Posted February 13, 201114 yr so...i have not ever been scared by watching a movie...but, its probably because i havent seen enough scary movies some movies i've seen that i havent found scary are Psycho( maybe its because i knew beforehand about the shower scene and the staircase stabbing scene), Saw,The Omen (newer one), the hitcher.... But, I really want to watch a movie that will scare me...so please recommend some movies? thanks
February 13, 201114 yr I love a bit of horror. I recommend you watch the original The Ring and The Eye. I saw REC for the first time yesterday and that made me jump as well so go watch that.
February 13, 201114 yr I reiterate The Descent and [REC.] The Blair Witch Project will most likely always remain my most scary movie ever. Jeepers Creepers is also pretty good (at least the first half) I haven't seen it in years but it terrified me when I was younger, had a few sleepless nights over that one  The Descent l5I1q4KhKNU [REC.] OeaUokzE9fI Blair Witch Project D51QgOHrCj0 Jeepers Creepers ouUO42AkZV0 Them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFTbcDRkG1o which was remade into The Strangers is decent. And depending on where you stand, there are a few other French films like Martyrs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNM9kKo4JNU which are quite good, but some people think they are too extreme. EDIT: Also, Wolf Creek is v v good. Best to watch without reading about it, as it works best with its shocks in tact. QEpvw51xubU Edited February 13, 201114 yr by Daniel II
February 13, 201114 yr I second Ringu and Ju-on Also recommend The Shining The Omen Haute Tension Let The Right One In The Thing The Exorcist Nosferatu Alien Texas Chainsaw Massacre Honogurai Mizu No Soko Kara (Dark Water) as among the best ever made
February 13, 201114 yr Since I've double posted I'll add in Hellraiser Halloween A Nightmare On Elm Street Edited February 13, 201114 yr by Severin
February 13, 201114 yr These are the scariest/best horror movies I can think of: Rosemary's Baby Black Christmas (1974) Halloween (1978) Dawn Of The Dead (1978) Alien The Shining The Silence Of The Lambs The Descent A few that have some nostalgia for me: Scream The Sixth Sense The Others
February 13, 201114 yr Nice call Severin with Let the Rigt One In and Alien. Although while I would class LTROI as horror I don't find it scary as such. Same goes for most of the critically acclaimed horrors, I can appreiciate the craft though.

Yeah with LTROI whilst the film itself isn't scary if you think about the climax and her ultimate intentions throughout the film the ending is not only incredibly sinister and manipulative but makes her quite a scary character
February 13, 201114 yr [rec] for sure! also a film called elephant. it's not scary in the traditional sense of blood, guts and making you jump but it's cos it's about a school shooting and just so realistic and eerie. i couldnt ever watch it again cos it's scarred me for life but definitely recommend it :P it's really powerful..
February 13, 201114 yr My top 10 horror films (purely personal) would be: The Haunting (the original 1963 one - not the purely ridiculous remake with Liam Neeson and Owen Wilson) The Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (SCI-FI really - but really scary because of the time it was made with the 'Cold War' and everything) ... the remake with Donald Sutherland was quite good too Halloween ... Donald Pleasance at his 'ssssplendid best' The Wicker Man (again ... the original ... and probably more 'disturbing' than scary) Race With The Devil Dementia 13 I found this scary but still can't fathom out why! The Thing ... on this occasion ... the John Carpenter remake - not just one of the best horror/sci fi films - just plain one of the best films ever made The Changeling - this was a really overlooked little horror film with George C Scott - you don't get the chance to see it too often now - but if you do have the chance - watch it Rosemary's Baby - a truly grotesque, gothic horror weirdly juxtapositioned within its contemporary upbeat New York setting Scream - this film actually reinstated my faith in the genre There are a few others - of recent ones I was quite impressed with Cloverfield - although I thought it ended a bit abruptly. I detest all the Saw films with a passion because they're just NOT scary! Kath Edited February 13, 201114 yr by Kathyp
February 13, 201114 yr Oooooh I remember Jeepers Creepers, it definitely used to scare me when I was younger
February 14, 201114 yr The Exorcist. Jeepers Creepers. The Silence of The Lambs. Cannibal Holocaust (disturbing beyond belief). Edited February 14, 201114 yr by its.like.that
February 14, 201114 yr The Shining Irreversible (disturbingly scary......) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) Wolf Creek The Orphanage (again more creepy and disturbing than outright scary) Hallowe'en (original)
