February 6, 201114 yr Author 01. KLF Featuring The Children Of The Revolution - 3AM Eternal Absolute classic! My fave KLF track and certainly one of the best number one hits. 02. Simpsons - Do The Bartman Stick to TV... 03. 2 In A Room - Wiggle It Much There ere a fair few pop/hip hop acts during this time that ended up as one hit wonders... this was borderline novelty fodder. 04. Nomad Featuring MC Mikee Freedom - (I Wanna Give You) Devotion Another old-skool classic, this is precisely why they say 'they don't make em like this anymore! 05 Praise - Only You The sort of track that might sound cool if your riding a camel in the Sahara. Not one of the worse tracks here 06 EMF - I Believe Rubbish follow up! 07. Kylie Minogue - What Do I Have To Do? Oooooh yeessssss! Part of Kylies quartet of true great Kylie classics! 08. Soho - Hippy Chick {1991} I wonder how Morrissey fans took to this... ;) 09. Rick Astley - Cry For Help No thanks... 10. Vanilla Ice - Play That Funky Music He actually had a follow up???? And of the rest, I like (not an awful lot, there is a fair of of tat here) 11. Seal - Crazy 14. C&C Music Factory Featuring Freedom Williams - Gonna Make You Sweats 18. A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It? 22 The Source - You Got The Love 24 Kenny Thomas - Outstanding {1991} 53. Shades Of Rhythm - Homicide/Exorcist 57. Quartz Featuring Dina Carroll - It's Too Late 62. King Bee - Must Bee The Music 65. Madonna - Justify My Love 74. Orbital - Satan
February 6, 201114 yr Well 'Do The Bartman' was the first cassette single I bought at the time although it was already no. 1 when I did buy it. Seeing the video on Top Of The Pops for the first time was a proper "what is this? :D " moment. I'd never heard of The Simpsons but was fascinated by it. Then my dad bought Sky TV (with 20 channels, half of them were foreign ^_^ ) around August 1991 and I discovered The Simpsons via Sky One. 20 years on and I still love watching the older episodes but have to admit, The Simpsons as a cartoon series has gone seriously crap over the last 10 years. :(
February 7, 201114 yr God, is it 20 years since the KLF scored their first (not including the Timelords) and only number one? I feel so old...this was definitely my era - 13 going on 14. 01. KLF Featuring The Children Of The Revolution - 3AM Eternal Not as good as What Time is Love? but a brilliant single nonetheless and still one of the best number ones of all time. I bought it on 7" 02. Simpsons - Do The Bartman Er, I also bought this on 7". The thing was, this was the only way to interact with the Simpsons if you, like most people at the time, didn't have Sky. Loved the video - still do. 03. 2 In A Room - Wiggle It I also bought this - but don't know why. From that time when dance and rap collided, in this case quite badly 04. Nomad Featuring MC Mikee Freedom - (I Wanna Give You) Devotion But when dance and rap collided well - oh yes, we got great tracks like this one. It had originally been released at the close of 1990 and took ages to reach the top 10 if I remember...'Maggie came but now she's slaughtered'...indeed! Again, I bought this. That's 4 for 4 so far. 05 Praise - Only You Throwaway record coupling some operatic warbling from a car advert over some discount beats. Think Enigma's 'Sadness' with less soul 06 EMF - I Believe Not as universal as 'Unbelievable' but still a great track. I like the follow up 'Children' more. Useless fact - EMF have hit the top 10 3 times and each time it had something to do with belief 07. Kylie Minogue - What Do I Have To Do? A genuinely good record from Kylie - and a foxy video to boot. 08. Soho - Hippy Chick {1991} Pretty average record, I didn't like it at the time but later warmed to it. Without the Smiths sample it'd have sneaked in around no.35 09. Rick Astley - Cry For Help Yes...it was, wasn't it? 10. Vanilla Ice - Play That Funky Music Awful follow up to a genuinely catchy debut (yeah, what?) - stupidly playing on the fact that, hey, Vanilla is a white boy! Well, didn't buy any of 5-10 in the end. And out of the rest... 11. Seal - Crazy (bought) 12. Queen - Innuendo (bought - why?) 13. Enigma - Sadness Part 1 (liked) 14. C&C Music Factory Featuring Freedom Williams - Gonna Make You Sweat (bought) 18. A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It? (bought - love this - superb single) 22 The Source - You Got The Love (bought - still the best version of this ever made) 24 Kenny Thomas - Outstanding {1991} (bought - why?) 27. Mark Summers - Summers Magic (bought - brilliant madcap cut n paste record centering on a sample of the Magic Roundabout) 29. The Farm - All Together Now (bought) 37. Railway Children - Every Beat Of The Heart (liked) 39. Free - All