How is it a disappointing comeback? It sold 130k in its first week and went top 3 with 34 hours of sales and last week it gave GaGa her biggest sales week EVER, all without a video

Because it's already tumbling on Itunes... My money it will never reach the sales or popularity of 'Bad romance', 'Pokerface' or 'Telephone' in the long run.

Five words: The Time (The Dirty Bit)

Why do people love to call a song flop when it has charted for such a small time? Do you expect a song without video or promo to be as successful as it would have been with video etc.? It's been released on Friday..if it's official release was on Monday it would have been number 1 100%!

There was so much hype surrounding the release of BTW, it was expected to go to number 1. After its peek it has kept falling, no one is interested in it. Only the video can save it now. You gotta admit it has been a disapointing start to the BTW era

But 'The time' was far far far from being #4 on the Airplay Chart by this time. 'Born this say' is all over the radios, and yet is falling down down down...

Seriously, who thinks it will be bigger than BR, PF, JD, etc. ?

It'll easily sell as much as, if not more than, Telephone, and if a song needs to sell as much as Poker Face or Bad Romance to avoid being a 'flop' there are only a handful of songs that aren't flops  The fact of the matter is it premiered less than 2 weeks ago and has already sold well over 150,000 copies without any major promotion and without a video. You would have to have some kind of extremely twisted logic to say that comes anywhere close to a 'flop' or 'disappointing'.

Born This Way may not be bigger, but Lady GaGa's got a second single coming out before the album. Her second singles always seem to do well (Poker Face, Telephone). Anyway BTW will get a big boost from the video and will shoot to number one on iTunes, even if it doesn't go there officially. And BTW did have a lot of promotion before it was released, so it missing number one and falling rapidly down the chart is a 'flop' and is very 'disappointing' :(

And you got the likes of Jessie J, who hasnt the fanbase of Gaga and she has kept at the top of Itunes and the charts since its release back in the end of Jan.

Price tag was also the first single to top the UK Singles Chart after being released to radio and retail on the same day, following a new "On Air, On Sale" initiative by Universal Music.

and its stll going strong :)

At the time of Price Tag's release Jessie J had just about the most hype an artist could ever ask for, coming off the back of another big hit just a few weeks earlier and also both the Sound of 2011 AND the BRITs Critics' Choice Award. It had also been receiving airplay since about November regardless of what the media will have you believe. GaGa didn't have close to the same hype and she released her single 2 hours after the world first heard it, compared to what, 2 months for Jessie?

Also it has a video which is completely crucial in a song holding up in the chart, note how GaGa does *not* have a video. And if you want to use the 'GaGa has huge airplay' argument, I'll point you to the airplay chart where Price Tag is #1, while Born This Way is only #4. I'll also point out the video for 'Price Tag' is #1 while the video for Born This Way is... oh wait, there isn't one.

I will admit when is actually a flop! If that had a regular release on sunday/monday it would have been number 1!Mistake: Probably cause it has possibilities not to reach number 1! Plus, i've said it again...just because people in this forum know a lot of stuff about releases and artists doesn't mean a regular buyer must know everything! Give it it's time and then call it a flop! For me, a disappointing start = if after the video the song don't climb and vanish in a few weeks (don't think so)!

If being all over the net, the comparisons to Express Yourself, the Grammy Egg stunt, the condom outfit, the constant radio plays, arnt considerd as promo then what is???

Its the lead single from a new Gaga era, the hype from her camp expected us all to belive that BTW would change the world and would be like nothing we have heard b4... Its all aload of poo!! It may or may not sell more then her other singles, but as a lead single form a so called highly anticipated album not getting number 1 can be considerd as disapointing.

Ok can people now STOP with the NO MAJOR PROMOTION thing? It is getting ridiculous.

Nowadays 90% of the music sells on HYPE and AIRPLAY, 'Born this way' has been the most hyped song ever as long as I can remember, and it has already got a massive radio support. Yes, she has no video to play on some second rated video channels yet, but she has MASSIVE hype and huge airplay, and she happened to perform it at the Grammys too (with a massive coverage about her performance). That should be enough to keep her in the top 3 by now, if it wasn't underperforming. I don't even get how people can discuss it...

Major promotion. No one in the UK gives a damn about the Grammys and when I say 'promotion' I mean as in GaGa coming to the UK and promoting it herslef ie. performing it.

It didn't get to #1 because it was released 34 hours before the chart cutoff point. In that time it sold 61k which would have been enough for #1 on a slightly below average sales week against songs with 168 hours of sales. And going up to 7 days after it premiered it had already sold 130k, more than every first week sale last year except Cheryl Cole who had weeks of airplay and X Factor promotion beforehand, Helping Haiti which bends the rules as a charity song Matt Cardle which bends the rules as an X Factor winner's single. It did all of this without any prior airplay at all (unless you count the 2 hour gap between premiere and release as 'prior airplay').

No hype surrounding Gaga, lol dont make me laugh..even if Jessie J had been on the Radio since Nov... Gaga supposinly is the biggest thing in music at the moment and the BTW release had been in the news for a good few weeks proir to its release.

If you consider Jessie J as getting more hype then Gaga then good for her, not bad for new talent with only 2 singles :)

If you see GaGa's success so far as 'underperforming' or 'disappointing' your expectations were RIDICULOUSLY high, end of story.

Oh COME ON, don't pretend to be a fool ! We are in the 21st century, performing on 'This morning' or on the 'Alan Carr Show' isn't what major promotion is nowadays.

Major promotion = big hype + big airplay + media coverage. GaGa has the best promotion she could get at the mo.

It was cos all her crazy monsters had been brain washed into downloading a song they had never heard b4.

If the general music public liked it and thought wow this woman is talented then they would have got it to number 1, just like they did with Adele :)

Hehe I love how you don't say a word about my whole argument about what major promotion is nowadays. At least you're not denying it now, but only avoiding it. ^_^
