Renault F1′s Robert Kubica crashes during Rally Ronde di Andora

Robert Kubica, Renault F1′s no.1 driver today crashed at a rally event in Italy. Following the crash Kubica was airlifted to a hospital. According to the Savona News, Kubica was conscious after the accident but was rushed to hospital with what they described as “several fractures”. Reports from Poland, suggest that he has multiple fractures to his wrist.

Kubica was driving a Skoda Fabia in the Super2000 category of the Rally Ronde di Andora when his car overturned. With the F1 testing just concluded, Renault would be hoping that their no.1 driver recovers from his injuries prior to the opening race of the 2011 F1 season. Team ICB wishes you a speedy recovery and hope to see you at Bahrain on the 11th of March.

There's no way he makes it to the grid in Bahrain.

I'm mega gutted, this car is the first one that actually looks like it could do the business since the R25 & R26.

Apparently he hit a guard rail, and that punched through the engine bay and into the cockpit causing damage to Kubica's arm, hand and leg. He was apparently trapped in the car for 90minutes and lost blood while they were getting him out of the car.

It's reckoned he'll recover fine, but not in time for the start of the season. I reckon it'll be the 4th or 5th race before he's back. I wish him well.

Oh, Nick, you'll love this news though; Heidfeld is supposedly in for a chance to fill Kubica's spot as Grandprix.com seem to think Renault won't use their 3rd driver as both he and Petrov have $h!t all experience.

yeah I read that, well he is definitely the best choice for Renault, Bruno and Petrov couldn't do good job together.

Kubica's surgery went well according to Renault's twitter feed. :cheer:

I think Kimi would be a great choice too, but an unlikely one  I'd be happy with Heidfeld or Klien. Or maybe even half inching Kovy or Truli from Lotus. That having been said, Trulli spend as much time in the gravel trap as Piquet

Good to see Robert's recovery is going as well as it can :)

Bernie has said that whether the Bahrain race goes ahead is down to the Crown Prince. I think it could go either way at the moment but it depends on the events of the next couple of days. I found this on F1 Fanatic which gives an insightful view on the actual goings on in Bahrain without the media interference: http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/forum/topic.php?id=1243 . This maybe suggests the Bahrain situation isn't as bad as it seems compared to what the media is portraying.

Bahrain is cancelled. Australia is now the opener.

And Bob Bell has joined Mercedes GP, the c**t.

Really gutted about Kubica. We'd have been in for one hell of a year with him.

Here's hoping that Heidfeld will deliver the goods.

Sounds like he will be back in 2012 all going well :) great chance for Heidfeld to step up, sounds like they might well have a good season too.

Don't care who wins really as long as it is not Hamilton so would take any one of Alonso, Massa, Vettel, Webber, Button or Heidfeld as champion.

Aha! Wonderful news, someone else who dislikes Hamilton.

Heidfeld's a good consistent driver who will score points for us regularly. Kubica would be challenging for the race wins, but i haven't really paid much attention to Heidfeld other than remembering he gave Kubica a run for his money when they both drove for BMW [And he was born near the city i was born in]

Our exhaust blown floor looks brilliant, major kudos for Enstone for that genius development. The R31 is very pretty, and looks aerodynamically sound.

Yeah can't stand the bloke, he comes across as less of a turd now but the stupid comments he made particularly in 2007 and 2008 put me right off him, how dare he call drivers who were less fortunate than him to get a drive "monkeys at the back of the grid" -_- were it not for Ron Dennis bankrolling his entire career buying him the best rides he would be one of those monkeys at the back of the grid himself (pardon the unfortunate racial slur). Dreadful bloke hope he screws up again this season.

Renault car looks pretty damn tasty both in design and performance can see them fighting for podiums this season

This is Nick's last chance for his first victory, really hope that Renault can be good as in Alonso time.

During their time together at BMW Heidfeld scored more points than Kubica.

2006: H - 10, K - 6

2007: H - 61, K - 39

2008: H - 60, K - 75

2009: H - 19, K - 17

Total: H - 150, K - 137

Great!

Although Petrov outperformed him in P1. Not that the practice sessions on a Friday ever tend to mean anything.

Heidfeld crashed out at Q1 :manson:

A bigger surprise would be Petrov managing to get P6 on the grid. :o AMAZING. Shame Kubica's out coz we could have won the championship this year.

He had a problem with a KERS

Nick Heidfeld (18th, Q1 - 1m 27.239s)

“I’m disappointed to be starting the season from so far back. It wasn’t an easy session and I had a problem with the KERS, which meant I had to change some settings, and that cost me one of my timed laps. Then, there was so much traffic and I tried to find some free space, but it didn’t work out for me. It’s bad luck, but I must try and put that behind me now. As we have seen with Vitaly, the car seems to have good pace and the race is wide open, so hopefully I can move forward and fight for points.”

It's only first race, i'm sure that he will improve his performances on race.

He only needs to stay 'alive' after first corner
