shouldnt I do it that way. December 29, 201014 yr I've got no problem with it, I was just pointing out to Pavel that my countdown isn't the most extreme example of it is all. :P Anyway, this countdown will continue at 4pm (if I remember). Ah well. I suppose mine could be classed as an extreme example of a countdown but so be it lol
December 29, 201014 yr Ta very much for the countdown. To be honest, I'm more into sales-based charts, but I'm really enjoying reading your commentaries for all the entries as well as the chart runs for each track. You've clearly put a lot of work in and I, for one, appreciate it. So thanks again!
December 29, 201014 yr Author Right, so there are a few more tiny changes to the chart which make no difference at all to the positions. 1 point has been added to these songs: Eminem - Not Afraid Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire Journey - Don't Stop Believin' 1 point has been removed from these songs: Kylie Minogue - Better Than Today Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow - Shame Lady GaGa - Bad Romance All but one of these (Better Than Today) are in the top 150 anyway. Countdown will resume shortly. Edited December 29, 201014 yr by ★ 2011 Bray ★
December 29, 201014 yr Author #150 WILL.I.AM AND NICKI MINAJ “Check It Out” from the album “Pink Friday” [November 2010] 11-17-19-22-25-28-38-40- pqky5B179nM ~ 608 points // 8 weeks // #11 peak ~ Although the crediting of this song lists will.i.am (real name William Adams) as the first artist, it was actually released as a single from the album Pink Friday by Nicki Minaj (real name Onika Maraj). Probably because Minaj is not exactly a big name here, her highest peaking single as the lead artist being the #71 hit Your Love. Anyhow, this song just missed the top 10 for the US rapper/singer/Black Eyed Pea and the female US rapper but has nonetheless had a very consistent chart run and made the top 150 (barely). A ‘Special Mix’ of the track which claims to feature friend of will.i.am Cheryl Cole exists although her contribution is negligible. An edited version of the video with Cheryl copy-and-pasted in also exists. Another collaboration between will.i.am and Cheryl Cole will be coming later in the countdown.
December 29, 201014 yr Author #149 THE WANTED “Heart Vacancy” from the album “The Wanted” [October 2010] 2-9-14-23-27-31-50-72-99-74- FCrfFKAqEPw ~ 609 points // 10 weeks // #2 peak ~ Also opting to follow the ‘upbeat song / standard ballad / album release’ strategy I’ve dubbed the ‘JLS strategy’ are fellow UK boyband The Wanted (Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, Nathan Sykes). This song is the second single, so sure enough it’s just a standard boyband ballad. Their far more interesting first single All Time Low is still to come. Unlike JLS, The Wanted don’t have their roots in reality TV but that doesn’t suddenly make them super credible as they are still very much a manufactured band put together by a record label to make some money. They haven’t failed in this goal, the group just missing out on two consecutive #1 singles, but they’re still a long way off the success of JLS. They even copied JLS by making six different ‘versions’ of their self-titled début album available, one with all five members on the front cover and five ‘versions’ with different slipcases with individual pictures of each member (the content on the actual album was identical in all cases). This marketing trick didn’t quite work though and the album only made #4.
December 29, 201014 yr Author #148 FAR*EAST MOVEMENT FEAT. THE CATARACS AND DEV “Like A G6” from the album “Free Wired” [November 2010] 51-6-7-5-6-11-10- w4s6H4ku6ZY ~ 611 points // 7 weeks // #5 peak ~ Despite their name this 4-piece electro-hop group is not from the far east, they’re just yet another US group. Far*East Movement (Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, DJ Virman) can claim some far east ancestry though, each member of the group having ancestry from a different far east country/peninsula - Japan, China, Korea and the Philippines are all represented. Like A G6, a song which is literally about drinking and nothing else, was a #1 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was therefore fully expected to carry that over to the UK. In actuality it’s only managed a peak of #5 so far and its chart run has mimicked that of Ke$ha’s TiK ToK fairly closely. That song was also a massive #1 in the USA, but only peaked at #4 here. It opened up at #6 (for two weeks) before falling to #7 (for three weeks) and then climbing up to #5 (for one week). The next week it dropped to #11 but it climbed back to #10 the following week and finally peaked at #4 the next week. As you can see Like A G6 has done a similar thing so far. Perhaps it’ll repeak in January 2011. This song entered the chart slightly prematurely at #51 due to being made available part way through the week as a result of a ‘tribute’ version of the song being made available by an unrelated ‘artist’ and this version reaching the top 20 on iTunes. The song also features the strangely named US duo The Cataracs (Cyrano, Campa) whose genre is described on Wikipedia as ‘electro-hop/indie-pop’. The chorus is sampled from the song Booty Bounce by US female singer Dev (full name Devin Tailes) and Far*East Movement were kind enough to give her an official credit. A G6 is a kind of jet if anyone is still wondering about that.
December 29, 201014 yr Author #147 LEONA LEWIS “I Got You” from the album “Echo” [February 2010] 96-62-40-14-19-25-32-36-45-52-71-x 5GIkw4Ij5Fk ~ 619 points // 11 weeks // #14 peak ~ And here’s yet another artist originating from the X Factor! Leona Lewis, however, can hold the claim to being the only X Factor contestant to have tasted fame outside of the British Isles. Her single Bleeding Love was #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for four non-consecutive weeks in 2008 and it’s sold over 4,000,000 downloads over there. It was also #1 in over 30 other countries (including the UK obviously, where it was #1 for 7 weeks in 2007 and recently passed the 1,000,000 sales mark) and parent album Spirit was also a huge success internationally. Unfortunately, she couldn’t keep up her outside-UK-and-Ireland profile for long, Bleeding Love remaining her only smash hit worldwide. 2009 comeback single Happy was a huge flop internationally. Interest in her has died off a lot here as well. Second album Echo still sold well and reached #1 but sold a lot less than Spirit overall. Happy didn’t give her a 4th #1 single here, instead peaking at #2 and dropping quickly, and this, the follow-up single I Got You, missed the top 10. Poor Leona. December 29, 201014 yr Author #146 MCLEAN “My Name” stand-alone single [March 2010] 10-13-18-20-21-29-34-52-73-x d1uqlUaDawg ~ 639 points // 9 weeks // #10 peak ~ McLean (full name Anthony McLean) released this, first proper single My Name, just as the big hype for UK black males was starting to fade. Had he released it near the end of last year it would almost certainly have been a top 5 hit. As it stands, it just scraped into the top 10, much like another single which McLean featured on (but wasn’t given an individual credit), charity ensemble Young Soul Rebels’ 2009 #10 hit I Got Soul, which raised money for the charity War Child and was most notable for the fact that it sampled The Killers’ 2004 #18 hit All These Things That I’ve Done. There’s not a lot to comment on on this song. It’s quite dull really. McLean is the nephew of singer Bitty McLean whose biggest hit was the 1993 #2 hit It Keeps Rainin’ (Tears From My Eyes) - thanks to N-S for pointing that out.