Right Now {1991} (liked) 41. Julian Cope - Beautiful Love (bought - I love this record, one of his best ever) 42. Jesus Jones - International Bright Young Thing (bought - this record holds a special memory for me in later life) 43. Jellyfish - The King Is Half Undressed (bought) 44. Living Colour - Love Rears Its Ugly Head (liked) 47. Milltown Brothers - Which Way Should I Jump? (liked) 51. D-Shake - My Heart The Beat (liked) 53. Shades Of Rhythm - Homicide/Exorcist (liked) 55. Dinosaur Jr - The Wagon (liked) 57. Quartz Featuring Dina Carroll - It's Too Late (liked) 62. King Bee - Must Bee The Music (liked) 63. MC Hammer - Pray (liked...at the time!) 64. That Petrol Emotion - Tingle (liked) 65. Madonna - Justify My Love (liked) 70. Throwing Muses - Counting Backwards (liked) 74. Orbital - Satan (liked) 75. Scientist - The Bee (liked)
February 7, 201114 yr The Simpsons as a cartoon series has gone seriously crap over the last 10 years. :( 15 years I'd say - and that's being generous. Channel 4 are showing the first few series at the moment and the difference between them and, say, series six onwards is just unbelievable. They really need to knock it on the head.
February 7, 201114 yr Author 15 years I'd say - and that's being generous. Channel 4 are showing the first few series at the moment and the difference between them and, say, series six onwards is just unbelievable. They really need to knock it on the head. To be fair, I think it peaked at around Season 6 and 7. We've been buying every season but we have got as far as 10 and we can't really be arsed now... The most recent ones have been shocking and with each awful episode, the legacy of The Simpsons is becoming tarnished. Indeed they need to stop!
February 7, 201114 yr I caught a few seconds of a new episode of The Simpsons on Sky 1 where Groundskeeper Willie and Mrs Crabapple are walking through the school miming to Ke$ha 'TiK ToK'. It really was the most bizarre 10 seconds of TV I've seen so far this year. I didn't stick around to see what happened next. -_- Edit; sorry, I know this is "retro" but felt the need to post that as it is relevant to the topic (sort of :D ).

I just checked the episode list and I'd say 6 & 7 are when some really weak episodes start creeping in. Series 2-4 have the best ones.
February 8, 201114 yr Was in my first year at JMU and IIRC was upto my ears in grunge and shoegaze at the time with a side measure of metal so chart music wasn't high on my agenda but here's my view 01. KLF Featuring The Children Of The Revolution - 3AM Eternal Great #1 from a groundbreaking band 02. Simpsons - Do The Bartman No didn't like this 03. 2 In A Room - Wiggle It chart tripe 04. Nomad Featuring MC Mikee Freedom - (I Wanna Give You) Devotion Wasn't into this either 05 Praise - Only You nor this 06 EMF - I Believe Did like EMF and I thought their second album (Stigma) was even better 07. Kylie Minogue - What Do I Have To Do? Light weight pop chaff 08. Soho - Hippy Chick {1991} Obviously the sample helped immeasurably 09. Rick Astley - Cry For Help awful 10. Vanilla Ice - Play That Funky Music Seriously don't remember this Of the rest 11. Seal - Crazy Last thing he did that was any good 14. C&C Music Factory Featuring Freedom Williams - Gonna Make You Sweat quite liked this 28. Belinda Carlisle - Summer Rain Was always up for a bit of Belinda 29. The Farm - All Together Now I loathed this - mainly because it was the opposite feeling to all the hate students were getting among the local scally kids when I was living in Everton 39. Free - All Right Now {1991} 41. Julian Cope - Beautiful Love A true genius and visionary (drug induced or not) 42. Jesus Jones - International Bright Young Thing 43. Jellyfish - The King Is Half Undressed Really really good power pop 45. Patsy Cline - Crazy {1990} 47. Milltown Brothers - Which Way Should I Jump? Completely forgotten now but this is a great track 55. Dinosaur Jr - The Wagon Not my favourite Dinosaur Jr. track but it's ok 64. That Petrol Emotion - Tingle Soooo underrated it's not true. Brilliant band but not their best 65. Madonna - Justify My Love Loved this - loved MBV when they used the same drum track (well it sounded the same) on an instrumental 68. Them - Baby Please Don't Go {1991} 70. Throwing Muses - Counting Backwards
February 8, 201114 yr 47. Milltown Brothers - Which Way Should I Jump? Completely forgotten now but this is a great track Not by me :) 65. Madonna - Justify My Love Loved this - loved MBV when they used the same drum track (well it sounded the same) on an instrumental It was sampled from a Public Enemy record and I think she got into quite a bit of bother over it. Think I have the MBV track somewhere too - that sounds familiar.
