Well it certainly has more in common with B&G than Silly Boy :P

True.

Poor Eva, everybody thought she'd be the next Rihanna/Gaga  I think that's where half of the hype came from - purely because she was expected to be the next big thing. I've never rated the song that much...generic electropop of which there are 15 entries like it every month.

Take Over Control only got to number 24 in the UK???? :o
I didn't say Release Me was cheap, what I said was it was a given and completley obvious winner before the contest started; which there's no denying it was...

Odds for SF1 from Torchwood:

1/5 - Kingdom Of Shadow: Lights - Ice

1/5 - Botanikka: Natalie Bassingthwaighte - Someday Soon

1/2 - FSR Rontvia: The Sound Of Arrows - M.A.G.I.C

2/1 - Herzebania: Agnes Carlsson - Release Me

3/1 - BoA - Eat You Up

5/1 - Kylienips: Paul Van Dyk ; Jessica Sutta - White Lies

10/1 - Frahliso: Honey Ryder - Choices

12/1 - Torchwood: Ana Johnsson - Coz I Can

12/1 - JRK-off: Shaznay Lewis - Never Felt This Way Before

15/1 - FNT Nickodonia: New Kids On The Block ; Lady Gaga - Big Girl Now

15/1 - Eledan: Anjulie - Boom

20/1 - FNR Tinnmark: Margaret Berger - Samantha

20/1 - Kathaldazia - Stealing Love Jones - Kicks

22/1 - Ojnoj: Yolanda Adams - I Believe

25/1 - Jester's Kingdom: Le Corps Mince de Françoise - Bitch of the Bitches

25/1 - Cascadia: Jocelyn Enriquez - A Little Bit Of Ecstacy

30/1 - Deandria - Hooverphonic - Mad About You

35/1 - Inner Massivia: Melanie Fiona - Give It To Me Right

40/1 - Triodopolis: Corinna Jane - Resistance

60/1 - United States Of Russiatron - Placebo - Running Up That Hill

60/1 - Fervorosia - Soda Club - Heaven Is A Place On Earth

Such a certain winner that you had more confidence in three other songs from its semi-final qualifying before it!

Sorry to dig it up :kink: It was just to prove the point that Agnes WAS heavily tipped to win but it was by no means a foregone conclusion like Silly Boy was, where Eva comprehensively topped every set of odds. Quite a few of us had Agnes at the top of our odds, about half thought that KoS and Lights would win, and a few people thought that Mdice (Little Boots - Earthquake) would win. It was never the one horse race that you remember, there were always 3 or 4 possible victors in this contest.

Yeah, I was about to say - for every person who thought Release Me was going to win, there was another who thought LIGHTS would. People just forget this given LIGHTS comparatively flopped.

Of course, I always thought Release Me was the obvious winner, but then I did have the slight advantage of seeing how the semi-final voting went!

6th for Lights was a massive shock to everyone I think. I was glad that M.A.G.I.C. ended up second though as I didn't think it would crossover in such a big way. I definitely wasn't expecting it to finish top three.

My favourite part of the whole pre-contest banter that month was Peter's constant insistence that Release Me would finish 9th or something and that it definitely wasn't a winner! Nonsuch were the worst culprits for playing down the fortunes of their hyped entries though, except oddly in this very contest where he was certain that this Nerina Pallot track was not only a certain winner but would end 2009 as the year's biggest seller in the UK  Even Phil's hyperbole doesn't go to this extreme!

Rich did lose it a fair bit towards the end though - I remember him suggesting when I entered Suzie McNeil that he thought a dull MoR X Factor-style tie-in she did for the Winter Olympics was a certain winner  I think I'd have been looking at a DNQ had I sent that instead of Help Me Out!

 I remember. I think it was greeted with the usual  and no comment from me. The only time he was ever proved right iirc was with Tinchy/Amelle with what he proclaimed to be 'nu Umbrella', which indeed did finish low top ten for him as he predicted, and that actually massively surprised me.

I thought Lights would end up the winner.

I never over hype my entries :P I usually sit and play down their chances.

But i will concede that in general i am superb at Hyperbole, i have it down to an art. TiP was just taking the p***.

I think I might need to freshen up my sources for new music, it's actually pretty tough to find good music blogs...:(

Same here. Whatever nose for original and inspired entries I had in 2009, I've completely lost it. My inspiration has crashed in the past 6 months, I've just sort of been stumbling across entries that luckily aren't cheap. I used to spend hours and hours hunting for the perfect song, but I never do anymore...I've forgotten where to look!

I'll have to ask Phil, he seems to be on a roll with the inspired differentiated entries recently!

My secret weapon is Youtube and just clicking on related videos until i find something amazing.

My most inspired period (imo) was XI-XX and it was;

Pixie - Myspace

Vincent - Youtube

The Sound of Arrows - blog? can't honestly remember

Uh Huh Her - My iTunes! I downloaded this randomly in 2008 and thought it had BJSC potential when it came on shuffle

Emiliana Torrini - Youtube after a google search looking for Icelandic songs for a similar CHC contest

Blank feat Young Ivy - blog

Beautiful Small Machines - blog

Example - When I saw him supporting Calvin Harris! I thought 'this is euphoric and amazing', and then I couldn't find it until about 3 months later, hence the 'Neon Cloud' mix when 2 minutes of it finally surfaced on MySpace

Hafdis Huld - Ghosty's chart!

Anna Abreu - Buzzjack! Canadian Aaron I think posted the thread about it and only me and Tom Kay bothered replying I think before it sank without trace, as all threads do if they're not in relation to big stars.

Note when I say blog, I'm usually referring to TMBP, which is almost useless for discoveries these days. Everything I youtube on their top 30 of each month which I don't already know is usually hideous. Quite a mix of sources actually...

TMBP was one of the first music blogs I started frequenting when I decided to search blogs for music.....but then I think you mentioned you go to it too and it didn't feel like my only secret place anymore. :drama:

I don't go to it much more either, I have other places now. Not amazing ones either but they'll have to do...

Pixie Lott is so awful. I liked her when she was obscure. :(
OMG I found my perfect entry  but the artist was used last contest :o

Is there aany rule???

As long as the artist didn't come top 3, then it should be fine to enter.
