Posted January 3, 201114 yr http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l280/Tylerizcool/ladygagabritneyspears.jpg Britney Spears Versus Lady Gaga: Which Diva Will Be Bigger In 2011? Posted 43 minutes ago by Kyle Anderson in Music In the cutthroat world of pop music, you're only as good and beloved as your latest project, which is why even the most entrenched superstars still feel the need to kick it up a notch with each subsequent release. In 2011, two of pop's biggest female stars will be releasing new music (likely around the same time) and vying for the singular claim to the throne. Over the weekend, Lady Gaga announced that her new album Born This Way would be dropping in May, with the single of the same name premiering in February. Meanwhile, Britney Spears has a new album that is going to be released some time in early 2011 (possibly March) and will have a new single called "Hold It Against Me" that will hit the universe later this week. Both new albums will represent big turning points for both Britney and Gaga. For Spears, the new project is something of a second sophomore release, as she experienced a bit of a reinvention with her 2008 album Circus (and the massive world tour that followed). On the other hand, Gaga is following up a gigantic series of singles, a best-selling album and an incredibly well-received world tour with a new batch of songs that could be a big departure for her (especially considering the vibe of "You And I"). There's a lot at stake for both singers, but there's only room at the top for one of them. So we leave you with this question: Which singer will have the bigger 2011? Vote below and let us know your arguments in the comments! http://www.mtv.com/videos/?id=1655109 Thank you for voting! Lady Gaga 8.57% Britney Spears 91.43% http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/01/03/britney...gaga-2011-poll/ Edited January 3, 201114 yr by Tyler
January 3, 201114 yr Author Honestly I like both of them (obviously Britney is my all time fave), and I hope they both have huge success this year. I don't see why it is made out to be like only one of them can have success. Gaga/Katy Perry/Kesha/Beyonce all experienced success last year. As well as Britneyt and Gaga both having success in 2009. But yes hype is hype. Both have very huge fan bases and both will do great.
January 3, 201114 yr Being honest, it will obviously be Gaga. The Circus sold something like 4 million worldwide, whereas the Fame as sold more than double that..
January 3, 201114 yr Author Being honest, it will obviously be Gaga. The Circus sold something like 4 million worldwide, whereas the Fame as sold more than double that.. With that being said. Britney was obviously not on her game with the 'Circus' era. She did well considering she had just recovered from a mental breakdown. But if she comes back and does the same way then I will be underwhelmed as well. Not to mention Gaga is the IT thing for 2009/2010... will that continue into this new era. It is all very dependent on what they release, and if Britney actually wants to be a competitor again.
January 3, 201114 yr Being honest, it will obviously be Gaga. The Circus sold something like 4 million worldwide, whereas the Fame as sold more than double that.. ^^ true but Circus didn't had promotion like The Fame. That's way is sold less. With this era everyone's expecting big promotion.. and when britney promoting the hype is biggg, bigger than anyting else in pop music.
January 3, 201114 yr Author And a disclaimer: Just in case people that are not regulars come all up in here. Let's keep this discussion mature and respectful, to both fan bases.
January 3, 201114 yr Their albums are coming out two months apart, they're not actually competing with each other... I really do hate that article, it's really poorly written (The Fame Monster is a compilation album now?). And this isn't Highlander, with the "there can be only one" rubbish. If both put in the effort, I could see them actually being fairly evenly matched to be honest. Honestly, I hope their album and single sales and chart positions are, by some miracle, the exact same in the end, because I love both, and cannot stand the idea of an entire year of "X is better than Y because of Z"...
January 3, 201114 yr I ADORE both of them. I grew up listening to Britney and now most recently i'm into GaGa (obviously). I'd LOVE for Britney's new era to be HUGELY successful - yeah it was a shame about Circus not performing as well as some of her previous work - but if she makes the right record i think she could easily outsell most of her more successful work. Not to mention Gaga is the IT thing for 2009/2010... will that continue into this new era. I hope it does, and i hope Britney re-becomes the IT thing in 2011. One problem could be, is it 'cool' for Girls AND BOYS to like Britney Spears ATM? As i said before though, if she makes the right record and appeals to the current market, then there's no reason why her new era shouldn't be HUGE. Im sick of all these __________ VS __________ discussions now....
January 3, 201114 yr I do think, if I am being completely honest; Lady GaGa is more likely to sell more album worldwide than Britney Spears considering how hard she works. I guess it all depends on Britney and the promotion her team secures for her. As unlikely as this may seem; do you think Britney will be able to secure a Brit Award slot since its in mid-February. :)
January 3, 201114 yr I don't think Britney will sell more than GaGa, but I really think she has potential to do much better than she did with 'Blackout' and 'Circus' with this era. Especially if the material is good and she bothers promoting ... just a feeling I've got, when I kind of knew the previous two albums wouldn't do amazingly (not saying they didnt' do good but not really GaGa or Beyoncé heights which I do think she's capable of).

The better thing to say would have been 'actual Britney Spears heights' Hehe this album could do great like her previous ones have done; hoping for atleast 5million worldwide if she does good promotion.
January 3, 201114 yr Hmm I'm not sure though. I know that in the UK, the general consensus is that GaGa is the more favourable act.. Who knows though, I guess it does depend on who has the better material!..
January 4, 201114 yr Lady Gaga 8.57% Britney Spears 91.43% Its Now - Lady Gaga 35.93% Britney Spears 64.07% She's Catching Up.. :P
January 4, 201114 yr GaGa's going to sell more. Definitely. However, even if Britney DOES do better, GaGa's not going to be pissed because she has a lot of respect for Britney and she idolises and influenced by Britney. Isn't she? (I'm sure she's said that on more than one occasion) GaGa has more pressure than Britney though. GaGa has set the bar for herself way too high and people will be interested as to whether she'll be able to pull off a just as successful 2nd (or 3rd ) era.
January 4, 201114 yr Author I mean it's a natural process. Britney was once the "IT" girl. And she slowly left that and her career has stabilized and maintained a very well populated fanbase. Difference is Britney went from having a child/young teenage audience, to an adult audience and still continues to be a staple in pop music, which is VERY hard to do. Hell just staying relevant for more then 3 years is hard to do and Britney's going on 13. They are in total different stages in their career so I don't really get the comparisons, tbh.
January 4, 201114 yr This next album for GaGa is her "test" in my eyes, if she does global conquering again with this album, she's here to stay. Britney could be huge this era a la Katy's latest album.
January 4, 201114 yr YES! I too can see it being a similar success to Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' era actually! But I think that's more me "hoping"
January 4, 201114 yr I'm not trying to be rude, but if people are going to compare Britney's sales to Gaga's, why not compare both artists' first CD sales? :kink:
January 4, 201114 yr I'm not trying to be rude, but if people are going to compare Britney's sales to Gaga's, why not compare both artists' first CD sales? :kink: Exactly my point; however there is one implication, this being the time of release. Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time (LP 1) - 28,000,000 + Worldwide Lady GaGa - The Fame (LP 1) - 8,000,000 + Worldwide :) BOMT sold 20 million copies more xD however that being said 8 million is quite amazing :)
