I've seen the trailer for a new BBC series called Outcasts, it looks good, it seems like a copy of Survivors but from a different angle, I probably watch it, as I like these type of dramas.

It looks like the most ridiculously overblown attempt at creating an epic. I may have to watch.

I know nothing about this, and don't even know when it starts (febuary some time?) but looks really good just by that trailer.

Info on this from Digital Spy - Cult Forum:

The BBC has commissioned a new eight-part sci-fi series from Ashes To Ashes producer Kudos.

Outcasts follows a diverse group of people who are living in a small town on a fictional planet that has been colonised by humans. These pioneers are helping build a new community far away from their loved ones and are optimistic about their future, but the planet holds many mysteries which threaten to destroy the fragile peace.

The cast includes Hermione Norris (Spooks), Danny Mays (Ashes To Ashes), Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) and Ashley Walters (Small Island).

The series is currently being filmed in South Africa for transmission in the Autumn on BBC One.

Will deffo watch it, looks an interesting plot, and a very good cast.

My only problem is the BBC have commissioned some quite frankly ABSOLUTELY APPAULING sci-fi style dramas of late, so I will look at this with a degree of ambiguity...

All the reviews I have read for this say it's appaling. I may give it a go anyway though, looks like the sort of thing I'd like! :(

from what i hear, it picks up a bit in the second episode, which is on tomorrow night, which is why i think they have the second episode on so fast.

i'm just gonna go in with an open mind, watch today and tomorrow's episode and see what i think.

LENS FLARE. LENS FLARE. LENS FLARE. EVERY OTHER f***ING SHOT.

seriously mega overuse of lens flare.

i thought this seems fairly rushed and under developed, the story was getting pushed forward too fast and i wasnt sure where we were meant to be positioned in the audience, it wasnt until they killed that Mitchell guy that I realised we werent meant to be on his side, and because they have spent no time developing the characters it really leaves a feeling of not caring. it's clear they have rushed into the show without thinking things through and developing ideas.

Slow start, going to stick with it for a couple of more episodes. tomorrow's episode looks better.

I never watch the previews of the next episode. I want to see it in one go, complete and in the right order. I thought it was OK. It's always difficult to achieve the right balance between developing characters so we care about them and developing the plot.

Not sure why all the outcasts and all the new arrivals appear to be British. Did the whole of the rest of the planet get wiped out?

Anyone else still watching this?

I'm getting quite into it now, I guess it helps to know the characters more, but i'm getting into the mythology of the planet a bit. theres quite a bit of shabby special effects and camera work, which i'd maybe ignore as it's only a tv show but it's meant to be fairly big budget so i'd expect a bit better on that front, i'd say it's trying far too much to be some sci-fi epic, but if i ignore all these things it's pretty good.

The mythology is the only thing keeping me watching this... and even that's pretty predictable. The characters are terrible and sometimes it looks so budget...this is the kind of programme that should've been done by the Americans. (And why is everyone on Carpathia British?)

As from next week, the remaining 3 episodes are been shafted to Sunday night at 10:25 due to low ratings, I'm still watching it, I'm intrigued with the Mobius character and what he is up to, the ending of Monday's episode left me wanting to know the answers, but I think I know where its going.

only three episodes left?

tbh they clearly wanted this to be some sort of long lasting epic but i doubt it will even last another season if it's getting such low ratings. i do get the feeling they rushed the show quite a bit where as if they took some time to develop the show it might have been alot better.

I'm with Chris on this. At first I didn't believe that they had rushed it, but after seeing the latest episode I am sure they have done. It's such a good concept, but there's so many holes. It just seems that either the production company or the BBC pushed it through quicker than it should have been. It's such a shame really as the show itself has such huge potential.

The characters are all so just very cliche though, which is my main problem. I mean the Fleur and Cass love thing is just tedious to watch. So many shows have done the whole 'WILL THEY WON'T THEY' get together so much that it has been done to death now.

Unfortunately the pilot was just a horrid mess really. The entire focus of the pilot was on a character that dies, and they developed his character so much and left the rest of the actual main characters as sub-plots really. Bit of a shame, but like someone said above - I don't think the UK can really do sci-fi, it just looks so cheap and corny dompared to the big US budgets. Saying that, the world is crying out for a new big sci-fi/supernatural show now that the likes of Heroes and LOST have finished/ been cancelled - don't think Outcasts will be it though.
