Such a shame that the latest X-Factor dirge is the Christmas No.1 for yet another year, I was really hoping Winter Song might do it. I'm not particularly crazy about the song, but it would have been the perfect Christmas No.1

I knoww, me too, i even delayed my downloading of it until this wweek for that reason. Unfortunately it was released far too early. If it hadn't I would say it would be a sure #1!

Wow Saw Doctors did well, i went to see them a few weeks ago!!!

They have a solid fanbase and their management are good at getting the word out about new releases. Long before the idea of Facebook campaigns (in fact before most people had heard of the internet) they used to send out newsletters to their mailing list well in advance of release listing shops selling them and what dates to buy them on to get the maximum chart position on the first week. They managed a couple of appearances on Top of The Pops as a result!

Where did you see them? I was at the Belfast show last month. A brilliant night but that can be taken for granted when you go to see The Saw Doctors.....

No word as yet on a year end chart on 2FM - like it's UK counterparts the RTE Guide double issue only covers to Friday 29th December. Normally Larry Gogan does the countdown when its on - he's on between midday & 2pm from the Monday to Friday "playing the biggest albums of the year" though I would doubt that would be the Year End chart. I would say that there is a good chance of something over the weekend though.

Just picked up the new RTE Guide and absolutely nothing mentioned. Have just contacted the Larry Gogan team to see if there is going to be anything.

Chart Track have their commentary up - still waiting on the actual charts!

2011 Belongs To Adele

As the final sales of 2011 are tallied, one clear winner emerges: Adele. Not only does she claim the best selling song of the year with ‘Someone Like You’, but she also has the No1 and No3 albums of 2011 with ‘21’ and ‘19’ respectively.

The final weekly singles chart of the year sees Little Mix on top for a third consecutive week with ‘Cannonball’, ahead of Coldplay who climb back from No4 to No2 with ‘Paradise’. As newly-acquired Christmas gadgets are loaded with new music, this week is historically the peak week of the year for downloads and there’s a renewed surge for many of the songs in the chart: Ed Sheeran, Flo Rida, One Direction and LMFAO all shine in this week’s Top 10. There are just two new entries in the Top 30: Rihanna at No17 with ‘You Da One’ and the Wanted’s ‘Warzone’ at No27.

Michael Bublé takes a fifth consecutive week at No1 on the Album Chart with ‘Christmas’ – the runner-up behind Adele’s ‘21’ in the chart of the year, but just ahead on this week’s sales. Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’ climbs back from No5 to No3, ahead of Olly Murs ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ stationary at No4 and Westlife’s ‘Greatest Hits’ at No5. Meanwhile on the Compilation Chart it’s a rare triple for the ‘Now’ series, with ‘Now 80’ at No1, ‘Now Disney’ at No2 and ‘Now Xmas’ at No3 – for a third consecutive week.

YTD charts looking quite similar to the UK's at the top of the chart then.

Am listening in to a couple of stations that carry the weekly charts. Most of those seem to be on Friday/Saturday/Sunday so fingers crossed something will turn up over the weekend.

When is Pop 4 on these days? Haven't seen it for ages - our TG4 retuned itself to Channel 4 (UK) a while back and I haven't been able to find it since then!

Paradise's Irish chart run:

14-16-12-15-13-11-16-15-15-16-20-21-14-3-4-2

It'd look like that in the UK as well if it weren't for the OCC's stupid rule :P Hopefully it'll get the Irish #1 at some point. How long do the XF winners' singles normally stay at #1 for?

Also I'll post the Top 20 Artists with the most weeks on the chart next with full chart runs.

Edited by CianS

If 'Paradise' reaches the Irish #1 spot - it'll be their first #1 single;

09 Yellow

02 In My Place

08 Fix You

03 Viva la Vida

09 Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall

02 Paradise

I just love that 'Paradise' has become a hit, I thought it'd end up an under-rated release, much like Britney Spears' 'Till the World Ends'.

Note the following chart runs run from 2/1/2011 - 30/12/2011

All peaks have occured between this time unless otherwise specified.

In my opinion, this is the closest way at estimating the highest selling artists of the year as no sales figures are available.

Feel Free to ask for any other chart runs for a song or artist.

Apart from that, Enjoy!
