Posted January 1, 201114 yr Top 10 Worst Films Of 2010 10 | A Nightmare On Elm Street http://www.watchnewmoviesonlinelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/A-Nightmare-on-Elm-Street-Katie-Cassidy-as-Kris-21-2-2010.jpg At #10 on my worst films list, is a film I sort of enjoyed on the first viewing - in a cheap horror way, and the fact that I adore the original film and the idea/premise behind it. On second viewing, I had decided it was completely shocking. The 'updated' Freddy looked ridiculous and not scary in the slightest, they kill off the best actress in this trainwreck first, the updated death scenes looked overdone (i.e, where Freddy pushes himself through the wall of the bedroom), not to mention the main girl in it brings a whole new meaning to 'wooden acting', she showed no emotion, no depth, and in fact by the end of it I wanted her to get killed brutally by Freddy. 09 | Letters To Juliet http://watchletterstojuliet.com/images/watch-letters-to-juliet-online.jpg At #09, is the Amanda Seyfried led romcom, 'Letters To Juliet'. The plot is fairly simple, she goes to Italy to find her true love and finds an unanswered 'letter to Juliet', one of the many left at Verona's courtyard ... or some $h!t like that. She meets a elderly woman who she believes it may be adressed to, and travels with her and her son to find the man who sent it to her. I think you can pretty much guess where it goes from there, this movie brings a whole new term to the word predictable. It's not even comedic, well hardly anyway, I found it to be one of those silly romance films which is almost too sickly on romance, it's nauseating. Amanda Seyfried does do a good job to be fair, but she hasn't been given much to work with. Also the male lead, who is american's, british accent is just appalling tbh. 08 | The Last Song http://0.tqn.com/d/movies/1/0/p/J/V/thelastsong19.jpg At #08, is Miley Cyrus' first lead in a movie that isn't Hannah Montana! And tries to show her 'serious' acting role .... which quite obviously does not work at all, and just comes across as far too try hard throughout. In fact, that's a way to describe the whole movie, try hard, trying far too hard to make you cry with obvious 'sad' storylines, the father having cancer, a relationship tearing apart, a divorce underway and the children generally being alone ... except it only makes you cry in agony at how painful it is. The only saving graces in this film is Liam Hemsworth being shirtless for almost throughout it, oh and the little boy does show some decent acting for a child and is probably the best actor in the entire movie. 07 | StreetDance 3D http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/movies-mark-adams/css/streetdance3d16052010.jpg At #07, we have the first of two 3D dance films, this being the ever so slightly more bearable of the two. It really is generic as anything, it seems to have researched pretty much every dance film ever made and just got the basic idea off of them and used it for it's plotline. Basically, a streetdance crew want to use a ballet place as their staging/rehersal area but they must help the ballet crew to update their moves ... we've never heard that one before. The worst part about it is the main scottish bitch, who is unsufferable throughout and you can't help but want to punch her square in the face everytime she dares to speak. I'm not even exagerrating when I say there's a grand total of about 20 minutes of dialogue for the whole film, a impressive dance routine is nice enough but we don't need about fifty of them. 06 | Valentine's Day http://omgcelebritynews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Taylor-lautner-and-Taylor-Swift-Valentines-Day-Movie-Still.jpg When I initially went to see this movie with a friend, I didn't think you could go wrong with such a superb cast (let's ignore Taylor Swift & Taylor Lautner for a moment) ... how wrong I was. The storylines are so thinly spread you find it very hard to give a $h!t about what happens to each character, and although it did show some moments of how people are shockingly alone on Valentine's Day, everyone ended up with someone if I remember correctly. The whole thing is sugary sweet and like 'Letters To Juliet', is just a bit nauseating to be honest. Anne Hathaway was however the best bit about it, and provided some decent laughs ... for about five seconds. 'He's Just Not That Into You' does it FAR better as far as I'm concerned. 