If one radio station there playlists a song like E.T., Dance in the Dark or Just Can't Get Enough, the country is just so big that it can't have an effect on the chart, whilst in Australia, it can?

 

Yeah, I guess that with a smaller population the effects will be greater. Those songs will be high on the Australian iTunes but they probably won't sell nearly as much as any song in that position on the UK singles chart. I also think that any hype will be exaggerated too.

 

It would be interesting to go and see what the music scene is like though. ^_^

In the US, songs usually get released to radio within days of their radio premiere. Sometimes, songs actually get put up for sale before their radio premiere, so it's not wholly unusual. Just the UK usually gets the songs like 3 months after their radio premiere (e.g. We R Who We R), whilst in this case we're getting it roughly the same time as the US.

 

But yes, I'm pretty sure it'll get to #1!

I'm just pointing out that Kylie does not necessarily equal massive success. Given it was performed on several high-profile TV shows and her album hadn't exactly sold *that* much, BTT should really have been able to peak higher than #32.

 

'The One' only went 4 places lower and that didn't even have a video or a physical. (Or am I thinking of Madonna's Miles Away?)

The thing is everybody who wanted to buy 'Better than Today' had already owned it on the album. The song was rather weak, that's why it tanked.

 

However, this week is the first week when you can legally buy this track she's featured on. Also, I think she has made the song much better and attracted a lot of casual fans to it too, with the song being with mixed-sex singing vocals and the 'cool' vibe from Taio/Kylie collaboration. Obviously Travie added something to the popularity too but in my opinion - not that much.

Kylie does equal massive success. Just becuase the last 2 tracks didnt get top 10 doesnt mean much. Before that pretty much every single song since 2000 has been top 10. Yes its mainly its a Taio Cruz song but im pretty sure Kylie fans or casual fans have bought into the single too.

Kylie has established enough credibility and chart success to allow the odd flop single! Most artists (including Taio) could only dream of her success!
