Since i started watching it i must admit its drawn me to pulling out my shameless box sets and i have started watching them all again and series 1,2 and 3 are just a complete thrill to watch. I wonder in the american shameless do the charactors like steve, fiona, kev and veronica have to be written out to follow the uk version, say for example the actors didnt want to leave would they be allowed to completly re write the scripts?

Well already the storylines in the US version are veering away from the UK storylines so there's no reason Fiona, Kev etc would have to leave after two or three seasons (if it gets that many) if the actors wanted to stay on. US programmes don't really have a history of changing almost entire casts like the UK does with Shameless or Skins so I imagine the core cast will be there until the end.

What narks me is that, while we struggle with American accents, lingo and slang, in virtually every US import here, the Americans refuse to even consider listening to a 'foreign' accent and simply remake classics to suit them.

How come they seem unable to understand the English language when spoken by English people. :(

I despise American remakes.... they're always diluted, sanitised, staged and, frankly, embarrassing.

Shameless was, is and always will be a solely British institution, and should never, ever have been allowed to be cashed-in on for tatty remakes for foreign viewers.

I'd guess they can change the storyline, for example what if a character wants to leave who hasn't left the UK version. They can't force them to stay just to match the British version :P

has anyone got a link?

me and my brother love the UK version

It should be available to stream on Project Free TV (best site ever btw). If you want to download it then just google 'shameless us s01 oneddl'.

So have you actually watched the US version?

Haha.

I finally got around to watching the last few episodes. Absolutely brilliant. The second season is clearly a must seeing how the finale was a massive hit for Showtime.

This was brilliant. Hopefully season 2 differs a bit from the UK version. Steve and Fiona to remain throughout please.

I doubt anyone else wants Emmy Rossum.

Anyone watching this?

Started on more 4 on thursday. Watched the pilot earlier. I love it. I loved the original actually until the show lost the majority of the cast.

I'm downloading the fourth episode as I type, this show is such an utter joy to watch. The cast have such great chemistry together thanks to the sharp scripts and great acting. Emmy Rossum in paritcular is impressing me, I didn't expect much after only seeing her in The Day After Tomorrow and Poseidon. I actually can't name my favourite character; but I have to say that Ian is one of the best gay characters I've seen on TV since I finished watching Six Feet Under.

Also, while I would have loved Allison Janney to get the part of Sheila, I can't say that I'm too gutted. That role seems tailor made for someone who plays neurotic as well as Joan Cusack.

Watched episode 2 this morning. Officially love Veronica. Veronica was my fav character in the UK anyway.

I thought William H Macy's performance was superb. The cast is great. Unlike the UK one, there is better acting. I never found the acting amazing or very true to the heart in the UK one.

The series depicts the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children. While he spends his days drunk, his kids learn to take care of themselves.

Absolutely terrible in comparison to the UK version. I recall watching an episode and the script / directing was copied word for word, note for note. Wasn't pleasant. Felt really unnaturally funny as well; it's a show that America should have kept their hands off, but of course they never can. :(

I never watched the UK version, so I can't compare, but I love this show. I was thinking about watching the UK version as I loved this one, but then I read that a lot of the main characters left early on, so never bothered.

Yeah there were a few main characters that left in the first three series', but it kind of levelled off after that and they kept a consistent cast. It's well worth the watch, a lot better than the US version