05 | Step Up 3D http://www.bscreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/step-up-3d-poster-short-2-4-10-kc.jpg Very similar to 'StreetDance 3D', well they are pretty much the same movie. This was ever so slightly worse though, the dialogue was laughable with lines such as 'What if we're all born from a boombox, and we're stuck on the same melody' and 'I'm bfab - born from a beatbox', yes these lines actually did exist. The dance routines were of course impressive, but had plenty of plotholes and like StreetDance, the lead in it I wanted to punch square in the face. It did have the obvious romance story with it too which was just blindingly obvious how it was going to end up you didn't really care. The only bit that wasn't awful was the chinese girl who provided a few lol's. 04 | Shrek Forever After http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Arts/Arts_/Pictures/2010/6/30/1277921174057/Shrek-Forever-After-006.jpg All I'll say is that they really, REALLY should have stopped after the 2nd one, both of which were pretty amazing. The third was decent enough, and this was utter garbage. How it has seemingly got decent reviews is beyond me, the jokes in it were tired and unlike previous Shrek films, weren't amusing for anyone over the age of 10. There's only so many times you can milk a little boy saying 'do the roar' as the only remotely funny part of the film. The plot was also wafer thin, with not alot going on ... I think the fact that it was originally going to be made just for a 3D ride in a themepark says alot. 03 | Sex And The City 2 http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/pictures/2010/4/19/1271692749733/Sex-and-the-City-2-001.jpg And with Sex And The City, they just shouldn't have bothered with a movie in the first place. Well actually, the first one was decent enough and is still pretty watchable, it just wasn't amazing. This however was an utter abortion. Just when you think Carrie Bradshaw can't possibly get any more unlikeable, she does and throws all of her redeeming features out of the window with her actions and you really hope she does get murdered. The others also become more irrelevant, Samantha becoming a parody of herself, Charlotte becoming far too OTT and spazzy happy and Miranda ditching her job and becoming a spaz ... although she was the only decent one in the movie. I would also comment on the plot if there actually WAS one, it was just them spazzing around trying on shoes, Carrie having a 'oh noez' moment when she bumps into Aiden and that's about it. Oh and don't even get me started on how ridiculous it is when the women of Abu Dhabi lift up their burkha's (or whatever) to reveal fashionable clothes. I found it borderline racist. 02 | The Bounty Hunter http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/aug2009/2/4/jennifer-aniston-and-gerard-butler-pic-rex-image-2-23219545.jpg Poor brave Jennifer Aniston, she just can't seem to find a decent film role to save her life (well 'The Switch' was pretty good, but still). This was just generic to the extreme, had terrible gags and their was next to no chemistry between Jen and Gerard, despite them apparently dating in real life. I just found myself ridiculously bored throughout and all the jokes just made me yawn ... the only laughs were probably unintentional. I'd avoid this if I were you. 01 | Grown Ups http://www.hollywoodgo.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/grown_ups_movie.jpg And at #01 we have the one movie where I contemplated suicide just to avoid watching another second of a movie so awful. I was wary watching this movie after I knew Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Rob Schneider all starred but there was nothing else on so I thought I'd give it a go. The plot was waferthin, seriously,. a bunch of guys reuniting after their coach dies and then spending a holiday together ... that's it. Seriously. There's a few family/marriage issues in it, but they all get resolved easily. The jokes are probably the most insulting part of it, and you have to have the mental age of a five year old to find them funny ... from making love with an older woman, breast milk, slapstick and I could go on. The women also play very little parts and is kind of sexist towards them to be honest. The only funny part is shown in the trailer (when Salma throws a rock at a kid) ... seriously avoid at all costs, I wish I had.
January 1, 201114 yr Author I'll post the best list tomorrow :] Please read and reply, it took ages doing the commentary!
January 1, 201114 yr I judge you for seeing some of those. Havent seen any of them myself cos I avoid bad films at all costs.
