Young Blood could be yet ANOTHER song by an indie/rock band making the top 100, we've had so many in the past few weeks (6 including this week, to be precise) :o

Beady Eye - The Roller

The Vaccines - Post Break-Up Sex

The Wombats - Jump Into The Fog

Noah And The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.

Neon Trees - Animal

Muse - Feeling Good*

Paramore - The Only Exception*

White Lies - Bigger Than Us*

Florence + The Machine - Dog Days Are Over* (slightly debatable)

Coldplay - Fix You*

The Kooks - She Moves In Her Own Way*

Two Door Cinema Club - What You Know

The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition*

You Me At Six and Chiddy - Rescue Me

Mumford & Sons - The Cave*

Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man*

Arcade Fire - Ready To Start

Mumford & Sons - Timshel

Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror*

Cage The Elephant - Shake Me Down

And this week:

Foo Fighters - Rope

The Naked And Famous - Young Blood (possibly)

Elbow - Neat Little Rows (probably)

Okay, so quite a few of these were already top 100 hits before W/E 5 Feb 2011 (marked with a *) but even if you take them out that's 13 indie/rock bands débuting in 6 weeks - either indie is starting to come back, or loads of indie bands are just randomly deciding to release their songs within a few weeks of each other.

I'm not even a particularly huge indie/rock fan, but even I'm starting to get bored of its near complete absence from the top 40 - even the amazing songs from the genre have been doing bugger all, which just seems a little unjust - I've bolded the ones that I like - more than I thought :o

Yeah, more than I thought for me too. I thought if I were to be given a list of 20 indie/rock/whatever songs, I would've expected to only like 2 of them, so I'm mildly proud of myself.

And I haven't even heard all the ones on that list, so there might be a couple more too.

Great to see Tiesto and Dr Dre still climbing. Hopefully, they both go top 10.

What's with the random Price Tag version at #11 all of a sudden?

I agree. I just want something to go top 10. How can Grenade still be there? Is there no other good music for people to buy? :drama: I'm at the point where I don't care what goes top 10 on iTunes anymore. If it's another version of Price Tag, if Do it Like a Dude or Who's That Chick? climb back in, I don't care. I Need a Doctor and C'mon definitely deserve to be top 10 on iTunes, but I'm at the point where I'd even want a song I hate to do it, just to move the chart around! :drama:

I think it's in Buzzjack's best interest that something can go top 10 on iTunes soon. I'm sure Black and Yellow will come and save us soon (:)), but with nothing happening in the upper regions of the chart, Buzzjack might be losing visitors. Something NEEDS to be done!!!!

Oh, and the version of Price Tag at #11 is one of the album versions.

It will only come back when new bands arrive and start doing well chart-wise (like Suede in 1993, The Strokes in 2001, or Franz Ferdinand in 2004). The only one we've had of that is The Vaccines (let's not call Beady Eye a new band when they're clearly not) and they didn't really do that well considering they were supposed to be the "saviours!111" as I read in one paper not long ago.

And a lot of these are down to coincidence, anyway - Two Door Cinema Club were on an advert, Arcade Fire and Mumford & Sons from the BRITs. There have been a few big name comebacks like Elbow, Foo Fighters, White Lies that were never really going to miss the chart. Neon Trees were big in America and the song itself is very poppy, anyway. I'm surprised that didn't do better, actually, considering. Beady Eye still have the Oasis fanbase, The Wombats are one of the few indie acts semi chart-relevant before this month.

So I hate to be the one to p*** on the fire (again), but I fail to see any comeback - I think the latter is more accurate :D

You really do say some odd things at times

because Grenade won't leave the top 10? your mini rants do amuse me though :D

 I think it's true in a way though. Like when Born This Way was first released, I'd bet a lot that Buzzjack got a lot more visitors than usual.

Yeah we did... they soon buggered off :(

I agree with you but I can hope.

Kasabian did really well in 2009 with 'Fire' and 'West Ryder...' but that failed to kickstart a new wave of indie :( Although I suppose they weren't a new band.

Oh, wow, you actually did!? :o

On the bright side, the same could happen when Judas is released.

I agree with you but I can hope.

Oh I'll definitely join you in hoping. I'm not just coming on here to p*** on the fire because I hate that kind of music - it's actually my fave genre :D

I don't think an old band really can start any revival. I mean, maybe it's possible, but throughout history when that kind of music makes a comeback it's ALWAYS started by a completely new band. I guess it's easier for the public/the music industry to get excited about a new band than it is an old band, though. And a new band brings with it something fresh rather than the same old, same old sound.

Eventually, the public probably will get bored of this kind of dance-influenced pop and urban music, but will it be guitars they turn to? Maybe.

2011 is/will be a pretty huge year in terms of chart alternative acts releasing in general, though - Radiohead, PJ Harvey have released new albums, The Strokes, R.E.M., Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Blink-182, U2 are releasing very soon/supposedly this year. Then there's other stuff like Elbow, Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Fleet Foxes, Noah and the Whale etc. This will probably only be reflected in the albums chart though, and maybe in the lower reaches of the singles

Using livepopbars.com, Jessie's top 3 versions are 66.5% of Adele's top 2 versions when combined.

Done another check on livepopbars.com and Jessie is still falling, down to 64.2% now (as always, a bit closer when factoring in the fourth version outside the top 100)

I wish Hold It Against Me would go back to the top 10.

Lady gaga Gaining ON rihanna

I really Love HIAM shame where it is :(

I remain convinced as well that Within Temptation have all the necessary ingredients to be successful on the singles chart. They're just never promoted at all in the UK. Album is released on 28th March, listen to the lead single and tell me it doesn't have a brilliant Top 40 hook:
