I suppose there's always that to consider as well .

Gosh, this is their first single since 2003 that doesn't use sampling, and people STILL complain?!

Justin Bieber songs aren't really very catchy though, imo. I love One Time (it's VERY catchy too), but the rest are a bit meh tbh.

Catchy songs are ones like Black and Yellow, Rolling in the Deep, C'mon, etc.

Yes, I have. But the Ireland chart isn't the UK.

It may have got more airplay over there. I'm just saying, I don't think it will get top ten here.

I think it might do kind of well over here, she's been on a couple of shows performing it, Dancing On Ice, Loose women etc it won't last long in the charts but it could get a decent debut, top 10 at least, top 5 maybe but I won't hold my breath

No one really cares about sampling unless it's a major sample (like TT(DB)). What exactly did Boom Boom Pow sample?

I'm not sure what's wrong with your ears if you find RITD catchy and Baby not. Catchy is not a positive adjective, it just means it has a hook which sticks in your mind which can easily be a bad thing such as in the case of Baby. As much as I hate it I can't help but get it stuck in my head for hours every time I hear it which only prolongs my suffering.

I find the melody of "Baby" catchy and the chorus not. In "Rolling in the Deep", I find the back up singers catchy.

Boom Boom Pow sampled some percussion patterns from Planet Rock (which is a BRILLIANT song btw) apparently:

And some people also say the song copied this song called Boom Dynamite (another brilliant song!). They do sound VERY, VERY similar, but the Black Eyed Peas would have said if they sampled it, as they usually do.

How on earth is a song being catchy a bad thing!? :o That's just ridiculous. Baby is not remotely catchy to me. That's why I don't like it. There are lots of songs which aren't catchy that I like (such as I Need a Doctor, Champion, etc.), but I like them for different reasons, such as the raps.

Rolling in the Deep most certainly is catchy. That doesn't mean it's a bad song. That means it's a good song! The chorus is insanely catchy, especially the background vocals. Don't have a clue what they're saying, but it's something I hum to myself for hours.

If being catchy was a bad thing, then Grenade would be one of the best songs of all time.

rolling in the deep and gredade leave the top 10 for the first time since mid january!! :o

Yeah! :drama:

I think we could see Rolling in the Deep get back in the top 10 though. I think the song that's currently #10 could fall out the top 10 soon, so whatever is #11 would end up in the top 10. Plus I think Adele is appearing on some high profile TV show soon, so all her songs should rise a bit, especially the song she actually performs.

I think she'll perform Someone Like You, but I think it would be really awesome if she performed Set Fire to the Rain. Imagine her having 3 different songs in the top 10! :o She'll probably perform Someone Like You. Not that it needs much more promoting though. It'll sell a million anyway.

sales must eb pretty low this week apart from the no1/2....but the albums will be decent with all the new entries...why have album sales been so good in 2011>??the last 2 years have been terrible, big albums have struggled to get over 60k sales apart from during the oct-dec time!!

I haven't really been following album sales that much, but I don't think they have been that good apart from Adele.

A few albums last year did manage over 60,000 pre-October time though. Boyzone, Oasis and Eminem all managed over 100,000 in 2010, and Lily Allen, U2, Eminem, Michael Jackson and Muse all managed it in 2009.

I know a few of them have explanations for their high sales, like the situations with Boyzone and Michael Jackson, and Eminem being Eminem, but it still happened a few times, and probably at not too different a frequency to this year (excluding Adele).

the whole top 5 has been doing over 45-50k most weeks, pretty decent for jan/feb/march time com pared to recent years, the fact that rem is only no5 in the mids points to sales being decent again although rem might be selling poorly?!

50,000 does seem very high for a #5. I remember lots of albums getting to #1 on sales of like 40,000 last year. I don't know really. Perhaps they are increasing, although I would've expected them to keep decreasing year-on-year tbh.

What's that song at #98? Your Favourite Martian by Club Villain or whatever?!

It's true that UK and Ireland's charts are usually fairly similar, so it suggests it'll do well here, but it still doesn't guarantee it.

Don't forget Jedward are huge there!

On the other hand, loving to see Teenage Dirtbag now at #22.

No, "Club Villain" by Your Favourite Martian. It's by the same guy who does =3 and the music video of the song has had lots of hits on youtube.

Also, Tiesto is at 92 with "Zero 76", haven't heard this but it could be his next single (probs not cos it doesn't feature some rapper)

And a reminder that Round 4 - 1993 is on NOW. Don't forget to vote for your favourite number one singles from that year. The year includes songs by Take That, Culture Beat, DJ Jazzy Jeff, 2 Unlimited, Ace Of Base and Mr Blobby. Deadline is Monday morning

Surely it is their 'fault' - they write tham that way... :P

Influenza is catchy too - and less painful than listening to the brat's songs... ;)

Singles sales at the upper end of the chart may be below normal, but the influx of 59p songs will raise the bar significantly at the lower end.

Last time, it raised sales of the #200 by 20%!
