I still can't believe that "Better than today" and "The One" are her worst performing singles in terms of chart position in the UK. She has certainly released other songs which deserved to do badly but both are credible songs which deserved to do much better. I think music has changed and the market is currently swamped by urban music and Kylie's style of music doesnt perhaps appeal to the general public but she will continue to have a core fan base of supporters.

Well the one wasnt a full release as such so i can see why it under performed as it wasnt promoted etc but better than today did, i agree though both deserved so so much better, although in better than todays defense it has sold well over 50,000 which is great for a #32 peak, in my arms made the top 10 and has only sold about 15,000 more than it.

Im not overly worried though about the album performance, at the end of the day it went number 1 and is roughly on platnum sales,i know its not fantastic but its not a mega flop either plus all the lovers was a big hit in this era aswell. We have seen kylie bounce back before on numerous occasions and she will do again, higher has even seen her make a top 10 return. Kylie will come back stronger with the next album and i know she has a few big hits left in her yet.

I agree that it's refreshing to see her speak honestly about the singles failings, but hang on - isn't she the one who flubbed a golden PR opportunity and told the X-Factor audience that Better Than Today wasn't available yet, when it was? It seems she had her own 1989 moment.

That said, I doubt it would've made a huge difference. BTT is a shocking third single. Should've been Cupid Boy or a remix of Aphrodite. Can you feel me on your stereo - what a brilliant hook.

I disagree that the landscape is swamped with urban music. Kylie's brand of pop is bang on for 2011, especially here in the US. Her PR need to get her on the Bravo network. She's a perfect fit. They have so many shows that she could be doing PR on.

Also, she was meant to perform Get Outta My Way on X-Factor instead of BTT.

The x factor performance to be fair added sales to better than today but more importantly bumped the album right back into the top 40, so i agree even though it was the only slot available she would have been crazy not to have done it.
well, i love the album and love the singles All the Lovers and Get Outta My Way, i wouldn't have released Better than Today as a single, but it has definetly grown on me since the release. its a shame Cupid Boy or Aphrodite wasn't released, they're my two favourite songs on the album. the album took off so well, i don't see why it seemed to flop most recently

i agree, after her flops from the late 1990's/'indie kylie', she bounced back with a number one single and a number two album, and after beating cancer, she recieved a number four album and single, so her next album will probably do well. nobody can say the aphrodite era was a flop though: all the lovers is her second best selling single of the 21st centuary, and aphrodite reached number one and is on the edge of reaching platinum.

at least this era had some success in the US, as the album reached number 19 and the singles reached number one on the US dance chart

hopefully the tour will boost some sales :)

I would agree with all the above and aphrodite under performed rather than flopped, for me though aphrodite will always be a memorable era as i like the album but all the lovers is just divine and is very very high on my list of fave kylie singles ever,

I really think that from now on, with singles that are released after the album they will be fanbase buys that don't peak all that high and drop down fast. That's the way it used to be from the third single onwards for her, but now I think this is the way it's gonna be and of course it's hard to maintain long term album sales if this happens...

Ya i see what you are saying but at the same time 2 strong singles been released before the album or for better wording the album been launced on the 2nd single rather than the first might drive first week sales higher, the chart run of the album might be shorter long terms but it may sustain good sales depending on the 3rd or possibly 4th single choices. I think with the main bulk of artists the days of releasing 4 singles from the original studio albums are over, its 3 singles at max now for alot of artists, the singles after that come from deluxe versions, i know there have been exceptions to the rules on that point but in general especially for established artists 3 singles at max is the new formula as such.
