February 8, 201114 yr I've gone back to around that time when the chart was male-dominated. Here's some posts: If the top 5 looks like this next week in any order 1 B.o.B. 2 Iyaz 3 Jason Derulo 4 Dizzee Rascal 5 Eminem I shall bloody scream, I shall emigrate to Russia, worst top 5 in ages. Look out Pavel here I come Iyaz? Dizzee Rascal? B.o.B? Oh, music, come back. Please. 1. B.o.B 2. Dizzee Rascal 3. Iyaz 4. Jason DeRulo 5. Roll Deep/Usher/Eminem Probably the worst Top 5 ever, if it happened, which looks increasingly likely. Out of the top 50 on iTunes, I found only 6 I could possibly listen to. New Songs 5. Solo - Iyaz 11. Over the Rainbow - Danielle Hope 18. Dirtee Disco (Radio Edit) - Dizzee Rascal (& #195) 19. We Dance On (feat. Bodyrox) [From "StreetDance 3D"]- N-Dubz 25. Wavin' Flag (Coca-Cola Celebration Mix) - K'naan 60. Better Than Love (Radio Edit) - Hurts 66. Not Afraid - Eminem VILE. What a f***ing terrible bunch of new entries. Absolutely vile. That top 10 is SO ridiculously URBAN. Honestly, the charts could almost be American by that aspect sans Edward Maya! And then my post: I personally think this is one of the best top 10 we've had so far this year! My least favourite song is Eenie Meenie, and even that is not that bad. Seriously though. That whole thread was so cruel. :( Everybody just seemed bitter that Iyaz wasn't a one-hit wonder, like they were claiming he would be. Dizzee got off to a slow start, and everybody was happy about that (they were like, serves him right, the song's dreadful, blah blah blah), but he got to #1 on iTunes a day later and everybody started hating on him again (again, probably being bitter that they were proven wrong). Same with Not Afraid wasn't even in the top 60 on iTunes after the first day, so people were saying it might miss the top 40, yet it entered at #5. But overall, some people were so OTT. :( And someone also claimed 9 out of the top 10 were RnB songs... February 9, 201114 yr Just 3 weeks after that we had an all-female top 4: 1 2 2 Rihanna Only Girl (In The World) 2 1 2 Cheryl Cole Promise This 3 N 1 Alexis Jordan Happiness 4 6 3 Katy Perry Firework Wasn't that the first ever top 4 consisting of only female solo artists (according to Music Week anyway)? That just seemed like a very odd record, how could this have not happened once until 2010?
February 9, 201114 yr This in bold is an rap song, doesn't that count as urban? It is? Then i'd remove it, and add Wombats - Jump Into The Fog added at the bottom of the list. Actually, i'm surprised I only had to go down as far as #49 to compile this list - sometimes it feels to me like the whole T75 is urban - generally when I'm trying to watch the Sky music channels... ;)

February 9, 201114 yr Drum n bass and dubstep are also considered urban Really? I consider them to be Dance.
February 9, 201114 yr Really? I consider them to be Dance. Yeah, they're that aswell. I've heard of dubstep being urban too. I was reading Benga's biography (yeah, I'm really sad ), and it referred to dubstep being urban too. Also, Radio 1Xtra do a chart. It's based on sales, but only urban songs chart (except they're VERY liberal with what's considered urban, like they've charted songs such as Broken Heels, Dynamite and Only Girl there, in the past, which are pretty much 0% urban, imo). http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/chart/singles/ Other things about that chart are that they remove songs after 20 weeks on the chart (I guess if you only include urban songs, it can move quite slowly otherwize), and the sales period they use is Saurday-Friday, I think. But my point is, on the 1Xtra chart, they charted Chase & Status at #6 and #37, so I guess they consider it urban too. Edited February 9, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob

I tend to lump sub-genres like grime, etc. into the hip-hop/rap category, because to my ears there's very little differnce. Styles like dubstep, etc. I lump in with Dance, i.e. non-urban. BTW, on a separate note : are there *any* white female rappers - offhand I can't think of a single one?

February 9, 201114 yr Nicki Minaj ... She's been everywhere! If she's white, than I'm Michael Jackson...
February 9, 201114 yr hmmm....really think you should make it 3 charts, male, female and any collaboration/mixed song should be in a third 'transexual' chart!
February 9, 201114 yr How about having charts such as Male Chart (Males only) Female Chart (Females Only) Male & Female Chart (Male & Female, Male Ft. Female, Male vs. Female) Female & Male Chart (Female & Male, Female Ft. Male, Female Vs Male) Group Chart (Assorted Male & Female, Female Ft. Male/Female, Male Ft. Female/Male) That would sort out the issue with Glee Cast, N-Dubz and Black Eyed Peas Edited February 9, 201114 yr by soundseekerz
February 9, 201114 yr BTW, on a separate note : are there *any* white female rappers - offhand I can't think of a single one? There's white females that "rap" in songs. Ke$ha and Fergie, for example. They're not "rappers", but they rap in some of their songs, in the same way that B.o.B., T.I., Eminem, etc. sing in some of their songs, even though you wouldn't call them "singers". I guess there's Cher Lloyd aswell. But again, she's not a "rapper", but she raps in some of her performances.

However, I think we've still not proven there are *any* white female rappers, in terms of specialising in the genre exclusively, as Eminem, Jay-Z etc. do.
February 10, 201114 yr I wonder which chart Justin Bieber would chart on :P He'd chart on the male chart.
