April 17, 201114 yr Really reminded me of the 90s! I loved that they modernised it but still kept all the camp trademarks of the original. The whole OTT, stupid, dramatic way is what Scream is all about. It doesn't take itself seriously and ridicules the slasher genre as a result. It was better than 3 but way below the classic status of 1 and 2. I didn't really feel any of the new characters bar Kirby who was surprisingly quite good. Also so did not expect the twist at the end :o I am a bit concerned about its performance though. I live in Cambridge so it's not a huge indication but the cinema was practically empty in the middle of the afternoon on the second day of release. Yikes.
April 17, 201114 yr I went to see it on Friday Half 10 at night wasn't really full - I expected it to be a sell out. Should not take in over 2million imo (In The Uk)

Cinema companies LOVE rain and bad weather as it usually results (unless it's something like Harry Potter - which will draw in the crowds regardless of the weather) in better sales as nobody wants to be outside at the park or having bbq's or whatever. Well that's what it's been like up here in Nottingham. Having said that, Scream 4 is easily the biggest film at the cinema where I work at the moment, every show it's doing double the tickets of the next film (which at the moment is 'Rio' and it's the weekend/easter holidays!) Really pumped for this. Watching it on THURSDAY! Woooooooo!
April 18, 201114 yr Ach, I have found out a key bit of info about someone who dies because of this thread  I keep being tempted in. Right, no more peeking in from now.
April 18, 201114 yr Author Oh and yes 'Rio' was SHOCKING. Why is it getting such good reviews?! I felt bored $h!tless ... it had nothing on 'Despicable Me' ... or even 'Megamind'! Shows that you really can't trust reviews tbh. Anyway going to see this on Wednesday! :D So excited!
April 18, 201114 yr Just thought I'd add some bits; I actually hated. Looking back, it's 2 hours of my life that I'm never getting back. It just took elements from the past 3 films and tried threading it through this one, but it just came across repetitive and boring, instead of trying to come across as 'clever'. The killer was obvious. Obvious and a bit ridiculous. She looked like an 11 year old girl. There's no way she would have had the physical ability to carry out some of the murders. Plus her motives where pretty 'cringe-y'; "I DID IT BECAUSE I WANT TO BE FAMOUS." It's been done before in so many other movies. Absolute poor and weak cast. Dewey, Gale & Sidney are all incredible iconic characters within the franchise, but as actors/actresses, Arquette, Cox & Campbell all failed to deliver great performances, whether due to the weak storyline or their characters not being strong enough in this. Courteney is a prime example of this, Gail Weathers is my favourite character from the Scream franchise, but she didn't stand out at all in this. She definitely lost her 'edge'. And lastly, I didn't like the killers voice. He/She talked too much. ...
April 18, 201114 yr I am seeing this on Wednesday and I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO. Anybody on BuzzJack willing to put half of the money towards an Orange Wednesday ticket with my friend please apply within.

Anybody on BuzzJack willing to put half of the money towards an Orange Wednesday ticket with my friend please apply within. Just saw this. I thought it would be f***ing awful but it turned out better than expected, wasn't too predictable either (I only guessed half of the twist). However, can anyone in this film actually act? Everyone was shockingly awful. + Watching Courteney Cox trying to move her face was possibly more horrifying than anything else. Edited April 18, 201114 yr by ▲▲▲
April 18, 201114 yr Most of the reviews I've read seemed to cite Courteney as a highlight! But this is really not the sort of film which requires particularly good acting. It is a teen comedy/horror after all, not a Meryl Streep vehicle.

Same here, but then again, I am the biggest Courteney loon ever  BTW, your siggy is perfection

They don't even need to act that well but some of them were just dreadful. Hayden Panettiere and Anna Paquin in particular (despite just a cameo).

I hope it can hold up as general consensus around movie goers was really positive despite what the critics are saying.
April 18, 201114 yr Scream will take over 15m in the Uk Alone tbh.. I expect it to remain at like 1.5m this week. And it will make around 60-80m in America.

I think it will do really well internationally which will make up for the lacklustre USA takings. Hopefully it will be enough, along with DVD sales etc to kick off the new trilogy. Oh It's half term, all teens are out of school which means this will do really well in the weekdays :) Edited April 18, 201114 yr by Jam.

It is a teen comedy/horror after all, not a Meryl Streep vehicle. Oh yeah I agree with that, but there's still no denying that a lot of the characters could have given decent performances. I just don't think that 'Gale' as a character had much of a strong role in this, I expected (& wanted) more.
April 19, 201114 yr Author I'm so glad Red Riding Hood flopped despite being practically rammed down our throats for the past couple of months. It looks f***ing AWFUL.
April 20, 201114 yr hopefully seeing this today, glad it's doing well here. The budget was apparently $40 million and it's already made over that ($49 million WW) this is hopefully a good sign the 5th movie will get underway.
