September 24, 201113 yr It is a fairly APT tagline for the film. I'm sure various people are going to despise this no matter what way they play it just because they can't get beyond their hatred for Thatcher, but I am very excited to see how they play it.
September 24, 201113 yr "Never compromise" HAHA. Yeah, fukkin' cheesy or what....??? Sounds like it should be a tagline for a Van Damme or Steven Segal movie...
September 26, 201113 yr Grimly are you intending on approaching this film with any kind of objectivity whatsoever when you do actually see it? You seem to have decided simply on account of the subject matter that it's a crapfest.

October 28, 201113 yr I can't help but think that taking out Big Ben and the other tallish tower from the image of the Houses of Parliament and, because of the way it goes into Meryl's neckline, it looks a bit like an Imperial Star Destroyer. Fitting really.
October 28, 201113 yr It'll be interesting to see how they portray her- bearing in mind it's a US production and international politicians tend to be seen in a better light in other countries than they do in their own- Gorbachov is another instance. All politicians have good and bad points- they're human after all so the balance will be the trick here. Looking forward to it.
October 28, 201113 yr Looking forward to this. I admire and love Maggie and she was the best PM ever so hope they do her justice.

October 28, 201113 yr The most worrying thing about this film is that since Meryl Streep is playing the Thatcher I may possibly find myself attracted to the evil cow. If so can someone please kill me?
November 2, 201113 yr The most worrying thing about this film is that since Meryl Streep is playing the Thatcher I may possibly find myself attracted to the evil cow. If so can someone please kill me? Poison, gunshot or blow to the head...?

You seem to have decided simply on account of the subject matter that it's a crapfest. And why should I be happy about yet another f***ing American playing a famous BRITISH historical figure.... ? <_< Seriously, like we dont have talented actresses of our own for this part...??
November 2, 201113 yr And why should I be happy about yet another f***ing American playing a famous BRITISH historical figure.... ? <_< Seriously, like we dont have talented actresses of our own for this part...?? Maybe none of them would touch it with a bargepole so they realised they'd be better off going for a talented foreign actress?
November 2, 201113 yr Maybe they chose Meryl because she'll play the role WELL and bring the film more attention? Just a thought. I'm not sure I can think of any British actress who would play the role as well as Meryl prsumably will do.
November 2, 201113 yr Meryl is clearly one of the finest female actors in the world and I whilst I do think there are plenty of excellent British actors capable of the role (Miranda Richardson and Helen Mirren to name but two) what is certain is that the studio/director would've wanted a star name to sell the movie. For all we know loads of Brits auditioned but didn't nail it as well as Meryl AND have that star quality needed or they simply didn't want to be associated with a figure that is very devisive to public opinion. Anyway the Americans can have Thatcher. We've got Batman!

I don't understand this logic whatsoever. If the role is acted well then you won't watch it thinking 'that's an American playing Margaret Thatcher', you'll watch it thinking 'that's Margaret Thatcher'.

True, but Batman is a fictional character, ergo, anyone could potentially play him... ;) Miranda Richardson would've nailed it totally, I think... Heck, they could've just waited 10 years or so and given the job to Kate Winslett... Or maybe 15 years and given it to Andrea Reisborough, who frankly did a great job of playing Young Maggie in "Long Walk From Finchley"...