January 1, 201114 yr Nooo. 'Step Up 3' was better than 'Streetdance' :( 'Streetdance' was so, so bad (so bad that I even found it bad!). I dunno, but I thought the routines in SU3 were a lot more polished than the ones in SD. Although I do agree with the third film being very corny and cheesy most of the time. I did however love some of the 3D effects in it (the dancing in water was amazing as well as the slush puppy bit! - even though that was the corniest part of the film LOL). I got excited when I saw a couple of the characters from the 2nd 'Step Up' film come back. Haha. But yeah, both were disappointing, looking back. 'Grown Ups' and 'Nightmare on Elm Street' were crap. So I agree with their placings here. I know I liked 'Grown Ups' when I first saw it, but looking back I can't even remember anything from it and felt it was too over crowded with the big names... 'Date Night' for number 1? :P (Although I personally think it should be number 1 in the list you just posted :heehee:)
January 1, 201114 yr i've only seen a nightmare on elm street from your list luckily and i agree it was pretty crap. i used to love them back in the day and the originals still scare the crap outta me but this new one was so disappointing and the whole p**** thing was just plain creepy and unsettling!
January 1, 201114 yr Author I didn't know all of them were going to be bad. :P Some of those I just downloaded out of interest anyway. I just watch loads of films anyway tbh. And I dunno about Date Night Jonjo, it was good but meh, I've seen better films this year.
January 1, 201114 yr Easy A for #1 on best list and I'll marry you. But for real, I quite liked SU3D but Letters to Juliet was abysmal. Oh and a little error the male lead in that is actually Australian he used to be in Home and Away years ago!
January 1, 201114 yr Author Oh really, haha. Either way he was godawful. And Easy A should definetly be up there. Emma Stone . Edited January 1, 201114 yr by Jack
January 1, 201114 yr Dance moves in Step Up 3 are incredible. Other than that meh i agree. My mum eats dance films up without even reading synopsis though  Liked Bounty Hunter (I guess that is Aniston's fan inside of me talking :( ) and Valentine's Day (ADORE Jennifer Garner and especially Julia Roberts  )
January 1, 201114 yr I've only seen 'Letters To Juliet' which I thought was ok but probably the worst movie I've seen this year (not that I've seen that many movies, and I normally only go if I know it's going to be good). Shrek was better than the third movie I though, but not as good as the first two. Not seen anything else on that list, but my sister told me that 'Valentines Day' is bad.
January 2, 201114 yr Author Top 10 Best Films Of 2010 10 | Daybreakers http://images.brisbanetimes.com.au/2010/01/05/1015341/daybreakers_420-420x0.jpg Kicking off the Best Films list is 'Daybreakers', right back from the start of the year when usually f*** all is out. This took me by surprise as I wasn't expecting much and I'm not huge on any type of vampire flick, but this was done really well I thought. The plot is fairly simple, vampires have taken over the world by some sort of disease and it has been adapted to their lifestyle (i.e, special tunnels when it's daylight, coffee shops selling blood etc.) there's a small group of survivors who go out in the day in open spaces and are trying to find a cure to turn vampires back into humans. Or something similar. It is tense throughout, I was seriously on the edge of my seat throughout the movie, touching and scary too. Not many people seem to have seen it, so I would definetly reccomend! 09 | Precious http://www.readersread.com/pics/precious_movie.jpg Next up is this gritty, emotional film that won some Oscars ... at least I think? I dunno. It was nommed at the very least. Anyway, it is very powerful and the acting is superb ... even showing that Mariah Carey is a decent actress when it comes down to it, seriously she was pretty damn good in her role I thought. It all feels very realistic as well, which adds to it I think and is enjoyable and unlike other 'powerful/emotional' films it doesn't drain you either. 08 | 4.3.2.1. http://media.daemonsmovies.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/4321_movie_10-550x365.jpg Okay, so I will admit you really do need to stick with this movie. At first it appears to just be a bit of a headf*** but it all makes sense in the end. It's basically about four friends who have different stories interwoven with each other, and somehow got involved in a diamond theft which they never intended. All four girls have their own seperate story, with each making more sense and piecing the story together as it goes on which I thought was a really clever way to tell the narrative. It's tense, very witty and funny and all girls are very likeable ... Emma Roberts seems a bit odd in it seeing as it's a British drama, but she pulls it off I think and I enjoy her character the most actually. It's very similar in tone to 'Kidulthood', which I also adored and probably because it's made by the same director, Noel Clarke, who I think is amazing who also made 'Heartless' this year which narrowly missed out on my list and would definetly reccomend both of those films! 