December 30, 201014 yr just realised I've forgotten to include McFly and Taio's Shine a Light, it should be 108th, so everything behind it is pushed down a place, luckily it wont affect the top 20 I was going to say you missed another one out as there are 152 top 10 hits this year, but then I realised Lights On wouldn't be in this.
December 30, 201014 yr Author OK so lets get 14-11 done now: starting with: 14. Ellie Goulding · 'Starry Eyed' [1-2-2-2-3-x] [ 186 Points ] PULdPep_xfs so we have the second and last entry for UK singer/songwriter and the winner of the prestigious (although not always accurate) BBC Sound of 2010 poll, Ellie Goulding and her debut release and first top 10 hit, Sound of 2010 is a big thing to look up to so has she done well? well, her album made number 1, although had a bit of a fall afterwards, but then maintained some stability, her next two singles fared less well, with Guns And Horses peaking at a disappointing number 26, The Writer faring slightly better peaking at number 19- however, where it was looking like she wouldn't get a hot again- her cover of Elton John's classic Your Song which made number 7 here in 1970, was used in John Lewis' advert and sent the song flying to number 2 where she got her highest charting single, the song has become a big seller-as a fan of hers, I must admit it is a shame that she didn't have this success with her original material, as I have her album, but its still success- so overall, she's done very well, if not as big as certain other acts her first song was a very euphoric and appealing number which got her off to a good start and would appeal to a wide audience, including BJ members - the song reached number 4 in March, this came off the back off winning the Critics Choice Award 2010 at the BRITs the next entry may be quite surprising to a few of you Edited December 30, 201014 yr by chart wizard
December 30, 201014 yr Author 13. Eminem Feat. Rihanna · 'Love The Way You Lie' [5-5-3-4-3-5-3-2-1-2-3-3-4-6-x] [ 194 Points ] uelHwf8o7_U so, we have what looks set to be the biggest selling single of the year, on this chart, however it comes in at a still strong number 13, the song was Eminem's second release to Not Afraid, which was a decent sized hit for him peaking at number 5 in May, however, to get a HUGE smash? well, do what 3OH!3 did, take a massive female US star, coupled with himself who is already a huge US star, plus some huge US stars for the video- and indeed, it was probably the biggest collaboration hit of the year worldwide the most notable thing about the song of course is that it never officially reached number 1 here, going no higher than number 2 losing to We No Speak Americano, Green Light and Club Can't Handle Me- it could be that a big release got in its way all the time, either way it went on to spend 14 weeks in the top 10 (the third longest top 10 run of the 2000s, behind Shakira's Hips Don't Lie in 2006 and Black Eyed Peas- I Gotta Feeling in 2009 ) looks likely to make history by being the first best selling single of the year ever to not make number 1, maybe proving an example that number 1 isn't everything, as most of you know, I was never keen on this, so I wasn't too happy about it hanging around for ages, whether it would've been more moderately successful or liked on here had Rihanna not featured on it is a query we can think on, but the facts are facts- it deserves credit for breaking a record, it was also the highest charting album track ever as it was not confirmed as the second single until well into its chart run it of course rests as Eminem's best selling song yet- outselling 2000's Stan, and also best selling for Rihanna- whom the most she has was previously 2007's long runner Umbrella, it stands as Eminem's sixteenth top 10 hit since his debut, where only three have officially missed the top 10, it is also Rihanna's eleventh- although she would have further success later in the year Edited December 31, 201014 yr by chart wizard
