Hope it's the start of the return for indie music domination.

Unlikely - such bands traditionally release in January, so that can get maximum chart position on minimum sales.

Looks like the new upfront release policy could help rather than hinder indie acts if this week is anything to go by, certainly fans of the genre might be less inclined to illegally download if there's a legal high quality available straight away. Four indie groups set to debut inside the top 40 simultaneously, practically unheard of these days!

I don't think you can really take anything from it - it's merely a coincidence of release dates. It's very rare to have four major indie singles released in one week these days, at least since record companies decided guitars weren't "cool" anymore, anyhow.

The Wombats were always going to be a contender for top 40 after their last single surprised everyone by getting to #23 and this is still a pre-album release. And Beady Eye's last single would have done this well too if it wasn't up for free download before (and it still made the top 75 anyway). And then The Vaccines obviously have a trail of hype following behind them, so they're not a surprise either. All would have got top 40 regardless IMO.

The only real surprise was Noah and the Whale... but then they do have Radio 1 backing again this time.

Wasn't Jump Into The Fog also a free download at some point? I'm surprised it's looking at the top 40 TBH. Then again I didn't expect T(V&W) to do anywhere near as well as it did so hey...

I think there's a chance JITF could just about drop out of the top 40 by Sunday... I hope not though.

The only one of the 4 indie songs in the top 40 I'm not surprised about is Post Break-Up Sex due to the Vaccines hype, although even that I thought was more likely to not go top 40 then to go top 40, let alone top 30...

I need to stop using ellipses so much  ...

Uh huh, it was. But then The Wombats also have 3 original B-sides on the single to entice the hardcore fans to buy it again. Beady Eye didn't do the same with 'Bring The Light', so that's definitely a factor too.

Yes, but that doesn't explain how the single track of it has been floating around between 30 and 45 on iTunes for the whole week. Unless it was a different version they gave away free?

Casual fans? :P They obviously haven't turned into a fanbase-only band quite yet considering how well Tokyo held up. Beady Eye obviously have more support from the casual music fans, too, probably because of more airplay (I think 'Bring The Light' was only a buzz sort of single anyway).

But the point is, the EP has probably bumped them up quite a few places considering they haven't got higher than the bottom of the top 40 on iTunes (and maybe even helped push them into the top 40). Do you know where it peaked on the iTunes albums chart, by any chance? It's #27 atm but I'd hesitate to guess it might have been a little higher at one point. Is it out on physical too?

The very highest I saw JItF on the albums chart was #10 but it was probably higher a few hours earlier.

Blind Faith was #2 at the time and We R Who We R was #3. BF has held up well (currently #16) but WRWWR has plummetted even lower than The Wombats.

Someone Like You top 40 finally. #19 on iTunes so will surely stay there now till Sunday.

Cee-Lo Green #5 on the album chart :o

I'm so curious with Adele's sales of 21. :)

Yeah, i didnt expect it'd still be doing so well, I dont know why but i had the idea that he wouldnt do very well with his album, however brits is coming so more exposure too (even though FY gave him plenty ), i'm glad though. 'It's Ok' didnt do much so glad the album is doing well.

FY will probably return to the top 20 again in a few weeks after the inevitable BRITs performance (well he's not gonna perform It's OK is he?)

Someone Like You top 40? Amazing

Well 100k in 2 days and with all this hype around her at the moment, i would say she may reach around 160-170k!

It'll definitely be Forget You  and probably a pretty good performance! Highly doubt he'll win a Brit though, but its possible.

She deserves it 100%! She breaks that f***ing stereotypes about gorgeous divas without talent dominating the charts!

Plus, I don't wanna be mean, but dear Cheryl this is what it means i can sing! Amazing!

Adele is really on a roll with the 2nd album, its also made a number 1 debut in Ireland, 19 is number 5, in the singles chart rolling in the deep climbs 1 place to number 2, someone like you makes a #19 debut and make you feel my love climbs 3 places to number 13.