February 8, 201114 yr Not by me :) It was sampled from a Public Enemy record and I think she got into quite a bit of bother over it. Think I have the MBV track somewhere too - that sounds familiar. Forgot it was a PE sample! The MBV track was on a free 7" given away with Isn't Anything when it was released.
February 12, 201114 yr Some good stuff in there, particularly these 01. KLF Featuring The Children Of The Revolution - 3AM Eternal 06 EMF - I Believe - Nothing like as good as Unbelievable but still good 11. Seal - Crazy - Easily the better of the two songs called Crazy in the chart at the time 13. Enigma - Sadness Part 1 15. Oleta Adams - Get Here 29. The Farm - All Together Now 32. Jimmy Somerville With Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy (1991 Remix) 37. Railway Children - Every Beat Of The Heart 39. Free - All Right Now {1991} 41. Julian Cope - Beautiful Love 42. Jesus Jones - International Bright Young Thing - A big hit in the US as well 55. Dinosaur Jr - The Wagon 65. Madonna - Justify My Love - Never much of a fan of Madge but I did like this one 73. The Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' {1990} - A true classic 74. Orbital - Satan Some real dross as well but we won't dwell on that.
February 14, 201114 yr Yeah, it was interesting how the US embraced the sound of EMF and Jesus Jones. They both scored number ones over there, something neither managed in the UK.
February 14, 201114 yr 01. KLF Featuring The Children Of The Revolution - 3AM Eternal - Great #1. Still fresh 20 yrs on imo. 02. Simpsons - Do The Bartman - My Dad bought me this on 7" vinyl!!! I have to admit, this is still a guilty pleasure of mine and is a reflection of the show in it's golden days. 20 yrs on, it's looking tired and is only on as FOX want to break the record. 03. 2 In A Room - Wiggle It - Nah 04. Nomad Featuring MC Mikee Freedom - (I Wanna Give You) Devotion - I quite like this :) 05 Praise - Only You - Meh. 06 EMF - I Believe - Nah. 07. Kylie Minogue - What Do I Have To Do? - Great tune from Kylie. This showed signs of her maturing. 08. Soho - Hippy Chick {1991} - Cool song and great use of The Smiths Sample. 09. Rick Astley - Cry For Help - Nah 10. Vanilla Ice - Play That Funky Music - Double NAH!! 11. Seal - Crazy - Great song, classic 20 yrs on. 12. Queen - Innuendo - Underrated song from the boys of Queen. I really love this, and whenever I listen to this it makes me sad as this was Freddie's final year. 13. Enigma - Sadness Part 1 - Love this!!! 14. C&C Music Factory Featuring Freedom Williams - Gonna Make You Sweat - Nah. 15. Oleta Adams - Get Here - Beautiful ballad. Classic. 16. Robert Palmer - Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You - Nah. 18. A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It? - No you can't :P 22 The Source - You Got The Love - Easily the best version of this song. 29. The Farm - All Together Now - It strikes me more as a football chant than a serious song. 33. Whitney Houston - All The Man That I Need - Has a dirty version in my house as "He fills me up, with his willy wonka!" but aside from that, although it does pop in my head - I like it :) 40. Mariah Carey - Someday - Mariah at her peak. This song really packs a punch and one of her best. 50. Bananarama - Preacher Man - My ex collected all of Bananarama's back catalogue and I may say this was a welcome change from their poppy stuff. 65. Madonna - Justify My Love - This is a sexy song.
