Yeah, "Downfall" is a great piece of cinema for sure and Bruno Ganz's portrayal of Hitler is frankly superb, the thing is though, at least Downfall was made by a director who hadn't done cheesy musicals (before this he'd done the rather superb "Das Experiment")...

Maybe this cheesy musical director is about redeem themselves?

Is there a chance of that?

Yeah, well, maybe if you do it in stages... Cheesy musical, romantic comedy, comedy thriller, thriller, drama, biopic.... There.....

I can't wait for this

Meryl streep in a film. I can't pass on that. I already predict yet another oscar nom for her. That shot of her as Maggie is scary. Scary uncanny

I've watched the clip about 50 times now, I love the cheeky little grin she does. I am QUITE the Merly FAN though.
Woah! This looks brilliant and I had no idea it was Meryl Streep until it said :o

See, that's what i love about Meryl. Doesn't play a character, she physically and mentally plays a character. One of the rare actresses to ever have lived who can do that

She will be up for an oscar no doubt. However she will have competition. There is loads of buzz of Michelle William's performance in My Week With Marilyn. I reckon it could be head to head with them.

She deserves one now though, it's been so long since she last won and look at all the amazing roles she's had since then.
So am I the only one that isn't impressed? It just seems to be Meryl Streep playing Meryl Streep; fitting in as many facial quirks as she can in the space of 10 seconds. I may not be expert, but Thatcher didn't really seem the smiling type.

I'm quite sure this film will be taking more liberties with history than just Thatcher's stony demeanour! And of course there are very few people who would've been present during intimate conversations between she and her advisers or fellow politicians and I doubt those who were will have been involved in the making of this film. So yes, liberties will be taken and it won't be a blow-for-blow account of her political career. The trick will be to enjoy it for the insight if gives into one of the great icons of our time (and no, by great I don't mean fabulous but rather most important and controversial).

My second point was more of a joke than a serious point, I understand that this is their interpretation, and it's first job is to entertain, but I fear they are making an attempt at 'glorifying her' and Meryl just seems to be phoning in a stock performance. This is all being judged on one teaser of course, and I will wait until I see it before I make a proper verdict.

I think it's the right kind of odd to make it eyecatching for the right reasons as opposed to a total WTF reaction.

Sorry, but I dont remember Maggie Thatcher being even a fraction this attractive...... GOD, have they just totally airbrushed Meryl Streep or what....??

TBH, I think this looks a bit like a pic on a "Straight to DVD" thriller......

Not sure what straight to DVD 'thrillers' you've been watching in that case :D