December 30, 201014 yr Author 12. Lady GaGa · 'Alejandro' [1-1-4-1-x] [ 207 Points ] niqrrmev4mA so we have here a woman that has been a talking point from the moment she arrived- Lady Gaga, this song was her sixth top 10 hit, the run of top 10 hits broken by LoveGame which peaked at 19 in late 2009, it was her lowest charting top 10 hit since she started- so its only fitting that its the lowest charting of her three songs in the top 20 here, albeit at a still very good number 12- I shall save most of her commentary for when her higher hits come but I shall end on the question- why does the man she is addressing in the chorus have three names? the song that has just missed the top 10 may surprise some of you Edited December 30, 201014 yr by chart wizard
December 30, 201014 yr Author 11. Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg · 'California Gurls' · [2-1-3-2-1-2-1] · [ 209 Points ] F57P9C4SAW4 so whilst a lot of you were predicting a top 5 easy finish for this- California Gurls doesn't come anywhere close, points wise or positions wise- even with seven weeks top 10 nonetheless, this was still probably Buzzjack's summer anthem of 2010 - what made this song so successful? the lyrics were awful, the melody ripped off Ke$ha's Tik Tok and it was quite a silly, almost novelty theme and video - however, the undoubted main appeal of the song was that it was THE song of the summer, it soundtracked every possible holiday, school break-up or summery hot day and you can just see it being played off a 'summer highlights 2010' montage and for that reason, released at perfectly the right time, it sold by the bucketload- having one of the the biggest first week sales, admittedly it doesn't sound as good now we are in the cold- but I still like it a novelty sort of way of course it was probably Katy Perry's biggest ever hit- spending two weeks at number 1 and a consistent seller- her second UK number 1 in the UK following the also rather novelty sounding I Kissed A Girl and her third top 5 hit, of course the songs fun, poppy nature captured the people of Buzzjack's hearts and it had three separate runs at the top of the reshuffle chart, it started what was a very good year for the US singer, this was Snoop Dogg's first number 1 both as a featured performer and lead vocals- indeed seven of his nine top 10 singles come from being a featured artist- the only top 10s he has had as a lead vocalist are Signs which reached number 2 in 2005 and featured Justin Timberlake and Charlie Wilson and Drop It Like Its Hot which reached number 10 and featured Pharrel- sometimes, a little help from your friends is all you need Edited December 30, 201014 yr by chart wizard
December 30, 201014 yr Author so the top 10 of 2010 are: B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams- Airplanes Lady Gaga- Bad Romance Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce- Telephone Katy Perry Firework Kelis- Acapella Owl City- Fireflies Rihanna- Only Girl (In The World) Rihanna- Rude Boy Taio Cruz- Dynamite Timbaland feat. Katy Perry- If We Ever Meet Again I'll leave you to speculate, top 10 will start at some point tomorrow afternoon, I hope to get this finished before 10 tomorrow, so until tomorrow guys, see you round :D Edited December 30, 201014 yr by chart wizard
December 30, 201014 yr Starry Eyed is amazing, as is Love the Way You Lie, as is Alejandro! And to prove I'm reading you paragraphs, I think Not Afraid peaked at #5 (for 3 non-consecutive weeks), not at #3, and it also spent *only* 14 weeks in the top 10, not 16. Although I read somewhere that 14 weeks is the 3rd longest run in the top 10 in the past 10 years or something, after I Gotta Feeling and another song (maybe Hips Don't Lie?). It also almost broke the record for the most weeks in a row selling over 50,000, making it amongst the most consistent selling songs of all-time. It's also the highest charting album track of all time, as it was confirmed as the second single from Recovery a few weeks after it started charting. About Alejandro, I think Gaga references 3 different names because the song's about her being chased by a group of latin men or something? I don't know what it's about really, as I only have the instrumental on my mp3 player. I think Gaga is insanely overrated tbh, but I like this song, for its strong European influences, and is also an incredible example of effective sampling, which certain other artists should learn from *coughjlscough*. It's just got an amazing beat, and whilst I definitely don't think it deserves to be the 3rd most played song of the year on the radio, it is still a good song in its own right.