07 | Date Night http://www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Date-Night-Photo.jpg So it's not my #01 Jonjo, but it is still Top 10. It's amazingly watchable, and so quotable too ... 'That's amazing Jeremy, but I have to go look at my vagina in a handmirror', 'You work that pole like a Russian immigrant' Tina Fey is truly a god, and her and Steve Carell's chemistry together also make the film so amazing. The timing is spot on and it's just effortlessly funny ... the incidents like posing for a picture with Will.i.am, having their car attached to a taxi and poledancing for the mafia is just done so well. It may not be the most critically acclaimed movie and isn't going to be winning any awards, but it's a lot of fun. 06 | The Crazies http://www.joblo.com/newsimages1/the_crazies_04.jpg The best horror film I've seen this year by quite some margin. It's not all about the gore either like Saw or movies like that, it's genuinely scary ... the death scenes are genuinely creepy especially the 'crazy' people who don't seem to understand what they've done wrong. The first death scene, the scene with the man with the rake and the carwash scene are honestly so tense and creepy. The whole tone of the movie, the setting, the music is done so well too ... and you genuinely care about the characters, and I've never been fussed on who the male lead is. There's also a great dark humour underneath it too, like the old lady asking among a hoard of dead bodies 'has anyone seen Jeremy?!'. If you like horror films, I would definetly reccomend, easily the best mainstream horror film I've seen in quite some time. 05 | Despicable Me http://www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/despicable_me_m.jpg The 2nd best animated/childrens movie of the year imo. So ridiculously cute and touching. The three little girls and the minions are both amazing and make the movie I think, was a big surprise to me as well as I was expecting it to be average at best. Although if anyone else has seen both movies, 'Megamind' ripped it off majorly imo and was by far inferior to it. Had some real good themes in it too, not to judge a book by it's cover and all that crap and is extremely watchable. Steve Carell is terrific as the lead too. 04 | Going The Distance http://watchgoingthedistance.com/images/watch-going-the-distance-online.jpg I can't believe how underrated this film is, it flopped pretty much everywhere and just slipped under the radar really. I thought it was amazing, Drew Barrymore and Justin Long had fantastic chemistry together too. Unlike alot of romcoms, it's not completely predictable and shows that it doesn't always end up with the predictable happy ending ... well it sort of does, but that's beside the point. Cameos from Christina Applegate are amazing as well, and her comic timing is done so well .... it had a similar vibe to '500 Days Of Summer', which is definetly no bad thing as that was also one of my favourite movies last year. It also just made me love Drew Barrymore that bit more, her character in particular is completely relatable (well to myself anyway). It has the perfect balance of humour, romance and drama in it too I think. It feels very realistic too, unlike the latest Katherine Heigl romcom where they have professions in running a pastry bakery and sports commentator ... these just feel like real people you would actually know. 03 | It's Complicated http://www.pointclickhome.com/files/web/imagecache/pch_gallery_detail/files/web/images/design-ideas-its-complicated-12-lead.jpg Another amazing romcom . Meryl Streep is amazing as usual, and is really one of those actresses who tries different roles all the time which I love. This may be a bit simpler for her, but she is really good in it and probably the best thing about the movie to be honest, she's surprisingly funny in it! I can't stand Alec Baldwin or Steve Martin usually, but their roles in this suit them both to a tee so they're both tolerable. It's really good to see a romcom with slightly older people in it too, and portraying them with 'younger' personalities too if that makes sense. Like 'Going The Distance', they both feel like real people and it has the perfect mix of drama and comedy in it. The best scenes in it involve them smoking pot, going to the bakery and making croissants and the youngest son walking in on them at it. Such a lovely film, perfect to watch with the fam too. 02 | Toy Story 3 http://i.thisislondon.co.uk/i/pix/2010/07/toystory3-415.jpg Didn't think it was possible, but I think this might