Should be 16th of June, not February, I think? B-)

I'm not responsible for that one but I'll change it. All corrections are always welcome :D

I'm not surprised that there were no chart doubles in 1998,1999 and 2000, considering the high turnover at the top of the singles chart
  • 1 year later...
Rihanna scored her first chart double with Good Girl Gone Bad and Umbrella on 16/06/2007 which means she actually scored a chart double 3 times, not 2

Edited by Hadji

Hadji - Thanks for spotting that I'd missed out Rihanna's 1st, (of 3), 'Double Top' Feats. The one from June 2007.

I knew that she'd done it 3 times, but I missed it out, when I compiled the List of Acts who've achieved it more than once.

I've now added her 2007 'Double Top' to my Post that has that List in it.

  • 3 months later...

More chart doubles need to be added to the list:

31/01/2015 Mark Ronson - Uptown Special // Uptown Funk

21/03/2015 Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour // Lay Me Down

  • 4 years later...

@@@ = The Official Charts Company do not credit Cliff Richard and The Shadows,

Hit Singles & Albums, to both Cliff and The Shadows. They only get credited

to Cliff Richard. If they were also credited to The Shadows, then they would

have managed the ‘Double Top’ on 7 occasions, for 13 Weeks. Their 7 ‘Runs’

would put them in 2 place – with Elvis Presley. But, his 22 ‘Double Top’ Weeks,

would easily beat their 13 ‘Double Top’ Weeks…

  • 4 weeks later...

The OCC count Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta, as having the 'Double Top', for 6 Weeks, in 1978. That is with 'Summer Nights' and 'Grease'. If we

count that, we may as well also count 6th May 1978, when the Bee Gees were No.1 with 'Night Fever', at the same time as 'Saturday Night Fever'.

&&& = As with ‘Grease’, it is up to you if you count this as a ‘Double Top’, for the Bee Gees. The ‘Saturday Night Fever’

Soundtrack has 17 Tracks, The Bee Gees wrote 8 of them and Sang 6 of them. In the UK, it is regarded as a Film

Soundtrack, by Various Artists and its 18 No.1 Weeks are not credited to the Bee Gees. In the USA, ‘Billboard’ count

it as a Bee Gees Album and they credit them with its 24 No.1 Weeks, in 1978. ‘Billboard’ also credit Whitney Houston,

with the 20 No.1 Weeks, from ‘The Bodyguard’ Soundtrack, (1992/1993), even though she only performs 6 of the 13

Tracks. In the UK, that Soundtrack Album, had to go into the Compilation Chart, as it is seen as a Film Soundtrack, by

Various Artists, here. It had 11 No.1 Weeks, in that Chart. In the Main Chart, it would have been No.1 for about 9 Weeks.

@@@ = Again, it is up to your discretion, whether you regard this as a ‘Double Top’ for John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

There are 24 Tracks on the ‘Grease’ Soundtrack Album, but John & Olivia only Sang 5 Tracks each! Olivia Sang on ‘Summer Nights’,

‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’, ‘Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee (Reprise)’, ‘You’re The One That I Want’ and ‘We Go Together’. John Sang

on ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Greased Lightnin’, ‘Sandy’, ‘You’re The One That I Want’, and 'We Go Together’. So, they each, were not on 19

of the 24 'Grease' Tracks – at all.

NOTE = Madonna did not Sing on all of the Tracks on the ‘Evita’ Soundtrack, (1996), but it is still counted as being one of her 12 UK No.1

Albums. The 'Evita' Soundtrack has 31 Tracks and Madonna Sang on over 20 of them…

The OCC love their inconsistencies

It is arguable that The Bodyguard should count as a Whitney Houston album. After all, it is likely that her fanbase made up a large proportion of buyers. OTOH, many people buying Saturday Night Fever were probably not long-standing Bee Gees fans and, similarly, buyers of Grease probably didn't own a lot it Olivia Newton-John's back catalogue.

The OCC don't regard this as the 3rd Lady GaGa 'Double Top':

01/11/2018 (1) Lady GaGa (& Bradley Cooper) - Shallow // A Star Is Born (Motion Picture Cast Album)

They see the Album as just a Soundtrack and don't credit it to Lady GaGa. (Or to Bradley Cooper).

Lady GaGa has vocals on 27 of the 34 Tracks.

Yet, The OCC do count the 'Grease' Soundtrack as being by Olivia-Newton-John and John Travolta, even though they each

only perform on 5 of its 24 Tracks!

If The OCC count John & Olivia + 'Grease' as a 'Double Top', then they may as well count the Bee Gees + 'Saturday Night Fever'

as a 'Double Top'. The Bee Gees performed 6 of the 17 Tracks on 'Saturday Night Fever', and wrote 8 of them. The Bee Gees and

John & Olivia would be back to back 'Double Top's in 1978:

06/05/1978 (1) Bee Gees – Saturday Night Fever (Soundtrack) // Night Fever

07/10/1978 (6) John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John - Grease (Soundtrack) // Summer Nights

Yes, Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper are not credited on the Cover of the 'A Star Is Born' Soundtrack, but John & Olivia are not credited on

the Cover of the 'Grease' Soundtrack, and The OCC regard it as their Album. I think that The OCC are doing Lady GaGa a disservice.

The Bee Gees are not credited on the Cover of 'Saturday Night Fever'. Nor is Madonna, named/credited on the Cover of 'Evita', but The

OCC count it towards her 12 UK No.1 Albums...

The OCC once posted an article what said Gaga and Bradley did the chart double I’m sure of it yet it was never credited to them in terms of the albums chart.

The singles from it what charted were though. I wonder if the dialogues were removed if they’d still count. It’s not like a TGS like soundtrack because it’s not different people.

Meh anyways they’re responsible for the success of the album even if in the UK it doesn’t count as a #1 album x

I've checked if The OCC ever credited 'Shallow' and 'A Star Is Born' as a 3rd UK 'Double Top' for Lady GaGa.

They did. On Sunday 28th October 2018, they did an Article announcing Lady GaGa's 3rd Double Top - and Bradley Cooper's 1st.

It was written by Justin Myers. He left The OCC last December.

Now, The OCC is only crediting the Single to Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper, and not the Album.

So, they now give her 2 UK 'Double Top's - not 3.

Here is the Article:

I would guess that's because the album is no longer appearing in the album chart at all, as they quietly changed their rules so it goes to the compilation chart instead. (Though that doesn't explain why they still acknowledge John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John).