December 30, 201014 yr Author Not Afraid did get to number 5 yes- Dam Wikipedia! :P  and I'm not sure how I got that chart run confused, thanks for that and I've added some extra information I never knew Alejandro was about that :o
December 30, 201014 yr Final Prediction: 1 - Rihanna "Only Girl (In The World)" 2 - Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce "Telephone" 3 - Katy Perry "Firework" 4 - Lady GaGa "Bad Romance" 5 - Owl City "Fireflies" 6 - B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams "Airplanes" 7 - Taio Cruz "Dynamite" 8 - Rihanna "Rude Boy" 9 - Kelis "Acapella" 10 - Timbaland feat. Katy Perry "If We Ever Meet Again" Some shocks, especially "California Gurls" and "Love The Way You Lie" missing top ten. It's also a suprise to see Kelis "Acapella" in the top ten.
December 30, 201014 yr I'm not surprised about Acapella being top 10 to be honest. It was very popular, and is a very good song. One of the classiest songs of the year imo. Infact, if I remember correctly, it managed to get joint #1 with Telephone, so it must've been huge! Also, I think California Gurls, Airplanes, Love the Way You Lie and Alejandro suffered a lot from being in the top 10 at the same time. Those songs probably would've won every week if they were in the top 10 around the time when Nothin' On You was #1.
December 31, 201014 yr Author bit later than I planned sorry but lets do this $h!t: 10. Timbaland Feat. Katy Perry · 'If We Ever Meet Again' · [1-1-2-3-3-x] · [ 209 Points ] KDKva-s_khY so beating herself into the top 10 as a featured vocalist on more 5s received on its highest scoring week is If We Ever Meet Again by Timbaland, the man has used what clearly is the winning formula to both get yourself a huge smash and fans on Buzzjack- get a huge US female star on featuring vocals - and this was indeed that smash after the modestly performing Morning After Dark which reached number 6 at the end of last year, this song climbed all the way to number 3 in February and spent thirteen weeks in the top 40, it also stands as Timbalands biggest hit since Apologise in 2007 which first got US rock band OneRepublic noticed, his biggest hit position and sales wise remains to be the grammatically incorrect the Way I Are, the first appearance in the charts from Keri Hilson, Timbaland really does define the term 'I get by with a little help from my friends', all of his sixteen top 40 hits he has featured on have never once been solely him on lead vocals Edited December 31, 201014 yr by chart wizard
December 31, 201014 yr You've got your facts mixed up a bit in the comment for LTWYL. IGF had 17 weeks, HDL 16 weeks and LTWYL 14 weeks.
December 31, 201014 yr Author 9. Katy Perry · 'Firework' [3-3-2-2-2-1] [ 217 Points ] QGJuMBdaqIw so after five top 20 appearances, one would assume that she would have at least one top 5 hit- not so, her last appearance in the chart comes in at number 9- and its with her third release which, thanks to a boost from an X Factot performance, became her third consecutive top 3 hit from this era, peaking at number 3, following California Gurls which reached number 1, and Teenage Dream which reached number 2- which does indeed give her the unique pattern of 1-2-3 for three consecutive singles, the song was somewhat the most meaningful of her three releases, with lyrics about finding your inner spark and for me, it was one of the best songs she has recorded, the positions of her three singles is oddly reflected in Firework's reshuffle run- it took a while to get to number 1 here a bit like Teenage Dream (although it was less surprisingly beaten by Only Girl) all things considered, Ms Perry-Brand has had an incredible year, and arguably the top female of the year - with a number 1 album to match her singles record, she also got engaged to comedian Russell Brand, which could lead her to share her name with the comedian entitled Katy Brand. December 31, 201014 yr bit later than I planned sorry but lets do this $h!t: 10. Timbaland Feat. Katy Perry · 'If We Ever Meet Again' · [1-1-2-3-3-x] · [ 209 Points ] Timbaland really does define the term 'I get by with a little help from my friends', all of his sixteen top 40 hits he has featured on have never once been solely him on lead vocals ...and for that we should be truly thankful. :P Although Timbaland didn't sound bad on this track which is a wonder. I personally don't like the gruff harsh sounding vocals Timbaland and more especially Ja Rule are capable of creating. It's almost as if they recorded a dog barking and later autotuned/voice filtered the "woof" sample into a males voice. :( Out of interest, how well did 'Bad Romance' do last year? If it was the Reshuffle #1 of 2009, that would be some feat if Lady GaGa managed it two years running with the same track. The only other song that could win this is 'Only Girl (In The World)' but only because I don't think the others had as many weeks top 10 therefore not enough weeks to build up its overall points tally.
