Wow, really love this song now - I think if it had a bit more of a chorus it would be incredible!

Released Oct 2nd? Good she's not going OA/OS or that would be her career down the drain!

I don't see this as selling out because I don't think it'll be a hit...I reckon it will do about as well as Hollywood.

This feels like a really natural thing for Marina to do to me. She's constantly referencing popstars and pop culture in her songs that it seems quite fitting that she's releasing such a brazen pop song.

Personally, I don't really like the 'dance' version (although it has grown a lot), but I'm loving the acoustic version. For me, the acoustic version shows that the only thing that separates the 'dance' version from the rest of her back catalog is the production.

I agree with this completely.

You know perhaps she artistically wanted to go down this route? I don't believe she is selling out at all, i hate that saying anyway as its misused so much.

No, I do think Marina is "selling out" in the sense that she's making material more commercial than I think she would have ever thought she would before TFJ didn't take off. She's always struck me as a pop hipster of sorts who would never go to a "hitmaker" like Dr. Luke or Stargate. And now she's done that. I don't care but apparently she does - and to be honest I think this whole Electra Heart business is just to help her sleep at night and also to try and convince her indie fanbase that she is just mocking mainstream popstars. This era seems to have had a lot of thought put into it as regards trying not to alienate everyone who liked Marina before; Fear & Loathing coming out prior to Radioactive was obviously a move to please her indie fanbase and the Electra Heart "thing" strikes me as an attempt to keep her "cool" reputation and keep radio (well, Radio 1) on-side.

Or maybe she actually does want to make an album based on The American Dream. That's just my thoughts anyway.

I'm reserving judgement until the album comes out but the signs are not good.

The whole idea that she is 'mocking' or poking fun at popular culture or pop music today with this song is ridiculous. She's made a pop song. It's not a million miles removed from the likes of Hollywood (and for my money it's by far the most listenable thing she's ever done) and it doesn't need to be dressed up as something it's not.

This girl is uber pretentious anyway so I'm not surprised she's had to create a whole alter ego just to be able to release a chart friendly pop song but it's unnecessary. It should just be enjoyed for what it is.

This has grown on me now, damn it!

As Thom (HelterSkelter) would say "It sounds great in the club". :D

HA!

I wonder where he disappeared to.

totally agreed!

people always go on about how some artists need a change of sound in their next era and complain about how their new stuff sounds exactly the same as their old stuff. then there's some artists who actually do try something out of their genre and get slated. it's kind of annoying, really.

Well she gave an interview saying she was pissed about not being successful and 679 won't be happy with another "flop" album so it would be quite a coincidence if Marina just happened to decide "You know, I feel like making club bangers". But again, I don't think there is a problem with her "selling out". I want her to be a success and the music is still great so there's no problem for me.

I do wonder though, if she does become successful, how long it will take her to go "hipster". It will definitely happen (if she becomes successful).

I'm loving this SO SO much now, it's irresistible. It has a quite haunting melody, I was trying to put my finger on why it seemed more sophisticated than the average pop song of that ilk and that's roughly it, plus putting her own stamp firmly on it.

The video also totally goes hand in hand with the song perfectly, I'm hoping to god this will be big.

He's still about, I have him on Facebook!

This song is definitely growing on me! I've never really clicked with Marina though, even though I should love her!

This really really is a FANTASTIC pop song and think it has the potential to be a BIG number 1 here and abroad.

Just an aside on this whole "selling out" malarkey. I think it's too easy to accuse her of selling out. We can't hold our own personal interpretations and images of Marina against her. What is wrong with wanting to produce highly accessible pop music? Why should she maintain her "indie-lite" style? Artists go through stylistic and personal changes throughout their career and it's what makes for the best and most interesting artists.

I think we are in for a very interesting and idiosyncratic record here where you don't see the Dr Luke, Stargate or Marina etc. I also have a feeling there may well be even BIGGER singles and tracks ahead. Very exciting times.

Radioactive is brilliant! My most played of the week.

E-MAIL JUST IN FROM MARINA

(Thinking) of performing the 'Electra Heart' record at DECAYING BALLROOMS across the country.

Radio 1 have added this to their playlist today! I'm glad they don't seem to be ignoring her after her flop last era, hopefully 'Radioactive' will get wider backing than the singles from The Family Jewels though, and get a decent chart placing in the coming weeks :D

ETA: It's also Scott's ROTW as of Monday, so it'll get at least one play a day + any other plays from other DJ's :)