February 14, 201114 yr I've heard very good things about 'Martyrs' so I'm deciding to give it a go right now  It's time I saw a decent horror film. The last one I (REALLY) liked was 'Paranormal Activity', I think. My personal favourites; 'Se7en' - I'd say this is more of a shocking thriller (which I also class 'Saw' as) but if people are recommending 'Saw' as a horror franchise, then I think 'Se7en' (which was undoubtedly the inspiration for 'Saw 1') deserves a mention! 'Paranormal Activity' - I've never been so shaken after watching a film in my LIFE. I watched it on my own, on my laptop, lights off and everything. NOT a good idea. I've not watched it on my own, since! 'The Exorcist' - I first watched this when I was about 9 or 10. It scared the living CRAP out of me. I haven't seen much of it since I saw it in full last, because I don't dare watch it all the way through again. 'Poltergeist' - Like 'The Exorcist', I first saw this at a young age and it scared me a bit. Not as much as TE, and unlike TE I can now watch it in full without being disturbed. 'Wolf Creek' - Definitely worth checking out. Absolutely fantastic and has been unfairly under looked, imo. 'Final Destination' - The first one is worth watching, for sure. It's absolutely brilliant and, although I love 2 & 3 too, it's a shame the makers of them have been going for the "fun & gore" element as opposed to the real shock factor that was in the first movie. The concept was brilliant to start with and it truly died with the latest film! 'Black Swan' - More of a psychological thriller, however, it still had it's scary moments! Definitely worth a watch and it will be a classic in a few years time. No doubt! 'The Human Centipede' - Not really scary as such, just absolutely horrific and f***ed up! Knowing that they did research on this and that some procedures CAN in fact be done in real life (apparently), just adds to the realism of this film. It's so OTT, but still realistic. '[Rec]' (1 & 2) - Both fantastic and compelling viewing! Seriously hyped for the 3rd and 4th instalments. Gory as f***, but again, manages to have that touch of realism about it. I'm sure I'm missing some obvious personal favourites of mine but I can't think of any more right now  Will add more once I think of more, that I enjoy!
February 14, 201114 yr Oooooh I remember Jeepers Creepers, it definitely used to scare me when I was younger  I used to be literally TERRIFIED of going to sleep on my own when I was younger because I thought the creeper was going to get me. I had to make sure that my curtains were drawn tight so he couldn't see me, and my covers pulled right over me so he couldn't smell me or tug me from my bed without me realising. I was like 10 at the time to be fair  I think people can fear things rather irrationally when your about to go to sleep, I guess because your loopy with tiredness and at your most vunerable. Also, nice choice russt68 with the Orphange and Irreversible. The Texas Chainsaw got my blood pounding, and was disturbing (especially when the old granny/grandad that looked like a corpse was trying to hit her with a hammer, seriously f***ed up) but never found it particularly scary. I had such high expectations for it as well, same goes for the Exorcist.
February 14, 201114 yr Yeah with LTROI whilst the film itself isn't scary if you think about the climax and her ultimate intentions throughout the film the ending is not only incredibly sinister and manipulative but makes her quite a scary character You have a point about Eli, and the tone was quite cold and chilling, but I found the ending to be moving with ominious undertones rather than flat out sinister. Eli clearly felt a strong connection to Oskar and I thought that he wasn't just intending to use him to be the next guy to find him food. I think I even shed a tear at the ending, which is why I don't really classify it as scary, rather a love story and a story of adolencese told using horror conventions. I've heard very good things about 'Martyrs' so I'm deciding to give it a go right now  It's time I saw a decent horror film. The last one I (REALLY) liked was 'Paranormal Activity', I think. Great! although it leaves you more shaken and disturbed rather than being chilling and unnerving like Paranormal Activity. There was a point I had to stop and have a break because I was shaking so much. Nice to see some more appreciation for Wolf Creek too. I would class Se7en and Final Destination as more of a thriller though. EDIT: And I agree, can't wait for the last two [Rec.] movies, they've done an excellent job of building a mythology to the point where I think a prequel is essential. Also, the ending of the second film means the last film can go pretty much anywhere in terms of scope. Edited February 14, 201114 yr by Daniel II
February 14, 201114 yr So 'Martyrs' was pretty excellent! :o So disturbing, yet beautiful too (in a weird and maybe sick way!) It's such uncomfortable viewing though, but the realism of it all keeps you hooked and makes you want to keep watching to see what happens next. Looking on imdb though, I see "Martyrs" is also on a 2013 release date... Hollywood gonna have a bash at ruining this, too? :drama:
February 14, 201114 yr Scariest film should not necessarily mean jumpy bits, bloodshed and gruesome deaths. In terms of truly unsettling experiences I'd go for The Ring (even the remake) and Hard Candy - the latter really makes me squirm.
