Alright, I need help.

Do I send the song I chose right away to the Host so he compiles a list or will I have to post it on the Confirmation Thread on the 21st?

Things have changed a bit since my last participation so I'm kinda lost. :/

You send it to me, the host, by PM - but only once I've opened the confirmation thread which will be next Monday, probably around 7pm.

Ah, I see! :D

Well I hope I get the one I want, so I'll be hunting for that thread around the time :kink:

Good luck everybody!

After reading this topic I think it's only fair if Helena is banned; thus avoiding another Silly Boy/Release Me pointless style contest.
Which reminds me, apart from the used songs list and the possible banned track/s, is there any other restrictions for our selections?

The only restrictions on entries are these:

- The song can't have been in the Eurovision Song Contest

- The song can not be a cover of a previously entered track, or a previously entered track

- Any song that has not yet been knocked out of a countries Eurovision National Final [For example: Sanna Nielson is still in Sweden's NF and will be available to enter if she fails to win the final]

That's it. Much simpler than previously as there is no ban list.

Of course, every song is now vetted by the moderators but we only reject a couple of tracks per contest because we believe the majority of participants will hear them without BJSC.

Much simpler indeed! [And who would want to use Sanna's MF track anyway? Kill me but in my honest opinion it's disco-schlager crap. :kink: ]

So about that moderators-veto thing, say I had in mind competing with the latest Nicole Sherzinger leak or the latest hyped Swedish radio hit, would I be in danger of having my entry vetoed or do they veto whatever they like? I take it it's better for the contest we participate with new music but there are some jems of the past no one remembered yet! :D

Scherzinger would be vetoed instantly, but the Swedish radio hit would depend. If it had no hype at all here on Buzzjack we'd probably allow it, if it was getting major hype everywhere you looked on the internet it'd probably be vetoed.

The objective is to discover new music, whether thats in the form of a freshly leaked track or a 7 year old track that was never released here it doesn't matter.

Sanna is fantastic and I'm In Love is a fantastic pop-schlager track of the highest quality imo! But each to their own!

You're pretty spot on. If it was a Nicole demo then you'd probably be ok but if you wanted to send Don't Hold Your Breath, it would definitely be banned. I guess it's harder to decide with the 'latest hyped Swedish radio hits' or other internet hype tracks as like the Helena Paparizou track that everybody's talking about, clearly a lot of people have already heard it, but there will still be a lot that haven't, plus it's not really 'cheap'. She's not exactly famed for her record breaking success in the UK :heehee:

I see, I guess I'm gonna have to try my luck. Cuz I have a list, but I see "hype" written all over most of the tracks, even if it's 3 month old hype, but I'll try anyway. :D

Otherwise there's always a new Indie band waiting around the corner! :kink:

Thanks for the help guys!

[i'm In Love is at #12 on my Melodifestivalen 2011 chart. Imagine where it'll end up when all of the songs are heard! :/ ]

You'll probably be ok if the hype's died off by now. I doubt the mods would ban anything unless they felt that they had a real need to a la the latest leaked Britney track or something.

Which four songs do you like even less than it? :o There are actually only 2 songs I don't like out of the 16 so far and that's the songs from Babsan and Brolle.

Jonas Matsson, Babsan, The Moniker and Elisabeth Andreassen in that order.

Jonas was average, Babsan was just a dragshow, The Moniker was painful and Elisabeth was painfully boring. Just above Sanna is Christian Walz which was awful live.

Danny is surprisingly my #1, surprisingly because I was underwhelmed on first listen, and Loreen and Le Kid complete the Top3 with a huge lead over the rest! :kink: :D

I thought that Jonas' song was pleasant enough but it's definitely in my bottom four. Babsan's song was awful and I'm not a fan of drag acts anyway, but I really liked the songs by The Moniker and Elisabeth! Danny's song is above average to me but hardly outstanding but I love the other two in your top three! I expect many of the 31 songs that don't make it to ESC will pop up in BJSC during the course of the year!

Yeah Jonas was pleasant but by no means relevant. Last year's Highlights/MiSt combo had a much better track IMO.

Yes, I do think that about Danny aswell. I think it'll end up in the middle of the results table à lá Agnes, especially with Eric Saade competing against him.

I really liked Loreen on first listen but it's creeping up to be one of my favourite tracks of the year! It's just so sober and elegant and schizophrenic at the same time! Hope it gets to the Final. I would use it for BJSC, but on the other hand I'd veto it because in the end we all know these songs already! :D We should use older MF tracks instead! :kink:

I'm SO entering Loreen if she fails in the Andra Chansen! :D

Bitches you just don't WANT to steal her from me. Seriously.

You'll have to wait until BJSCXXXII as confirmation will have closed for this month before Andra Chansen happens!

I realised it :( Could be too late :drama:

That's bull$h!t.

It was never a given that Release Me would win. It was always one of the favourites (along with Lights and Sound of Arrows), but there always has to be a favourite! Looking back on it it's easy to see it as an extremely unoriginal entry that won due to hype, especially because of the hit it became afterwards, but that was very unexpected. However at the time confirmation started there was relatively little hype around the track, it certainly wasn't all over the internet, and the majority of people who said it was a surefire winner only did so after I said that it was what I was considering as an entry. You can look into my thread when I first posted it for proof.

I know that this is nothing to do with Helena, but I don't like Release Me being put in the same bracket as Eva Simons or Kesha with hindsight, as it certainly wasn't cheap, unoriginal or even a foregone conclusion at the time. It's an entry I'm extremely proud of and I don't want that taken away from me.

Just because you didn't get Release Me until a good long while after the contest

Release Me was far more along the lines of I Don't Know/Boys & Girls in that it was a very clever entry. It was entered before big buzz started to build around the track and before it was commercially successful in the UK.

As Peter said, there wasn't much internet hype around Release Me until well after it won, Silly Boy however was ridiculously overhyped.

Boys & Girls is a completely different kettle of fish altogether.

For all I knew, Pixie was just another random MySpace act with less than 5,000 profile views, destined for obscurity. Neither I Don't Know or Release Me were anything approaching cheap imo but Lily and Agnes were at least established stars in their home country. I had no idea whatsoever that this random teenager singing dated pop would become a huge star and that the song would be a UK #1, so I can't credit it as being a 'clever entry' on my behalf, it was literally the most random thing ever. It would be like Untouched's Smack Me suddenly going to #1 in the UK, it just wouldn't happen.

Obviously there must have been people working with Pixie at the time behind the scenes but it didn't show, the MySpace profile at the time looked incredibly unprofessional and it had had next to no views, to me and everybody else she was a complete nobody, and to this day I don't know how she's managed a successful UK career, NOBODY does that type of pop music anymore and sells records apart from Pixie. It's bizarre...

But back on topic, it's completely unfair to put Release Me in the pointless winner bracket. The lion's share of people would have discovered it via BJSC and to me it was a defining winner which somehow took off in the UK charts (since when does Scandipop ever get a chance here? and then go top 3? - pretty much never). Nobody could have known that Agnes would have a UK smash on her hands with this. It would be the same as the Sheelah song suddenly becoming a top 3 hit in May, it will 99.9% never happen because it won't get any support, but with Agnes, it somehow did. Maybe it's remembered as being cheaper than it actually was because it took off a few months later  I wouldn't even argue that Tik Tok was cheap, that was just a random leak floating about by some chancer who had sung on a Flo Rida record at the time it was entered.
