Anyone else looking forward to this?

I've long waited for a decent alien invasion movie and this could be it. Filmed as though it were a realistic event and taking inspiration from War Films like Black hawk Down rather than Disaster Movies like Independence Day or Skyline. It also had the support of the US military for advice and training and takes the WWII Batlle Of Los Angeles for it's premise.

If this is as well done as I hope than it could be excellent.

Looks excellent. I've heard stuff about this from friends and stuff, but it actually looks a lot better than I imagined.
This looks pretty good, at first I thought it was some sort of war movie set in the future without the alien touch to it.

I went to see it tonight with my kid. We both thought 'Well - that was OK!' Sadly - that's it! But for £11.50 - I'd hoped for more.

It was the usual old 'a Marine never quits' or 'a Marine never leaves a buddy behind' which is all very nice and well - but could we have an excellent film in the midst of it please? The camera work was too frenetic. I know that all the jumpiness and jerkiness of the camera adds to the 'realism' ... but sometimes you can't see anything bloody well happening. I mean - Starship Troopers did the same thing and although the acting was 100% hammier - at least you could SEE what was happening!

I'd give it 6/10 - but really - save your cinema money and just watch it on DVD.

You know what? In fact - just watch Starship Troopers - its honestly a better film.

I haven't been to the cinema in forever. £11.50?!

That was total. I think it was £6.50 for me and £5.00 for the kid!

Absolute PISH, just basically a 2-hour recruiting advert for the US Marines.... -_-

And I am really getting sick to the back teeth of every two-bit Hollywood hack thinking they're Paul Greengrass and attempting the whole "documentary-style shaky cam" thing... I mean, seriously FUKK OFF YOU DONT HAVE A FRACTION OF GREENGRASS' TALENT......

I echo this, just a waste of money, I should have watched Unknown instead of this with Liam Neeson

The cinema is such an expensive gamble these days. Seriously - you may find you would have wasted your money on the Neeson film too. I wouldn't have gone to see the Battle Los Angeles film if it wasn't for the fact my son wanted to go (and even he said afterwards - meh!)

My housemate went to watch this and said they almost got kicked out of the cinema because they were laughing so hard. Apparently it's 'very American' and 'very shit'.

I just found it very 'so what?' I neither liked it nor disliked it (apart from that frigging camera-work). But I find that even more annoying. Cinema prices are just too high to walk out thinking 'I could've waited for that to come on TV' knowing that even then - if there was a Columbo or Midsomer Murders on the other side - I still wouldn't watch it!

Very American is enough for me never to watch this.

Your house-mate is pretty much on the mark... I'm just wondering when on earth someone is going to give Michelle Rodriguez a role which isn't "standard, tough, kick-ass Latina chick".... I mean, JEEZ, cant they give a part as a lawyer or something...? She's just getting so type-cast now....

When that sort of camera-work is done well, it's incredibly effective and puts you into the heart of the action along with the protagonist... When it's done badly (like this film), it gives you frigging motion sickness.... Hand-held "shaky cam" doesn't mean you forget to frame your shots properly, the thing with, say, Paul Greengrass is, that he does frame the shots extremely well, whereas this guy just seems to chuck the camera around because he imagines it'll "look cool" like "that British guy who did Bourne...".

I love hand-held camera work (one of the reasons I loved Hill Street Blues) but in a bog-standard film like this (in fact - a lot of films today) it was just done to mask inadequaties.

PS - mind you - whilst we're on the subject of sh/te films did you watch The Happening last night? What a load of tosh! When is this M Night Shyamalan going to make a decent film? The Sixth Sense was good (a tad overrated but good) and he's done nowt but sh/te since.

Which is why critics are still very relevant, despite what some people say, I no longer go to see a film without reading reviews and getting the general word of mouth first. Unless, of course, it's something which I know I'm going to see regardless of what people say for personal reasons (e.g. Harry Potter, although to be fair, reviews for the latest film have been generally positive).

Oh God, that film is pure comic gold, me and my friends had this playing when we where getting ready to go out, and when that infamous soliliquy came up, we literally could not stop laughing, and ended up being late because we stayed to finish it, just so we could take the p***.

I've been looking through his resume and realised that the best thing that Shyamalan has done is the original screenplay for Stuart Little. My god - anyone who makes up a middle name like 'Night' is a prick-and-a-half!