December 31, 201014 yr Author 8. Taio Cruz · 'Dynamite' [1-1-1-1-2-3-3] [ 217 Points ] VUjdiDeJ0xg now theres a surprise! a solo male artist with no female aid with a song about celebrating at clubs and 'blowing them up' getting top 10 and staying at number 1 for three weeks on BUZZJACK! :o the general response I got on here was that is was 'generic' with 'terrible lyrics' and I assumed it wasn't going to be popular on here - yet it kept, Katy Perry, yes, KATY PERRY off the top spot here and went on to totally outdo her points-wise- it was honestly one of the shocks of the year for me, a silly but altogether fun club anthem that would sound great anywhere at summer, it was very much deserving of all its 217 points obviously, on the official chart, this was always going to be a smash, becoming Taio's second number 1, comfortable outselling and outrunning 2009's Break Your Heart and almost matching this success in the states and a huge hit worldwide- effectively, Taio's biggest hit by a mile - of course, Taio wasn't always like this, it took a while for Taio to get going chart wise- of his first five releases, two scraped the top 20, two scraped the top 30, and one (a collaboration with Luciana on her only other top 10 hit following her singing for Bodyrox, who appeared earlier in the chart with N-Dubz) which reached the top 5- when Break Your Heart came in 2009 it gave him his first taste of a number 1 and went on to break America with a little help from Ludacris, Dynamite truly transformee him into a worldwide urban star and Taio bests Katy even when he's not up against her- Dynamite finishes above Firework due to more number of 5's on its highest scoring week Edited December 31, 201014 yr by chart wizard
December 31, 201014 yr Author It's still wrong in the comment though? :P 'either way it went on to spend 14 weeks in the top 10 (the third longest top 10 run of the 2000s, behind Shakira's Hips Don't Lie in 2006 and Black Eyed Peas- I Gotta Feeling in 2009 ) looks likely to make history by being the first best selling single of the year ever to not make number 1' I did edit it about half an hour ago about it being one off BEPs if thats what your referring too Out of interest, how well did 'Bad Romance' do last year? If it was the Reshuffle #1 of 2009, that would be some feat if Lady GaGa managed it two years running with the same track. The only other song that could win this is 'Only Girl (In The World)' but only because I don't think the others had as many weeks top 10 therefore not enough weeks to build up its overall points tally. it was 2nd last year behind Paparazzi- its still to come though, so if it is number 1, she would've won both :P
December 31, 201014 yr Author 7. B.o.B Feat. Hayley Williams · 'Airplanes' [2-2-1-2-1-5-4-3-3-x] [ 228 Points ] kn6-c223DUU so with his second and final appearance in the chart, it is no surprise to see his duet with Hayley Williams higher than his duet with Bruno Mars on Buzzjack, however, this was by far his biggest hit of the year and one of the best selling songs of the year- a far more meaningful song than his first release, whilst it wasn't very original, is made memorable by Hayley Williams' emotional vocal and stands as one of the years best songs of its genre- reaching number 1 in July,. It gave B.o.B his second number 1 and continued what was a very good year for the newcomer- Hayley Williams meanwhile has never had anywhere close to this amount of success before with her band Paramore despite being around for three years, the highest they have reached is 14 with Ignorance in 2009, and have only had another two top 40 hits to their name (Misery Business got there on two occasions), B.o.B's duet with Bruno clearly gave the singer quite a career boost when he hit number 1 with his first solo release, whether this song can get Paramore a first top 10 hit, remains to be seen