possibly be my favourite in the trilogy . At first I thought it would be overhyped and not all that, but it really is. It's amazing from the getgo, with the opening play scene, getting attacked by monkeys . The new characters are very welcome too ... even though I think the big pink teddy and the big baby are creepy as f***, especially the baby ... gave me the creeps anyway. Ken and Barbie were probably my favourite new characters oh and Spanish Buzz was just hilarious and one of the many highlights of the film. Was genuinely and somewhat surprisingly moving at points ... I really did think they were just going to end it with them dying in the garbage thingy, I was just watching it like :o!. Believe the hype, Toy Story 3 is stunning. 01 | Easy A http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2010/10/21/article-1287686390706-0BB40C27000005DC-467245_636x408.jpg Perhaps slightly obvious ... but really, no other movie comes even close to this gem. Emma Stone is absolutely perfect as the lead and her comic timing is perfect. Soon becoming one of my favourite actresses, she's just amazing in this, Zombieland, House Bunny and Superbad ... really hope she gets more film roles next year. It's like the new Mean Girls, obviously not quite as amazing as that but it comes pretty damn close and I can hopefully see it becoming some sort of cult classic but that might just be wishful thinking. Like Mean Girls, it's ridiculously quotable and relatable too. Well obviously, not the whole faking your virginity part, but still. Pretty much all of the cameos are brilliant too ... Lisa Kudrow and Stanley Lucci being the main ones, although Stanley didn't really suit playing a straight part imo, but he was still hilarious as ever and Lisa is probably the strongest actress/actor from Friends along with David Schwimmer so of course she was amazing and also provided the biggest shock in the story. Aly Michalka, Dan Byrd, Cam Gigandet, Penn Badgley and even Amanda Bynes all also provided great cameos too. It's immensly feelgood, so funny and surprisingly touching with some of it's storylines too .... was my most hyped up movie of the year and it didn't disappoint me one bit
January 2, 201114 yr Author Oh and thanks to everyone who commented on my worst list, really appreciated! :D Keep em coming! :D
January 2, 201114 yr Emma Stone's playing the lead in the Spiderman-reboot with Andrew Garfield - was her role in Easy A that apparently secured her getting the role. I'm not surprised at some of the films on the worst list...some of them were always going to be seriously awful just from the titles.
January 2, 201114 yr The films I saw in your 10 worst I also disliked, and the films I saw in your 10 best I also liked - so well done on that! :P I knew what your #1 was going to be for both charts lol... Grown Ups was also my least favourite film I've seen in Cinema this Year. Easy A's out on DVD February 21st here (too long), already out in the U.S. though.
January 2, 201114 yr Author Not til February?! :( That seems ages away, I don't get many movies on DVD these days, but I would definetly make an exception for that.
January 2, 201114 yr 'Toy Story 3'. The fact that it's a 'Toy Story' sequel says it all tbh. 'Despicable Me' is indeed, fantastic. Really love it and I've been wanting to see 'Megamind' for a while now, but I do see what you mean about it looking like it rips off from DM... 'The Crazies' was alright too. There were some shocking scenes (like the bit where he goes round the hospital thing and kills people with a rake or garden fork (?) or something). Crazy. Been wanting to see 'Precious' for a while though. I've just not got round to it. I've said my piece on 'Date Night' so I'll be quiet on that. (PS. Tina Fey is horrifically annoying. She puts me off '30 Rock' too!) Nice enough list though! :D
January 2, 201114 yr Date Night  "That's amazing Jeremy but i think i'm gonna go home and look at my vagina with a hand mirror." "Now go in there and work that pole like a russian immigrant." Tina Fey
January 2, 201114 yr seen date night and it's complicated from your best list and i really liked those 2 especially it's complicated, even though i don't remember much about it i remember it being relly charming in some way.. i so need to see toy stoy 3! so many people seem to love it and it's obviously grossed so much and got so many good reviews so i suppose its gotta be watched. btw have you seen inception or is it just not one of your top 10? i think that's probably my fav of the year and we seem to have smiliar tastes even though i've not seen many of these but that's cos i've not watched many films this year
January 2, 201114 yr Author I have seen Inception, I do love it and it just narrowly missed out. As did Scott Pilgrim and Kick Ass. Actually Kick Ass should've been Top 10 ... oh well. Just been an amazing year for movies this year I think.
