40 Perfume Genius 'Learning' (164 points)

Top vote: Medicated Soap (1st)

Kicking off is 'Learning' by Perfume Genius, a US singer-songwriter who released his debut album in mid-2010. This is the title track from it.

39 Sleigh Bells 'Rill Rill' (170 points)

Top votes: Grebo (1st), Severin (5th)

Sleigh Bells were another act who released their debut album last year, and are a BuzzJack indie forum favourite, ending with four songs nominated. This wasn't released as a single but is more laid back than a lot of their album 'Treats' is.

38 Fever Ray 'Mercy Street' (179 points)

Top voter: Grebo (4th)

Lead singer of The Knife, Karin Dreijer Andersson, AKA Fever Ray, released this as a standalone single in 2010, a cover of Peter Gabriel's 'Mercy Street'.

37 LCD Soundsystem 'I Can Change' (185 points)

Top vote: Space (8th)

James Murphy released his 3rd album last year, and this was the second single from it and was one of two songs he had nominated.

36 Sufjan Stevens 'I Want to Be Well' (187 points)

Top vote: Harve (4th)

Another BuzzJack Indie forum favourite, Sufjan had three songs nominated. This one was the penultimate track on his album 'The Age of Adz'. He's built up his fanbase rather well over the last decade, and it was a first US Top 10 album and UK Top 40 album.

Sleigh Bells & Fever Ray are both far too low down for me

35 Biffy Clyro 'Bubbles' (206 points)

Top votes: The Viper (1st), Mancunian Giraffe (3rd)

The first song to appear which reached the UK chart, this didn't chart highly but became one of their longest running and biggest selling singles.

34 Yeasayer 'Madder Red' (211 points)

Top votes: Tony (1st), Thomsen (5th)

New York's Yeasayer released their second album 'Odd Blood' at the beginning of 2010. This was the third and final single released from it, after 'Ambling Alp' and 'O.N.E'.

32 Sleigh Bells 'Infinity Guitars' (227 points)

Top votes: Grebo (3rd), 152 Chris (3rd), Pavel (4th)

The second entry from the New York duo, is musically very different from their first 'Rill Rill', this was a single towards the end of the year.

Yay the results!

I love Sleigh Bells but I'm also a bit concerned what the sudden fame will do to them (apparently working with Beyoncé which is not a good start imo)

Really?! It will be interesting to see what they come up with I suppose...

32 Delphic 'Halcyon' (227 points)

Top votes: NickF1 (3rd), 152 Chris (4th)

Delphic promised much before their album 'Acolyte' was released but many were left a little disappointed. This, their final single, was one of the albums best though.

Really?! It will be interesting to see what they come up with I suppose...

I guess...Diplo is also involved

If Beyoncé turned into M.I.A. that'd very bad but also four years too late.. But we'll see.

I've never heard 'Learning' before, but it's quite good listening to it now.

It's great isn't it!

I know I'm going to like the results of these, choosing my top 40 was almost entirely made up of songs from my top 200 of the year and I was amazed by how similar the general taste was.

31 The Courteeners 'You Overdid it Doll' (230 points)

Top votes: West (4th), Severin (4th)

As one of the bands to emerge in the 2005-7 period that could've been described as landfill indie, it's a surprise that they came back with something this good which would be so popular on here. But a change of sound that's more polished and less reliant on guitars made for a vast improvement.

30 Delphic 'Acolyte' (233 points)

Top vote: Alin (6th)

Delphic's second entry finishes almost immediately after their first. This is one of the albums standout tracks, an 8+ minute instrumental.

'Acolyte'

Definitely the highlight of the album for me.
