March 1, 201114 yr They really don't need to bother Joao. The show gets better ratings than half of the CW's schedule and one of the three shows above it is ending anyway. The CW is getting diabolical numbers right now. 90210 and Gossip Girl could only manage a 0.7 this week and Hellcats a 0.6. Any other network would have pulled them from air. They should have kept Charmed and the Gilmore Girls on, both got far higher ratings than the current crop of shows do. I would love to have Charmed back :'( But I don't think those two networks should've ever merged. The WB was doing fine on its own and was capable of getting good ratings. I do think that The CW need to start appealing to an older audience. Nikita is a step in the right direction but at the moment its ABC Family 2.0
March 1, 201114 yr Really wish The Beautiful Life was never axed, it had SO much potential :( Really hope One Tree Hill gets another year, I'm in the minority but I think S7 and 8 have been fantastic.

From what i've seen the show that aired on WB were all far better than the new stuff. As it stands most of the shows are WB produced, so it's not unreasonable to have had Gossip Girl airing along side things like the Gilmore Girls and Charmed [There was definitely another season at least in both shows, had The CW not cut Charmed's budget]

I really do not see why it was cut though as it was one of the networks highest ratings earner... Charmed would've easily partnered with Supernatural and Gilmore Girls could've at least gone for another year along side 7th Heaven (How that went on for 10 years I will never know...) All this talk of The CW and The WB just makes me wish that Popular started in the past few years under CW reign. If it did then it is likely that it would still be airing :(

It was killed the year they merged. The badly thought through and irritating Leo's going away now storyline was a direct consequence of it and was really crappy. I don't understand why such a cult hit was cancelled. It ranked #1 for the entire network in it's 8th season!!!!!!! What a stupid decision that was. Gilmore Girls ended badly, and there was still potential in that show, if only for another year. [As much as i'd love to see it go further, there was only so much they could do post School/Uni] I could do a better job of the CW schedule than they do.

It wasn't cancelled :P Their contracts ended at S8 and the girls had spent most of their 20's/30's on that show and felt like it was time to move on to other projects. It ended at the right time anyway and the ending was perfect imo, I don't think I have ever seen a better ending to a long running show. And I don't think I can watch Gilmore Girls seriously anymore after Family Guy done a parody on it  Even when it's on during the day all I see is Family Guy
March 2, 201114 yr I'm gobsmacked Episodes is coming back. The ratings were shit but it was pretty well received critically so I guess that's a factor. Matt Le Blanc in actual success shocker. Really good news about Shameless US. It's fucking brilliant, my favourite US show of the moment.
March 2, 201114 yr Maybe I'm missing something, but just why are The CW's ratings so low compared to other networks? Sounds like The WB got good ratings when it was around, and The CW must be as available to people as the other networks (as in, available in as many homes). Edited March 2, 201114 yr by Jack Sykes

Sounds like The WB got good ratings when it was around, and The CW must be as available to people as the other networks (as in, available in as many homes). It's ratings are so bad because it doesn't have the money or strength of the other mainstream networks. It's very much like Channel 5 in UK terms. Every now and again, they get this breakout hit which does tremendous for them, but most of the time it churns out rubbish and has a general bad rep, so more people watch BBC/ITV/C4. It's cery similar in the US. The CW cannot be compared to ABC/FOX/CBS/NBC because those networks have seriously HUGE amounts of money for promo and advertising. It can't bid very well for pilots, and producers would much generally rather choose a big network than The CW. The CW is doing terrible atm, and it definitely leaves shows going on much longer than they should do, but I don't think it's doing anywhere near as bad as NBC or ABC in the grand scheme of things... NBC has never really recovered from losing friends, and LOST finishing for ABC is just as bad.
March 2, 201114 yr Author Upfront Dates: 16/05/11 - NBC [am], Fox [pm] 17/05/11 - ABC [pm] 18/05/11 - CBS [pm] 19/05/11 - CW [am] Source: TVbytheNumbers.com By then the fates of all shows on the big 5 networks will be known, we should also know what pilots have been picked up too.
March 3, 201114 yr I'm still bitter that the CW axed Melrose Place reboot after 1 season, if they takeaway Hellcats after one season I will be so unhappy :(
March 3, 201114 yr Dawn Ostroff is finally leaving The CW. She's been one of the key factors in its hideous ratings/reputation imo. Making Gossip Girl clones by the dozen, axing potential shows that pull in a different audience [Veronica Mars/Reaper], shipping Supernatural and Smallville to Fridays even to see they STILL outrate her precious teen crap. The only good thing that woman has done for the network is give us The Vampire Diaries. The pilots for the new season whilst a bit cringe-worthy in some aspects seem to have a lot more promise and focusing on the Nikita side of the network rather than 90210. Personally I'd end Supernatural and move TVD to another network [even cable] and scrap the rest of the shows.
March 3, 201114 yr eugh.....American TV. Fucking absurd generalisation. So much of the best television ever made has come from America. Even in the last decade there's been countless great programming. Get over yourself.
March 3, 201114 yr eugh.....American TV. Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Mad Men, Big Love, Arrested Development, The West Wing, True Blood, Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Damages, Oz? Edited March 3, 201114 yr by Daniel II
March 4, 201114 yr Mad Men, Six Feet Under and The Sopranos are some of the finest quality shows you'll ever find.
March 4, 201114 yr Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Mad Men, Big Love, Arrested Development, The West Wing, True Blood, Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Damages, Oz? Band of Brothers.
March 4, 201114 yr American television is a million times better then British television. The thing is with British television, they either lose the majority of the cast within the first 2/3 seasons or just the plot completely. I am not a hater of British television shows but if you asked me to count 10 actual great british shows, i would fail. If you asked me to count 10 great american shows, i could count to 50, possibly 100.
March 4, 201114 yr British dramas don't produce enough episodes either. Downton Abbey at least looks like going some way to rectify that with eight in its second season, and Shameless seems to have hundreds, but the standard six is just a disappointment most of the time and quite often storylines end up being wrapped up too swiftly because they needed more episodes. I wouldn't have 20+ like they do in the US with major network series but I think 8-12 would be perfect.
March 4, 201114 yr 6 episodes most of the time is far too small indeed. :( As for longer seasons - The O.C. has the longest season. 27 episodes! :o Now that is too much!
